Prohibitive favorites hurting participation?
...and to your earlier points about being accused of cheating. Nobody likes a winner. I do not care what sport it is. On the occasion I have been on top notch teams in some sport, being accused of cheating comes with the win. Fishing though, IMO, like any other sport has definite home field advantage. You can fish the Wylie and do good when you are visiting. There are a lot of good spots. I know of a few holes I have found over the last year or 2, that I have never seen anyone on and when the fishing is bad, it is at least decent in those spots. Even with that good knowledge of the local lake, if you got a good fisherman, he will adapt, he will find the bait/color/retrieve that works and pull them in. Personally, i would go to the Non-pro/guide/etc tourney to start out with, so I could get the feel of tourney fishing, and maybe stand a shot at placing. It's like bowling, you got serious money leagues where guys go to win cash and you see the best of the best there. You got other leagues that run the gamut. Good question though. As for grammar, I am no English major, and I make plenty of mistakes but man, you got to at least attempt to use it. Communication is a crucial skill in life, best to work on it someplace like BR when the worst you get is razzed a bit by other posters then when you go into a situation when it determines a job, or something like that. Just my .02...tight lines fellas

Circuit Breaker?
They do not know about these or do not care about damage. It is not one of those things that happens everyday. You can run a TM for a long time and never have the breaker tripped. You can also live in your house for years and never trip a breaker (in 10 years our main has gone once.). However the time it does go, it will save you its value 10 times over. You really need one. Yes there are a lot of folks who do not use one, and yes they can get away with it for a while. Sooner or later though, it will come back to bite you. I can tell you my new boat came with a TM on it and it has a breaker.

Ditto man, get yourself a good life jacket and keep it on, find one that is comfortable and won't kill ya in the summertime. I got a Cabella's fishing life vest, I keep a set of pliers and a little hook remover attached to it. It has made it so important to my actual fishing that I would not forget it even if I wanted to. That action alone helped my wife feel more at ease with my solo fishing trips.

Julies Cove delivers again
So after getting spanked most of the summer. conditions have set up on Wylie that are really awesome for afternoon and evening fishing. We have had a couple very overcast days, lows in the 60's at night. Was out last night at a cove I call Julie's cove, and first thing I see is a ton of shad schooling all over the cove. Then i start seeing LMB shooting straight through them. Just about anything I threw into that mess of fish got hit. After a slow summer, this was absolutely sweet. Add to that a cool clear night, full moon, and a slight cool breeze, I did not want to go home.

jon boat
I am with ya Daniel. Personally, I love Aluminum. But after a windy day out on the lake, I can understand why others don't. Mine has excellent stability for me (coming from a 1436 jon before this boat just about anything is). I do not have to worry about gel coat, I learned how to braze aluminum so when I got a crack or hole I fixed it myself . On a full size Bass boat I also hear from glass guys they get a better ride out of them. I loved my jon, got a lot of good fishing hours out of her.

How Ticked off do you get?
I will not throw the F-bomb out there, I fish with kids too much to allow myself to get into that habit. I do get ticked though, particularly when it is a moment of sheer stupidity (on my part) that causes the fish to get lost. I could max out the text in this thread giving examples of those...LOL

Aluminum are lighter so it is easier to transport but with the light weight comes issues with being blown around by wind. Aluminums tend to be cheaper. Aluminums do not have a gel coat to damage so you can beach them and beat up the hulls a bit. Aluminums, if you can afford it go with a welded hull not riveted, rivets will likely leak sooner or later. Pay attention to transom strength, thickness of hull. structural support, etc.

Big Dilemma...
For those of you in dissension with the course they took, please explain this to me. Personal sponsors are person, no disagreement there. However, if you have someone who is a member (not any authority), even of a small club, making decisions and claiming to represent the entire organization in dealings with a 3rd party, how is that kosher? I may not be understanding the way things work for a Bass club, that is extremely possible, hence the question. I also think a big thing here is, he did it the first time, they approached him and said that is not how they want things done and don't do it again and he ignored them. Seems to me the first time he was contacted about it, he had 2 choices, say "my mistake." (after all, as stated the rules of the club did not explicitly restrict this type of thing), and not do it again, or decide the club is not the type he wants to be a member of and leave. From the way i read all this, he went for option 3 ignore them completely and do what he wants. Either way, I would look at revising your charter though to explicitly lay out rules for such things.

Facebook junky?
I got an account. I have fam and friends in the NE, SW, and SE so it is a good way to chat, post pics of the kiddies and such. I do chat with some old friends on there but not much. BR is actually the only online addiction I have to worry about.

