  1. Thanks for your comments everyone! That wasn't his biggest bass - 2nd biggest. His biggest was 19.5" long. The hook incident was pretty brutal ;D ... I didn't let it ruin my day though. Best of all, it freaked the kid out a little I think he has a new respect for fish hooks now which is a very good thing!
  2. The kid always gets a nice one evry time we go out! Today we hit our local lake and the water was very high. The word on the lake was noone was catchin' nothin'! 20 minutes in my son catches a nice 18" largemouth on a watermelon, wacky rigged senko. I, on the other hand, caught nothing... unless you count burying a treble hook into my finger! It took 20 minutes of yanking, pushing and cutting to get it out... quite unpleasant :'( ;D ;D ;
  3. I read in Clark's that there are tournaments in the Connecticut river every weekend in the summer. I have a summer in camp in Warren, NH which is pretty close to the Connecticut river in Haverhill, NH... which is where the tournaments are I think. I was wondering if anyone has participated in these tournaments? I think it would be great to enter tournaments with my son and we are at camp every weekend all summer so I was hoping you guys might have some info on this???
  4. Thanks for the reply. Do you use your boat primarily for Bass fishing or does it serve as a multi purpose boat for you?
  5. I looked at several boats today. I really like my boat but I think I'd eventually like something bigger (mine is a 15 footer). I went to a Tracker dealer and they had a lot in stock. I looked at an Avalanche, Nitro Z6, Pro Team 175 TXW, Pro Team 190 TX and a Tournament V-18 All Fish Coastal Edition. The Avalanch was so nice! But... probably more boat than I need. I also loved the 190 TX, it was really big... lots of room to fish and great storage. I'm asking about the V-18 all fish because it seems better than a "bass boat" for fishing 3 guys... and I do that a lot. Plus, the coastal version has vinyl instead of carpet. We mostly fish for Bass but I like to splash in the salt now and then and go for Stripers and this boat seems like the ticket. I'm not ready to buy yet but I would really like to hear from anyone who owns this boat. I'd also like to hear opinions from anyone who'd like to share Here's the boat: CLICKETY thanks Jay
  6. Interesting thread! I must ask though: where do you folks live that you're able to stroll out onto a golf course and start fishing? I've never tried it but I know for sure I'd either get tossed by management or chased away by some golf club wielding madmen ;D
  7. Nice! Any pics without the cover?
  8. This is the place that has a new one... give them a call: http://www.dovermarine.com/
  9. Great post George! You've posted some really nice pics of big Bass and happy looking kids! Pretty much all of my time on the water is spent with at least one of my kids. My son is always with me and when I can, I get my daughter to come along as well.

Thank you all for the kind words! I can't wait to get the kids out fishing again.
  11. fishhard, First and foremost, thank you for your service. I wish you a safe and happy return to fishing!
  12. They did stop making them (shame) but I know where there's a brandy new one... I was considering buying it. I don't know if it's cool to mention dealers here... PM me if you'd like.
  13. That is awesome! Great fish! My 6 year old son outfishes me every time and I love it. He recently caught a 19.5" largemouth and he was in his glory.
  14. I wish I had some digital pics of my first boat. I bought it in 1994 and it was a 1979 Galaxy 20' cuddy with a Mercruiser 240 170hp I/O. I kept it in a slip 9 miles from the ocean and used to go out once or twice a week. That was my 1st saltwater fishing experience. I sold the boat a year later after I bought my first house and didn't get another until last year!

Thank you both very much for the kind words! For the record, the guy in the pic is my Father in-law... I have a similar shirt though . I'm the ugly guy in this pic... and this was my biggest fish the day the kid caught the 3 pounder ;D : I think I need a fishing hat ;D
  17. Hello everyone, Since I've been here I've really enjoyed the fishing pics and stories posted by members. I was on vacation last week and we did a lot of fishing. My son is 6 and he's becoming quite the fishing fanatic. We've been fishing this lake for 2 years and have never caught a Bass bigger than 12 - 13"... my son got a nice 16 incher! We took the girls out one day. My daughter: We tried a new lake this day and were only able to fish for a couple hours. I caught a few small ones then my boy got this nice 19.5", 3lb Bass - he was VERY happy my boat:
  18. I think mine does OK That sounds like a nice set up! Do you have any pics?
  19. If I'm looking to catch pickeral, I'll definitely throw a daredevil.
  20. Wow! Very cool. My 1st fish on a fly was a small rainbow trout... still a thrill though. I haven't done it in a few years but I used to have a blast flyfishing for Bass with little poppers. I'll have to get back to that...
  21. I'd like to know the answer to this as well!
  22. Thanks for the replies! I've been looking at bass boats all week... since I've decided that my son and I will really focus on freshwater bass fishing, (I originally bought my boat to chase stripers) I've been thinking about getting a specific bass boat. All the bass boats I've checked out have been really nice - and I've looked at everything from Trackers to Skeeters - but, for some reason they just don't push my buttons. When I see a nice, deep v aluminum boat or a nice fiberglass center console, it gets my blood pumping..... that's just what I like. I'm fishing out of a Key West 15' center console right now and although it doesn't even compare to a nice bass boat, it's a killer flats boat for going after stripers now and then. I've decided to keep it... which was a hard decision since my Yamaha outboard has been putting me through H E double hockey sticks all season! And it only has 40 hours on it!!!! I'll get it ironed out... the sucka is about brand new. One "bass boat" feature that I really like is a fish finder at the bow. That's what I'm talkin' 'bout! Keep the comments coming! Jay
  23. Did you end up finding any bass ponds/lakes? Piermont is maybe 30 minutes from lincoln and there you will find Lake Tarleton. They have a nice boat launch and the place is loaded with bass. It's not uncommon for me to go out and catch 20 fish in a couple hours. The problem is, maybe 2 of those fish will be 1.5-2 pounds... the rest are pretty small. I've convinced myself that there are big fish in there, I just have to find them I've caught a few really nice trout there as well.
  24. Thank you all for the replies. What I really meant in my question was what makes an actual bass boat what it is. I imagine it is possible to fish for and to catch bass in most any boat but only certain boats are actually called "bass boats". What are those features that make them unique and why are those features so great for bass fishing? I just thought this would make an intersesting discussion.

That lake looks nice! I only live about 45 minutes from there and I've never fished it. I fish a lake in NH called Lake Talreton and I have the most luck in the hot weather using a 4" finesse worm with a chartreuse straight tail. They don't make them anymore > My brother has a huge supply and he has me on rations :-/ he's like a drug dealer LOL.
