Looking for Advice on Painting Aluminum Boat ???
LOL, be careful with that. I spent a good chunk of last Summer painting, decking, pulling 40 ft of wiring and riveting my 1436 after seeing his stuff. Came out great but man...what a project. LBH's projects are a high standard to aim for.

What should I do about a trolling motor?
Save and buy new man. You can easily get up to half the price in parts when all is said and done and then you get a used TM that may still have other issues. I would say keep saving, and get it eventually. The wait for the new one will be nothing compared to spending money on a crap motor that gives you more grief than helps ya.

jon boat restore complete_pics
Good job, I loathed stripped and painting on my old jon. But once done, it looked sweet, I like your color a lot better though.

Wierd Anglers
I agree People are funny but also some of them do wierd stuff because 1. Ignorance, 2. economics. My first rod/reel combo I put together was a nice spinning reel on a baitcaster rod. yeah that was real comfortable to use. But I used it for a while because if I went out and grabbed a new one, I would get shot by my wife, and 2 I have never forgotten who that felt so i will not make that mistake again. And baitcasters, do NOT go there. I do not own one, probably never will. It would just play out like a greek tragedy if I did. First time i went deep sea fishing, well I had never used one, ever. Everyone else had. So when we stopped, and he said drop the line, I did and as soon as i stopped it, I had a rats nest the size of Texas. Made the first mate REAL happy, but he taught me how ot use it and I was good. Though if you offer assistance and have it thrown on your face, heck, I would sit back and chuckle at the fella myself.

How do you kill a catfish?
LOL, I once caught one, took it home hit it for 5 minutes over and over with a framing hammer square in the head, it still kept moving. That's what will live after a nuclear apocalypse, catfish and cockroaches take over the earth.

Looking for Advice on Painting Aluminum Boat ???
Hey man, any similar questions I have seen asked on here folks will say, strip it, prime it, then repaint. I did with my old jon, the paint cost a fortune but I went with a guy who makes the paint for cars, boats, etc and really got some good paint.

Anyone have suggestions for boat covers?
I got the Walmart "delux" cover for mine. Then used a 4x4 and rounded off the top for a stand to keep it up. I them went out and bought 2 cheapo tarps from Home Depot. When the boat is going to be covered for a few days or if I know a good storm is coming, I bungee the tarps over the covered boat. The tarps take the sun damage and any damage from debris in the storm, then keep 99% of the water off the cover. The stand keeps the tarp tight, the bungees let me keep tightening the cover and the tarps as they stretch out. With the bungees I can uncover and cover it up quickly or undo a couple to get under the cover when I need to. The tarps are cheap so i can replace those as they wear cheaply, and the cover still looks brand new.

how do u tell your friend...
LOL true! I assumed it was his boat. But yeah if it is your friends boat, yeah you are stuck.
-
how do u tell your friend...
That's how I would say it, but spoken with the right tone of voice. OR just keep casting towards the front. Cast right next to where his lure lands. When he gets mad then tell him his positioning skills suck. yeah the tone is everything. Now I am extremely sarcastic and my friends are too. We can talk to each other that way but like the one poster said, if I ***** threw him to the back and took over, I had better do REAL good or they would have a field day with me. LOL
-
how do u tell your friend...
Well, you could try this..."Hey...no offense but you suck up there, get on back here and let a real man work those controls." LOL. I cannot figure out why I have no friends, just the voices in my head. Seriously though, the thing i like about men compared to women, we can talk normal to each other. Just tell him, to try out the back, tell him to let you try the front and really see how it works out. Like how you stick with a new bait for a while to learn it and get good at it, tell him to sit back there, relax and fish that way for a while. Personally, I always run mine, but I REALLY enjoy being out with my bud on his boat and letting him worry about it.

