Tony, that really was not a shot at you or anyone specifically on this board. Call it one of my sore spots at having moded boards before. Plenty of folks on all board will scream that. If you are moderating other folks it is fine, but when it comes to their posts you are wrong, or holding some grudge against them. Like you said, it is childish, and 99.999999% of the time totally garbage.

Well and really, let's assume it is the case. So what? This is not a paid service, it is free for us but not to Glenn. Glenn pays the bills, Glenn can do whatever he wants and if we don't like it, well... Truthfully though, i think the guys do a great job monitoring and running this site. Having moded a couple boards myself over the years, it is never easy, you never can make everyone happy. However, this is one of the first places I have been where I have not run into someone calling someone else Hitler or comparing them to Nazis or collapsing into political or religious screaming. It is a pleasant, almost always very family friendly site and you learn some great stuff about fishing...win/win

Messin' with the newbie
LOL. That there is awesome!! One other newbie thing we did when I made the jump to IT. We installed a program on some machines in the office. One dude in particular who LOVED to come into the IT room and bug us to no end. We would send random popups that looked like windows messages like "Windows has detected excessive dust in printer cartridge, please clean." and "Foreign Object detected in CD drive. This error is frequently caused by dust or insects." We had him cleaning all our printers, screaming about cockroaches in his desktop... The best was the time we sent him a message.."Windows and Microsoft office have analyzed outlook usage patterns and detected you are a pr***. Please go <expletive>". He called our netadmin to his office and showed him, the admin just looked at his screen, straight faced goes "yeah, mine tells me that all the time." and walked out back into our room and fell on the floor laughing. The guy spent days trying to find out how to reset that setting in outlook so it would not think he was a pr****. Can't do it anymore but I did enjoy those days. Some of these are awesome guys.

Trout season is already here. I have not gotten a chance to hit the streams since May and it is killing me. What else kills me. I am really good at finding the fish. When I get out there with someone else, they frequently catch more than me. So if I could only get as good at catching them as finding them, I will be set. LOL.

Bass size?
Nice fish. I would guess 3-ish. Definitely look at a small scale. I got one and the first thing I learned from it, I was absolutely horrible and sight judging a fishes weight. I would be WAY off every single time. I have gotten better with the scale teaching me but I had to laugh when I got it. cause I would pull a fish up (especially a LMB) and thanks to the fight it gave me, i would estimate its weight out and be completely off. Ditto on the rod. I am in the process of specing out a new combo to put together. I have to keep to a modest budget but rods in particular, I am bein gpicky about.

Boating Etiquette?
Good point Al. While Wylie does not have much in that sense to worry about, when I used to live in WNY, we went out on Erie, Ontario, and the Niagara River a lot. If you do not understand nav buoys you get in trouble there QUICK. Especially near the peace bridge right where Erie dumps into the Niagara. It gets downright deadly quick there.

Jon boat?
If all else fails, talk to a dealer, or look in your manual and find out what weight it should take. Also, how far a tow you considering to the ramp? I used to have a 1436 w/ 9 hp OB, TM, and decked it. Towed it with my truck or Dodge grand Caravan (minivan). On the trailer it was light enough, I could have hooked up a harness and launched it myself without a car.

Why didn't my fishing go better today?
I feel for ya. Can't tell you how many times I have been in the perfect cove on the perfect day, throwing the perfect bait, the perfect way and caught nothing. What I am slowly learning to do, change it up on the bait (which you did), but force yourself to leave the perfect spot sooner and move on to less perfect spots. On days like you are describing, I catch more fish in absolutely horrible spots on ridiculous baits than anywhere else. I was reading an article on a dude who won a tourney on my home lake (Wylie). He crushed everyone on a day where nobody was catching anything. His response to how he did it, he did the exact opposite of what he was "supposed" to do. Everyone was shallow, he went deep. I cannot remember the bait he switched to but it made no sense for the conditions. Once he did it though, he started crushing them.

BR Video in action
So I was out the other day, hitting my usual spots, getting very little luck and remembered from the video interview on here about "fishing the moment". I decided to stop hitting these same spots and went to places that have not been producing for me and even changed up my rig a bit. Within 10 minutes I had a 3# and 5# on the deck and started hitting smaller ones like crazy. Spent the rest of the day hitting them and actually going into tough to hit coves that I had never been in. Couple things I did. I have had a new boat since Aug and I have been babying the heck out of it. I have refrained from going into some areas for fear of bumping a log or something. After watching him on that video, I decided to chill the heck out. Went into shallower water and more debris clogged water than I usually go and started picking up fish big time. I went slow mind you, but going in these spaces was HUGE. Next, I completely switched my rigs up. This was a no brainer which is why it took me so long to do it. I went from spinners (which work good in a lot of places but not where i was). To some of my rarely used plastics. I did something a bit different (for me), in I used split shot sinkers which i attached much higher than I would normally do it. They pulled the bait down but gave it enough play to really let it work some magic. Anyway, it turned what would have likely been a bad day into a pretty productive one. Gave me some good fish, including the biggest I have pulled onto this new boat. One thing I was still amazed, I hit a dink cove. Every fish I pulled out of it was 6" or less. These things were pounding plastic worms that were almost longer than they were. LMB always crack me up with stuff like that, those fish are so aggressive.

