  1. I agree with ej 100% on the EVA vs Cork question. His answer is spot on, enough to warrant a "sticky" on the subject. For me, spiral wrapping micro guides, always, result in "less" guides being used, when compared to a rod with traditional guides/placement. I dislike a simple spiral, so I save a single guide in the transition of the line to the bottom of the blank. I've also used micro guides on rod actions from light to heavy, with no negative impact on performance. Albeit slower action rods require a lot more test casting than say a m/h stick. I typically prefer cork/burl, but for me EVA is much easier to shape and work with and the weight difference is negligible.
  2. That's awful nice of Blaine.. to let you reel in his 5lb fish. Great guy he is...
  3. I guess this was the reason for the mix-up. Apparently, A.J., myself, and two other people in a boat did not hear this announcement of the time change. I don't have a clue when he made this announcement but apparently he did at some point. Whatever, no big deal, we're thirteen points out of the lead with eight tournaments to go until the championship. Plenty of time to make up ground. Atta boy, just show up next tournament and take the money. I'll be at the next one, so I'm not letting mine go as easy. If anyone wants to follow the drama.. http://www.logancountybassinboys.com/ Shows some info, although most isn't current.
  4. Dude don't quit, that's very likely giving in to what they want. My last soccer games is next week, and I'm back for the rest of the year. I'm going to call around and see what the deal is. At the very least, if they failed to notify you, I think you should have your entry fees returned. It isn't much, but its the principle of the matter. **Edit - I just spoke to three of the guys who fished, and they said it was announced to the group before launch. None of them said they wanted you guys DQ'ed, but I don't know why they didn't come forward and make a case. Bad juju for sure...
  5. Very nice, that's typically the setup I shoot for as I dislike fore grips and I don't care for epoxy ramps. Very cool...
  6. That's a real nice fish man, great pics! and LOL at tin
  7. Check out the XP3 line at www.swamplandtackle.com I typically use an RX7 or XP3 for the bulk of my builds, and I don't have anything negative to say about either of them although I tend to prefer the XP3. As flechero stated, check out RBO, its loaded with experienced information your simply not going to find anywhere else.
  8. Truer words have never been spoken, lol Don't forget the certified Missouri scales I know its tough for most to believe, but some people couldn't care less of fish mounts and/or pretty certificates. I have no idea if the fish is a legit 18lber, but I'm pretty positive Otis made one helluva sandwich....
  9. That's freakin awesome, you guys keep on putting it on'em. Congrats!
  10. 1) AJ Fernett 2) Blaine Cook 3) GMAN
  11. Well if it doesn't rain while your in WV, I'll p!$$ on you...
  12. Arguing the semantics of steroid use at the pro level, is an exercise in futility. When big money is involved, they're all gonna try their best to gain that competitive edge. The facts around the obtained "edge" can be picked to pieces. I'm starting to loathe all the "big time" sports.
  13. I'd much prefer two fist fulls of sugar, goes down faster....
  14. I've used that exact blank in two builds. I think its a killer rod for the money. VERY nice wraps and kudos on the micros. Beautiful stick!
  15. Heres the deal. Im the best there is. I mean, i wake up in the morning and i spit excellence. Nobody can hang with my stuff. Im just a big, hairy, American winning machine. If you aint first, your last. lol ;D Rofl, your such a complete tool... lol
  16. Nice job guys.. I just wish soccer season was over.
  17. I bet theres some screwier places up some of them hollers. BTW, ever been to Jolo? A friend and I have been thinking about going out there to attend a church service. Trust me... we have a some real morons, in abundance. The Whites are the cream of the crop, I've yet to encounter anyone/anything that's even relatively close. Even the crew at Jolo...
  18. I love the batson's, but I do prefer fuji tops. I've used the batson 3mm on all of my builds since last fall and I have zero complaints.
  19. I can't help but giggle like a little girl. Now that's what I call a smallmouth... great fish!
  20. That's simply how its done! Your wraps, finish, handle, etc... all look great! Beautiful rod and great reel selection! 8-)
  21. I was telling my buddy this story during the sutton tournament. I swear I haven't laughed so hard in quite a while. You really did have to be there, twas classic....
  22. That's great and I pretty much agree. I don't think I stated I could achieve an increase in casting distance. I do however fully disagree that spiral wrappings only contribution is stability. What I can do, is decrease the number of guides used to make the transition, thus decreasing the amount of friction made in the abrupt move to 180 degrees. In my short building experience, I get a smoother casting, smoother reeling, lighter, and more sensitive rod. Stability is just a "perk" for me.
  23. I actually stay away from the simple spiral and use a modified spiral that I've picked up from rodbuilding.org. I set my first guide in/around 90 degrees, adjustment occurs so the line never makes contact with the blank(under load). My second guide transitions the line to my first 180 degree guide, which is typically a 3mm micro ran to tip. I allow the line to lay against the blank, and I mark the natural progression of the line through the 180 degree transition. I find this method works much better than the "simple spiral", when it comes to casting/lure type presentations.
  24. Rage chunks are my go to jig trailers. I simply love them.....
