  1. Got to go to Atlanta (actually Alpharetta, GA) next week and Newtown, PA the week after for work. Always seems prime fishing time I end up being more than a hundred miles from anywhere I know to fish. Hopefully, I do not get any additional travel orders after that. Last year I was off the water Sept, Oct, and November because I was stuck in Columbia, SC. Anyone living/fishing in those areas that wants some company shoot me a PM.
  2. My wife is a stay at home mom too. I have to say though I feel EXTREMELY fortunate that we could make the economics work to do that. I know a few families who would love to do this but they simply cannot afford it. It is tough. I think my kids are better for it it. That being said I was raised in a split home, mom and dad both worked, grew up in daycares, but my parents made the absolute most of the time with me. it is funny cause though the majority of my time was in daycares, the majority of my memories of that period of life are the times with my parents.
  3. Man...thank God your kids are alright. I would have been arrested, cause I would have rendered both of then unconscious. There is no reason anyone should be picking up another persons child like that.
  4. Thats does work but like the flamethrower against laws in the city I just remember my first run in with those things was a fam party, had a beer in my hand, stopped to talk to someone and stopped right on a mound which had been knocked down shortly before I came in so they were all out swarming around. I could not believe how much that hurt. If I could kill every fireant in the state of NC, that still would not be enough.
  5. That there is one big honking rainbow. Man...that had ot be fun to catch.
  6. Heard these on the radio. Almost spit coffee on my windshield. http://www.scotts.com/smg/learn/video/videoPage.jsp?detailId=14000048&subNavId=&navId=page900216&title=-relatedArticle.title&parentId=100006 http://www.scotts.com/smg/learn/video/videoPage.jsp?detailId=14000020&subNavId=&navId=page900216&title=-relatedArticle.title&parentId=100006 classic...
  7. Dan I do not think so. I have talked with my grandfather at length about this type of stuff. If you look at the reporting, they do not catch that many but when they do, it hits the papers 6 minutes after the cuffs are on. Geraldo is on their parents doorstep 35 minutes later and we heard about it for the next 40 days every 25 minutes. In the old days they just did not report it past maybe the local level. The teacher would be sacked, go to jail, and the entire nation did not hear about it. In the old days, it was easier to become a teacher. There were not phsyc evals, electronic criminal records, adn the strict educational requirements we have today. That being said teaching is a field that will always attract those types (which IMO are a very small minority), it puts them in close contact with kids on a daily basis. The only hope we have is that they will be quickly caught and harshly punished.
  8. I am with ya there Rolo. I will sometimes keep one or two for a good meal. However, trophies, never.
  9. I would consider myself a very impatient man. That being said, at the ramp, as long as the person keeping me waiting is really trying to be considerate I will cut them slack. What gets me is the guy who is just flat out inconsiderate. The guy who washes his boat ON the ramp. The 2 kids with the jet skiis who actually launched their 2 jet skis them left their daddies lexus SUV right there. I mean at the ramp with the trailer in the water. Now, that being said, I totally understand why tourney guys are less patient. If I was forking over money and competing, I would be quick. I do need me a partner who can drive but my 7 yr old and my grandfather just can't do it. LOL. I undo all straps except the bow in the lot and get the line set up and as much as I can before the water. I actually learned most of that on here. Ramp etiquette is one of those things, you really need to share with folks.
  10. That is nice...if I could trust others that way around my launch, man that would definitely work. There is no way folks around my area would do that though.
  11. Sounds like you just burned yourself out. One reason I have been hesitant to go the club and tourny route is just that. To me, working in IT, always surrounded by tech, people, always deadlines, nothing relaxes me more than taking a full day off in the middle of the week (especially fall or spring), getting out on the lake from dawn to dusk by myself (or with my oldest daughter or grandfather). It is simple, it is relaxing, there is no rush, no drama, no deadline, just me, the lake, and hopefully decent fish. Knowing my personality, if I did it too much or did the whole tourney club, etc thing, I may get to the point where it goes from a release to a stressor. Good to see ya back here though.
  12. Something I remember from HS in '93 in relation to scenario 2. 2 kids fighting, 1 is whooped pretty good. Instead of handshake victor, pile drives beaten kid onto marble floor in freedom shrine. Kid spends 3 weeks in intensive care, other one goes to jail. (actually seen this) and to add to Scenario 3, 1959 ...father paddles Jeffrey when he gets home. Jeffrey REALLY never does it again.
  13. Awesome. There is one near me just across the SC border whose sign is: "FIREWORKS, BEER, BAIT, and BOOTS"
  14. I am curious guys, given these 2 scenarios alone or 1+ partners what is your average Launch/Retrieve time? Mine. Launch. From the second I am backwards on the ramp to the second I push off the dock - (includes jogging from truck back to dock to leave) Alone 5-7 minutes, Partner 4-6 minutes Retrieve: Once again second I tied to the dock to pulling out to trash cans to reattach straps, etc Alone 5-7 minutes Partner 2-4 minutes
  15. Alright, this is the last one I am putting up here about this. I just could not resist. He spends about 30 minutes to launch, then hits the dock.
  16. you mean people like this:

Really man, I would go less formal. First thing, you need to relax. This is your bro. You have known him a long while, you have had good times, bad times. When you do the speech, talk to him and his new bride. Ignore the crowd and talk to them like you would any other day. Important points.... 1. You have known your brother a long time 2. he is marrying a wonderful woman who will make him a better man (keeps you invited to their house for dinners) 3. more than anything you wish them a long and happy life together. Anything else, is just filler, LOL.
  18. LOL. That does look tasty. I grew up in Buffalo, NY and I find everytime I visit, you don't go the the museums, the sites, etc. It is the food. The wings, the pizza, Buffalo style beer battered fish fry, Mighty Taco, and SUBS ooooh some of those subs. Good thing I moved. I would weight 400 lbs by now if I didn't.
  19. I almost ran one over with my boat once....does that count? LOL. There are dudes I see doing this in Wylie, from the surface the water looks like it is just muddy as can be...I cannot believe they can see far enough to shoot anything.

LOL Thanks! needed a chuckle today.
  21. Looks like most of the topo maps I have seen of Wylie. Almost all of them are based on really old data. Wylie has changed a lot since the data was taken. It is a cool site though, nice to have so many layers at your fingertips.
  22. yeah it is a broad brush but IMO it is an inevitable result of not requiring licenses for driving a boat AND a total lack of funds to enforce the rules of the road on the lakes and rivers of this nation. It is only human as I go down Wylie from end to end, I may pass a hundred boats without issue, it is the one nimrod who over takes me on an intercept course and nearly crushes my boat because he does not know who has the right of way...
  23. Well maybe you need to start your own site then. LOL
  24. Totally forgot about Point break. That was an awesome movie. I liked this dude a lot. No cancer is remotely anywhere near pleasant, but Pancreas is one of those that really scare me. Not much that can be done at all, with it. Even with all his wealth he could not stop it. RIP Patrick...
