2013 Bassmaster Classic Cliff Pace What Do You Think?
"If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; . . . If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same . . . Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it." -- (Joseph) Rudyard Kipling

Bringing A New Battery To Max Capacity (Charge)
Autozone should be able to do the test. If not, Interstate battery stores will do the load test at no charge. Check with them to be sure, but the Interstate stores around here will test batteries of all types for free.

Who Have You Met?
I guess I'm also a member of the old farts club. I don't understand the celebrity thing either. You say hi, shake their hand, and maybe have a bit of a conversation. By the next day, if not sooner, they won't even remember meeting you. I remember most if not all of the folks I've met at the road trips. I suspect most of them remember me too, though not necessarily for good reasons. I'm not sure if I should be insulted because I'm not on Long Mike's list, though we have met, and the first thing he did at Pickwick was to take me on a guided tour of his Fort Knox security system on his aluminum baby.

Lake Champlain Vacation
If you do hire a guide, go with them as early as possible in your trip. You will not only learn some places, but you will also learn about what baits and techniques are working. You can put what you learn to good use for the rest of your trip.

Need Help With My Boat, My First One....... Fuel Advice
If you cannot be sure that the fuel was treated, drain the tank. I'd recommend using some type of fuel stabilizer every time you add fuel. It's cheap insurance and will help reduce the damage caused by ethanol. You might want to consider changing the fuel lines. The new fuels are tough on the fuel lines. I'd change them all. It could cost as much to have a shop check them out as it does to change them, if you do the work yourself. Fuel lines that are deteriorating can clog a fuel filter quickly. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself, find a reputable outboard tech, and have them do it. It can prevent all sorts of headaches on the water, not to mention ruining a day's fishing.

2013 Roadtrip! You're Invited!
Make that 55 days until I'm on the water at Pickwick. If I'm going to make a 2400 mile plus, round trip, towing a boat, I'm going to fish as many days as possible. The round trip travel is a fixed expense whether I fish five days or ten days. Better to "amortize" that cost of 800 dollars for fuel over ten days rather than over five days.

2013 Roadtrip! You're Invited!
There was a big pro tournament the last time we fished Pickwick, and there was no problem. No one holds "reservations" on any part of the water for fishing. It's like any other day on the water, first come, first served on the fishing grounds. I do recommend giving the pros who are fishing an area a wide berth out of courtesy. Having said that, if I'm catching fish in an area and a pro comes along, I ain't budging an inch.

Southern Blizzard Warning!
You forgot the eggs. Drifts of 1 to 1.25 inches could clog highways for days. Snow fighting equipment is being sent from Florida by FEMA. Drivers are advised to carry a salt shaker in their cars in case they get stuck on a snowflake.

Aluminum Vs Fiberglass And A Few Other Questions
Back to the topic of this thread. The answer varies greatly. It depends on what type of fishing you are going to do, and where you plan to fish. A jon boat is heaven for some, a canoe is ideal for others. The options are endless because we humans are so different from each other. I wouldn't presume to tell you what is best for you, but my advice would be to look at several types and sizes of boats, and ride in as many as possible. Then, you will have a good idea of what boat is best for you.

Aluminum Vs Fiberglass And A Few Other Questions
Careful young whippersnapper, or maybe grasshopper. I may outlast you. It was just three years ago I bought my first bass boat, a brandie new 2009 leftover Nitro Z-7. Two years later I traded it for a Z-8.=, which I suspect may last my lifetime. Then again..........................?????? By the way Mr. ZP, if you show up at Pickwick, your bass is grass, or something like that.

Navionics Hotmaps Question
I'd have to purchase an Iphone, or some other smart phone. I don't see that happening. But for those techies who have them, if you fish, the Navplanner2 application is a must have.

2013 Road Trip - Just A Reminder
56 days from now I'll be on my way to Pickwick. 57 days from now I'll be pulling fish out of Pickwick. Gonna mix it up this year. Each year it's been something different. The first year at Pickwick it was the shakey head that did the most damage for me. The following year at KY it was the drop shot and last year at Guntersville it was the wacky worm. I'll still be using those, but plan to use jigs, spinnerbaits, grubs and menaces just to keep things interesting. Eagerly anticipating seeing old and new friends. Be there, or be square. No excuses.

Navionics Hotmaps Question
It's been three years since I needed tech support, and I'm away from home without access to my paperwork, so I was just winging it. I knew there was some "partnership", for lack of a better word, and that Fugawi had some part in the programming. Anyway, I have chips for the north and south areas of the U.S. and the Navplanner2 installed on my computer. One of the best things for the money any sweetwater fisherman could have.

Navionics Hotmaps Question
I've called Navionics tech support a couple of times, and they resolved my issues quickly and courteously. Their programming is done by Fugawi, which is not a Japanese name, but most appropriate for navigation software. The Navionics company headquarters is a half hour from my home. It's located in Wareham, MA. However tech support is in Canada. One of my fellow lobstermen in Westport had a boat named Fagawi. It is only a variation in the spelling, but means the same thing.

On The Water Snacks?
It varies. Plenty of beverages, water, soda, fruit juice, etc. Usually have a supply of cheese or peanut butter crackers, and a sandwich or two. No preferences other than something simple, that's not messy to eat Usually bring some fruit. That's about it.

Wheres The Contest/giveaway Section?
The valuable information gleaned from, and available on this site is worth more than a sticker or the chance to get a few bucks worth of "free" gear. Should I mention the Road Trip, and the opportunity to enjoy the great fishing and cameraderie that it provides. Heck, you may even get some free gear and stickers when you attend.

What's a honeymoon? It's the period of time following a wedding, 'til the excitement wears off. I know what a honeymoon is, when it starts, but I don't know when it ends.