Blackberry
i got a BB, i will say the keyboard and mouse is easier to use ergonomically than my Q moto was. That being said, the Windows mobile (thought it would go insane from time to time), was much better for business. It did not require extra $$ for a BB service plan, and it seamlessly integrated with our exchange server without any special config or services. And while it is much more stable, BB has its own quirks. Also the browser in the Windows mobile worked better on sites than the BB browser. For any smart phone though, without the data plan, there ain't much reason to get it. If you cannot afford or do not want to pay for the data plan, get a non smart phone with other cool features. IMO, the data plan really is what you need to fully leverage the advantages of a smart phone.

What to do when the lake is flooded
Did you try fishing on 20? News showed some large ones swimming across there on Monday. LOL. Seriously though, be it trout, or Bass I have never had much luck after a flood like that. My grandfather thinks it is because a lot of food gets flushed into the water and they pig out for a few days.

I always wanted to live on a lake, just not like this
I am in Atlanta on business this week. It was nuts, I was driving in from CLT about 4 am and got to go through those storms. Did any of you guys see the news coverage where there were fish swimming across one of the interstates?

Which road to take?
I do technology consulting and i can tell you it is really fun. You get to see all different companies and how they do things. Just do not think it is easy. You will frequently come into a business and give them solid guidance to have it thrown in your face for insane reasoning (like running 45,000 customer users and their confidential data on a single server, externally exposed without any encryption, antivirus, firewall, etc). If you are going to do consulting work, pick up power point skills, and take as many presenting/speaking courses as you can. IF your school offers, DO AN INTERNSHIP. If they don't then DO AN INTERNSHIP on your own. I never really got rock solid that this was what I wanted to do until I got a paid internship with a company near my home and really got to see what I was in for. Not only that but I cannot tell you how many kids I interview out of college who I cannot hire because they have no experience. An internship will get you that experience. I do not care how good your college is, a classroom setting does not give you anything near practical experience in your field. An internship will also help you identify unforeseen skills you can take classes on. An example for me was public speaking. Never took a class, I mean why would a computer science major need them? In my internship I did small presentations to managers, and learned right off, I needed to learn power point (without a pretty slide many managers are lost), and get good at speaking to groups. Also, do not think of not doing something because it seems too hard. If you want it, buckle down and do it. The difference between those who inevitably succeed and those who fail is determination. Those who do succeed will fail repeatedly in their quest but they get up and get going. A solid passion for your career makes it worth while.

The do's and donts of boat launching
You sure you were not listening to me and my daughter on a bad day? LOL. Seriously, I can feel ya man. While I am no saint, I never got the whole stomping on the wife thing. Also, that is a brave man there. I believe if I screamed at my wife like that, I would get to watch my boat, trailer, and truck fly by me into the lake. My wife's a lady no doubt but she ain't about to ever put up with something like that. My fav will always be "plug guy". Watched him launch on the niagara river. before he went in I saw his plug was missing. I kept trying to tell him, he kept interrupting me "Son...I know how to launch my boat." (I was 14 at the time and hanging at the launch). So I finally shut up and let him go. When he came flying back in about 3 minutes later, I told him (as my friend laughed their tails off) "You forgot to put in the plug."

I am a Married man now
Congrats man!! I love hearing the little disasters at weddings (not the serious ones). No wedding goes smoothly and it is the little things like the ones you mentioned that give a unique character to a wedding. And of course show you what types of friends and family you got as they step up to help you out on your special day. Wish you and your new bride all the happiness in the world.

Your Jobs... what are they?

Off the water for the month :(
Well it can definitely be worse. Most of Atlanta is underwater or under flood watch. This place is insane today.

Possibly an attempted abduction
yeah I can understand that and please do not think I am double guessing or criticizing his reaction. Really you do not know what will happen until you experience it. I just know based on my nature, when it comes to threats to my wife/kids, my tendency would not be any form of rational thought, it would instead be violent reaction to a perceived threat to the kids. Hopefully I never have to find out

Need help identifying a fish I caught
First man, to help folks here, where you fishing when you caught it? Geographically speaking, that limits down the list of possibilities. Next, see if you can find a listing of indigenous fish in your area and then hit their pics one by one. I had the same thing happen when I caught a yellow perch here. I had to get a listing of al native fish then specifically googled photos of them 1 by 1 until I found it.
