  1. just go look at the stats of diesal trucks. 300hp 600tq haha. My old hot rod on a 150shot made 562tq and 418 at wheel hp. The tq is what won my races. We just picked up a v8 denali envoy and we really like it 20mpg highway and 16 in town so far. And it has 320tq i belive. but it has the 5.3 with the cylinder shut off. If at a constant speed it will shot off half and run off 4 unless it needs to get up a hill or something. Good idea but its gunna be a pain down the road when it starts missing.
  2. I'm glad i read before i got mine. I hope you get it sorted out. My first cast ended up in 7 bucks worth of braided line cut off haha. I started with zero brakes set the spool tension then set the brake to ten. After a month now i normally leave it on 4 or 5. Simply because i get tired of casting. Ive made some nasty ones but i really enjoy using them. I use two hands to cast, i cant use one or my accuracy is little to none. I need to start trying more stuff so i can get to where the fish are. I just prefer fighting a fish with one vs a spinner kinda hard to explain. When i got used to casting mine it took me a few trips to get the feel of a fish hitting it. Now i feel that i dont miss near as many as my spinning set up.
  3. I talked with the owner today and he priced the 1648 at 1500 and trailers from 600-1000. We dont have any big lakes around unless i want to go 2 hours travel time. My local 12-15acre ponds are within 20 min. I highly even doubt ill use the livewell but it would be nice to have just in case. I dont mind gravity feeding it and my home aquarium travel battery air pumps to keep em alive for long periods of time. Id like to add some stuff but for now buying new im just going to have to suffer with bare bones. I just want off the freaking dock haha.
  4. only thing i found is a 95 alumicraft 1648 with a 94 shoreliner trailer. for 1,500. If its the one i looked at today it looked new to me. But not sure i just stoped by and they where not open.
  5. order some bait from ***(sp) so you can win a sontest to boot . The little suckers at the local pond here will hit anything and i mean anything. so i cant help you much.
  6. gotta love learning something. I too just used this for the first time last night as well after reading it on here. It was my fault just had my line in set the rod down and one had take it in.
  7. unfortenly there is no tracker dealers in my area. I just need something simple. I want to be farther and cast to shore. Not cast farther out from shore haha. I just want to be able to go where the fish go really. simple boat. decent depth finder and the wind or should i say small breeze in my face with the trolling motor.
  8. Went out and looked at one at the local dealer today. He was closed so i couldnt get a price. Does anyone own one of these? If you do what are your feelings about it? How well does the small livewell work? Also should i get the 14-16 foot. both are 48 inches wide? I'm looking at the 1448 or the 1648's. I want nice stablility and was thinking of mating it with a minkota endurance dont know what type was hoping for a little guidence there as well. Dont know much about boats. Ive been looking used but have found nothing i have liked.
  9. where i actully travel to fish i try and be there by 7 am. I'd like to get there about 5-5:30 but i always stay up to late the night before.
  10. congrats on the big un. Ill never get to catch anything that big unless i go back to texas. Iowa sucks. My phone has a camera and i love it. It takes amazing pictures. Every picture i have put on here was taken with it.
  11. sweet fish and i enjoy the deluxe fishing seat you have going on there in the last pic haha.
  12. Went to the golf coarse pond and nothin was biting on worms. THe bluegill where hitting the top like mad. Bunches of knats swarming and hitting the water. I caught them a blue gill and gave them a hook and they had the bobber. Put the blue gill on it for them told them where to throw it and wait. This is what they pulled in.
  13. For me just getting into this i had a hard time as well. What i ended up with was a lighting rod 6' mh with a pflueger supreme spinning reel. I can throw just about anything. A bonus with the extra spool ill spool it with a different type of line say for small catfish. Then i buaght my first baitcaster the rod sucks ugly stick light. For what i need unless im going after biiig fish ill be fine with these two. I'm a bank fisher as well and ive just got a car i want to upgrade to 6'6 rods.
  14. I agree. They keep changing the keeper size. before they drianed it. anything over 13 you could keep. Just a month ago i was there and the keep size was 21. Now its down to 18. I havnt had a chance to talk to the warden there yet. But id like to so i can get some more info on the structure that they put in it. Hope to take a little john boat out on it and jig some of the structures. Its deepest point is 18 feet with the majority being 8-15.
  15. that would be some blood. He nailed it so i did the bill dance hookset got him perty good but he was ok. all fish caught lived to be caught another day.