Darn near killed someone Monday....
LOL. Man well at least I spelled everything right. Was so focused on not using the other word which could replace "darn" I just ran into that. You know, I was so aggravated i did not even think to see if they were in trouble. They were fishing though, both of them were sitting on either end of the boat with lines in the water and they were maybe 1/4 mile from the launch. I had thought about talking to them but then figured, I would just get in a screaming match, and I did not want to start the day on that note. I do see it frequently on Wylie, and it is loaded with debris after a good rain. Once saw what looked like a 8"x8"x20' beam floating with <1 inch of it above water. No way I would see it at night. I do not know of any spotlight out there that would give me enough visibility to run full out (about 40 mph on my boat) at night. 1/2 throttle is about it for me and only on night where i got a full moon or some other weather condition that gives me decent visibility though items like the beam above or some of the other items listed in that previous post I would not see or avoid either so it is a risk no doubt. Even with those guys being dumb, I am not sure if I would ever be able to go back out on the water if I were to run into them and kill someone. i just could not live with myself. That more than anything is what gets me mad about it. I am usually a pretty safe boater. I always have a vest and have my cut-off attached (though I have pulled it accidentally more than once). At night I have at a minimum the nav and anchor lights on while running and I will use my solar LED lantern to light my deck pretty brightly while sitting still.

Its amazing sometimes
What is up with Fox today or news orgs in general. There was this one, then the one where some marketing guys edited a colored dude out of an ad. Besides getting people ticked off and raving mad what can this story or the other one do for society?

Sad day
Politics aside, for a man who had seen his share of family tragedy during his lifetime, I hope Mr. Kennedy has found peace and resides with those members of his family that went before him.

New Boat question Charging system?????
Good job. Gald you figured it out. I think the dealers excuse is lame. I mean they are selling the boat. They should know how it works what is in it. I mean what it the guy accidentally wired the cord to the hull? Who do you think the lawyer will go after? A on-board charging system is a pretty big component of a boat. it is like them telling you..well yeah it has a motor but we don't know how to use it. not that it would do any good but I would have a chat with the owner there and respectfully let him know what was going on and how dangerous it is (particularly were liability is concerned) for them to sell a product they know nothing about.

Trolling motor fuse mounting
When I had one on my jon I actually riveted it just inside the battery box. kept out of the weather and very close to the battery.

Darn near killed someone Monday....
I was a good deal past them before I really got a sense of how close that really was. And now I do not have a spot yet. That episode has brought that hole in my arsenal to my attention. We had one on my father boat growing up and while it helped spot debris in the water, it was not great for boat traffic. Truthfully, moonlight lights the water up better for that than a spotlight. Course not much of that that I can recall monday. It is one of the reasons I run slower at night. With the visibility I do have, I figured that was about the distance I can see and safely react. I was right, but it was way too close for my comfort. I remember growing up in Buffalo how many horrendous accidents there were on Erie and in the Niagara in similar situations. They never did turn on any lights. You'd think they would have after i can that close. They were just sitting there fishing.

Darn near killed someone Monday....
So I took the day off got out on the lake before dawn. Looking forward to a long full day of fishing. So I am motoring out to my spot, it is pretty dark so I was only going about half throttle. When I spot something in the water dead ahead, I had to cut right real hard to miss it. Was an 18 ft Deep V with 2 guys fishing. Out in the middle of the channel not a single light on the entire boat. Do people not think!? Had I been full throttle, or not seen them for a couple seconds longer, I would have ran right over them! They are lucky too. On any given day in the morning there are a dozen or so boats out there usually full throttle in the dark. It is not the first time I have seen that but the closest call I had. I can honestly say, there is not a single night I have fished without a light on the boat. At an absolutely minimum I have a VERY bright LED lantern on. Usually, I will keep the anchor light on.

snakehead drama
That's what i figured. I would think if they attacked folks on a regular basis, there would be a larger push to get rid of them. I had googled it but found a mix of stuff figured I would rather hear it from our folks on here. At least I know the folks on here are gonna be non-dramatic about it. I hear they are awesome to eat.

How many states and or countries have you fished?
North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, and Ontario Canada.

Got any treasure? Here is some of mine...
Absolutely awesome stuff to have! Probably tough looking at pics with him. My gramps left me a mess of stuff from WWII. Think of him everytime I look at them.

Almost caught'em, wish i did....... and they better hope i dont see them in the future!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Totally sucks man. be glad you didn't catch 'em. One of the may have pulled a gun and cost you a lot more. Whether you or them, someone's gonna die once the gun comes out. There is a fella in his 70's in the Charlotte area recently, had his home robbed in a home invasion. He managed to get free, they ran out, he grabbed his gun chased them down and shot a 15 yr old (who was one of the robbers) to death. Things can get really bad really quick.