Messin' with the newbie
I was chatting with someone the other day on some of the jobs I had. One of the best was at a hole in the ground restaurant on the Niagara River. We LOVED pulling stuff on the newbies. One dude, was the absolute best. We had a main building and an old house out back (about 100+ yrs old). We were messing with him and sent him to the building for left handed spoons. He was gone for about an hour. Come back, covered, I mean covered head to toe in dirt, spider webs, and all manners of filth. Tells us, he went in the basement and could not find the spoons down there just normal ones. Problem is, the building did not have a basement. He had found an old, nailed down trap door that went to an area that 100 yrs ago they used for coal to heat the old house. We did not even know it was there. Laughed to death. He lasted 4 wonderful months and bugged him everyday. His other highlights, he somehow (would LOVE to know how) managed to open a pressurized cylinder with loganberry syrup for the drinks. Took him 4 hours to clean up that mess. We had a lighthouse on top of the building. It was for show, there was no way up there. We told him we needed it cleaned, he managed to get up there somehow, found the bees nest up there. And he set his hat on fire, crawling under the charcoal grill looking for a way to unplug it at the end of the day. He was a fun dude, just gullible. Anyone else have fun time with the newbie at work?

Taylor Swift or KVD?
Is there a husband of the year award im not aware of? lol . Man what did you do so wrong, to write something like that. lol j/k LOL. If there is, I certainly would not get it. My wife is just fun as heck. I can guarantee you we'd have a ball. Probably even get her to do a little bit of fishing wherever we went to, or at least I would fish and she would sun herself on the boat, or in a chair nearby.

Taylor Swift or KVD?
Kanye might show up. ;D He'd have to get past the dog and if that did not work, I'd give Taylor the keys to the gun safe. She's a southern girl, she has to know how to shoot. Unlike California, NC is a bit less restrictive on the use of fire arms. We're not Texas but we aim to be someday.

Taylor Swift or KVD?
Now...if I could get Taylor Swift to watch my kids, then take my wife on the trip, that would change my answer.

Taylor Swift or KVD?
I think she is attractive, however, another thing you have to consider to if you are not married, he is not talking about a night with her. he is talking about a long trip. Which means, you will have to spend time conversing, finding common ground, etc. I just cannot see me having a lot to talk about with a 19 yr old girl. As a father of 4 daughters I would also consider what I was doing an affront and disrespectful to her father (me being 35 and all). So in the end I would be stuck on a trip, without any fishing, or any real conversation, she would be miserable too. The whole time I would be thinking, "man...I could have been fishing."

Rams drop Rush
You gotta know guys, IF Rush were to get a "voice" in the NFL as a team owner (even a minority owner), his background makes him dangerous. By that, First off, I mean he has a mouth like TO has shown in the past. He does not tow the line and would be extremely likely to talk out openly against the NFL leadership if he did not agree with them. Secondly, considering that, he has a nationally broadcast show that he could (and maybe would) use to inflict a lot of damage to the leagues rep. Now if the league thought they could control him, they would jump in the chance cause that same show could promote the NFL big time. But we all know there ain't no way they could control him.
-
Taylor Swift or KVD?
LOL, I think I would take the fishing. I would have more fun, have more in common with the person I was with. Plus, I would not have to come home pack my things and only get to see my kids on the weekends.

Boating Etiquette?
Truthfully, they will not learn the rules until they make them mandatory. I took the CG course when I was a kid and has periodically hit their site to refresh. Following them most times is an exercise in futility. If I remember most of the rules (such as when approaching head on), have both boats or the one yielding to starboard. Last time I tried to stick to that the OTHER guy kept going port until I about ran into a dock. One thing though, if they want to make the course mandatory they have to make it easier to find everywhere. I have been trying to find the course in the Charlotte area to take a refresher for 5 months. Contacted the Swift water power squadron locally and nobody can tell me where or if they will offer another course.

Patching aluminum
I bought the HTS-1000 on the recommendation of a member here. It took practice to get decent at it. Couple things, I started practicing on aluminum cans and while it worked, it was much different than the gauge of aluminum in the hull. If you can find a scrap piece to play with that is roughly the same thickness. You need to heat the aluminum good (but not too good) or the stuff will not even bond to the hull. Found a couple good youtube vids on Aluminum brazing that helped get me started, after that it was trial and error screwing up my scraps. Once I got it though, it was a great hold and patch job. It was next to impossible to find a welder here that would work with aluminum that thin so I had no choice.

Dink Whisperer?
That and how set they are on getting on here. All they have to is go to some place with free Wifi and the IP would change

decking my boat
Good point on the 3/4". I tried 1/2" on my first deck, even with a ton of support it still would sink a bit when I stepped on it (@195 lbs). 3/4" did not move.

Boating Etiquette?
Personally, i would go ahead of them, at a safe distance. If for any other reason, because it would keep me away from their rigs and make sure I was not going to cut any of their lines. I used to troll through Erie with my father and I remember the cost of some of that equipment. Sometimes it is dragging farther behind that you would think. You won't make everyone happy, but you are at leats trying to take them into consideration.

decking my boat
Personally I would always go aluminum. I did it with my jon a while back, came out great, had awesome strength. If you are going to add that weight with the fiberglass on the deck, I would doubly recommend the lighter aluminum frame.

Rams drop Rush
I only wish the NBA were so tough about it. In Charlotte they have the BET network owner running our NBA. At first I thought, well he is a shrewd business man building that network up like that. Maybe he will do good. Then he marketed the team and the "show" (music, cheerleaders, etc) around gangsta rap and garbage like that. Keep in mind Charlotte is a white collar banking town and the part of the population that would be interested in such things could not afford to buy the high priced boxes and such. Been an absolute catastrophe. Rush probably would have drawn too much of the wrong type of attention. I mean everytime he would go on a show and say something unpopular their would be groups calling for a boycott of the Rams or the NFL altogether. They just do not need that mess.

Rams drop Rush
That's a good point. I have been thinking, like the man or not, WHY should he not be able to buy a team? I mean if he has the money. Course with the mouth, the press on the NFL would not be great. Be the same thing if Al Sharpton or Michael Moore tried to buy a team, drama drama drama.