  16. They drained it two years ago and restocked. Went out at 7 am till noon. caught a total of 23 fish 20 of them where 15-17 inches, one was a solid 20 inches and a couple 13's. All off the same dock. just kept working it like a fan in your house haha. One side for a bit then move over a little and so on. Two worms all day berkly powerworm, and gulp 5 swimming minnow in watermellon. Ill get the pics off the phone here in a bit. I love my new baitcater first one ive ever owned. Just makes me feel more part of the game (aka more solid and in tune with whats goin on under the water.) Had a few crouds watchin me pull em in left and right. I of course let the kids see the fish before putting it back in the water. 8-)
  17. Ive been fishing nothing but texas rigged berkly powerworms in two colors but 99% of the time just pumpkin seed. I have yet to get skunked and my avarage is 6-7 decent fish every outing. been like this for the past month haha.
  18. Where im at in iowa its became my 2nd home. Just a few blocks from the house. They let you fish it but you have to stay in certain areas. They have it marked with paint. We have been tearing them up since we know where they stay when its warm out. I wish I lived by a lake haha. Only problem is it gets fished alot. But i pull 13-16 inch lmb out of it all day long untill the sun starts to set. They have two ponds but i stick to the smaller one since i can fish it almost all the way around. The bigger pond you only get a corner.
  19. Maybe im holding it wrong or something. Im used to my spinning outfit and so far im just learning using fake worms. With my spinner ive got constant tension on my line with it and i can twitch it and get good action. With the new baitcaster im holding it in my palm with my pinky and ring finger around the rod. SHould my whole hand be palming the reel? The castability is awsome, the accuracy is awsome. I've only messed with it in the backyard last night and took it fishing tonight. I've got the spool set perty tight and the brakes on 5 and i can consistantly out cast my pflueger supreme spinner by 15 feet or so. Ive got 20# stren superbraid on it right now. SHould i change anything?
  20. Well some have read about a month ago i picked a a plfueger supreme spinning with a 6' mh lighting rod. I really like it but i have always wanted to learn to use a baitcaster. I was up in minnesota for a wedding so i swung by cabella's and picked up the daiwa exceller some 20# stren superbraid and a cheap uglystick light. They didnt have the lighting rod in the action i wanted. Got it strung up made some backyard cast. all is fine for now with the brake on full and decent tension on the spool. I turned the brakes off just to see. Bad idea haha. The funny point to this whole post is the soon to be wife was asking how much it was so i rattled off the reel and the string and didnt know how much the rod was. Grab'd my recipt out of my wallet and they didnt charge me for the rod haha. I'm a good guy if i was still in town not 6 hours away i would have went back and made it right. Maybe cabella will get a little more of my business to make my karma right. I didnt even notice when he was ringing me up because we had been chatting it up about iowa. Gunna do some searches for baitcast basics but if you guys wanna post something up id be greatfull.
  21. I freaking love it. Dont gotta worry about lossing a 6-20 buck crankbait. can go just about anywhere. can tell what the bottom is kinda like by watching the line feel of rod. And fish bite it.
  22. I've noticed you guys talking about diff style baits. Ive got my favorites too. But man Ive never fished with a texas rigged worm and if some of you guys saw my other post it produced well for me. went out again tonight and was just testing some line i baught. kept my 4inch powerworm pumpkin seed on and jeeze almost every cast i was drilling them. small frys but its a small pond at the golf coarse. I had the soon to be wife fishing the same spot with my fav crank baits and she never got a bite in the two hours we had been fishing. For a shore line fisher i think i feel like ive found gold haha.
  23. I do saltwater reef tanks and compared to something like this it is easy as pie. Depending on the size of the tank is where to start. You do not want to stress the fish by giving it too small of a home. I had one in a 125 gallon for a while. He was 7-8 inches. Only had him for a couple months i just wanted to make sure the tank would hold water. Filtration has to be top notch. For water circulation i prefer powerheads Over just canister filters. Bass eat alot and crap alot so your tank clean up can be a pain but water quality doenst have to be the best. Substrate can be sand or small rocks Give them a place to hide so they dont get stressed as much. If you have a place to catch feeder minnows and or tadpoles its not so bad. Switch it up dont just feed them one thing. Like us everything needs a variety of diff things for a proper diet. If you want to keep it simple two of the biggest filters you can find and maybe a powerhead pointed at the surface.
  24. Oh i have heard of the dreaded baitmonkey. I just dont know how to have good success with crankbaits yet. The most ive had it at a shallow golf course pond. Ive got the basics shallow runner, couple rattle traps. sexy shad. deep runner. repella originals two sizes. I just always get caught on stuff with them and loose them. spinners i have good luck with but i always catch everything. catfish, bluegill and bass. With the worm nothing but bass . But i have gave the baitmonkey prob 100-150 this month. then another 150 on new reel and rod.
