  1. My drag never changes. Set it where I feel comfortable and fish it. If it takes line out so what I makes the fight better. If it isn't pulling drag I just reel it in. I usually keep it set to where it takes a 3-4lb fish to get drag off. Any smaller than that and I'm not worried about my 14lb line snapping. And if its bigger it'll pull line off and I'm still not worried.
  2. This is the fun part of fishing this bait for me at least. When they hit it I wait. Sometimes a good 3 seconds. When you feel them hit watch your line...reel in the slack til you feel them and set the hook. I haven't had a fish spit the bait out yet. I actually waited once to see how long she would hold on and I counted to ten before it drove me crazy. Thats with no scent. Just be patient. Dont jerk on the initial strike of the bait. Let them get it in their mouth because they may have just grabbed the tail end and haven't gulped it down yet.
  3. Buzzbait in early morn and evening, Big arse Colorado bladed spinnerbait, red eye shad, and cranks for the daytime.
  4. I bank fish at a local marina/hotel area here in Okla and surprisingly I've never gotten run off and most of the time people come down and see what I'm catching and how I'm doing. My top 3 bass ever have come fishing on or by that marina. I mean we fish the slips and underneath seadoo floats and everything. But we never leave trash and always respect the land as it is semi-private land.
  5. I practice catch and release with snakes too. ;D ;D ;D I remember the cutest thing I've ever seen was at my uncles lake house. My cousin and sister were trying to kill a snake that was swimming by. I don't really like to kill things for no reason so I told them to stop so I could catch it. I got a stick over his head and grabbed him behind the head and on his body. I walked up to the house to show everyone and my 3yo niece came walking out with a cupcake in her hands. When she saw the snake move she screamed bloody murder and smashed the cupcake in her hands. LOL I laughed so hard. I then released it in a nearby feild and reminded everyone that snakes kill mice and other rodents that are bothersome to peoples lakeside properties.
  6. Buzzbaits for sure, topwater frogs, pumpkinseed lizards, I just fell in love with hollow body swimbaits also. You can't really go wrong no matter what you choose as each bait has its own application.
  7. H2O are the shizzle if you have an Academy nearby. Cheap, nice, and have good action. Plus Academy is always expanding their product line.
  8. Extreme rods and reels are the best bang for your bucks IMO. On the reels you can pick them up on sale for $60 and they have an aluminum one piece frame, 7 double shielded ss ball bearings, and have all the gear ratios and features you could ever need. The rods are 70million modulous? graphite blanks and have great sensitivity.
  9. I use H2O hollow body soft swimbaits. They are the cheapest and are pretty durable. They have a pretty hard nose and I use the screw in hooks. Haven't had any issues this far with the nose getting torn up. I can catch over 10 fish per bait on them.
  10. I was fishing pretty clear water with them. I had a male strike it first and then I had the female launch from about 12ft away from it and clobber it. It was the coolest thing I've seen while fishing. I was fishing a sandy area of the pond first and it was about a foot and a half of water. After cathing and releasing them I move to another bankline that was about 4-6ft of water and caught 3 on 3 casts. I was using the 4 inch bait since it was a pond and I was fishing for numbers not size. I actually had an 8 inch bass get the whole bait in its mouth!
  11. I used some hollow body swimbaits for the first time yesterday and killed them on a local pond. I love the action and so do the bass. The best part was I got them from Academy for about $4.40 for 4 5" baits Academy brand. The 4" ones are about $4.20. I don't think I'll buy the more expensive brands.
  12. Thats the one right there! I love this bag!
  13. The best bag I've seen or used is the Okeechobee bag. I have 8 370 size boxes and 2 360 size boxes in it and can probably fit 2 more 360's or one more 370 in it. Has big side pockets and a sunglasses pocket and a front pocket that's really well organized. Best part is it only costs $50 and comes with 8 pretty decent 370 size boxes. Best $50 I've spent on anything fishing related. :)
  14. I have an Academy 5 minutes away, another 15 away, and BPS 15 minutes away. I'm lucky because I have at least 5 good lakes within an hour drive from my house and tons of local ponds and resivours closer. Academy is missing out on a ton of business tho by not having online ordering for you guys not lucky enough to have one nearby. The recently expanded their products too by adding lipless cranks, topwater frogs, and a wider selection of cranks and colors.
  15. You can fish this lure effectively year round just change your technique up to match conditions. In late fall, winter, and early spring fish it more like a jerkbait. Late spring, summer, and early fall vary your retrieves to see what the bass want. I've just started using them this year and had success with a jerky retrieve when water temps were still 45 deg.
  16. Shad Raps are the s*#@. You can jerk them, slow roll them, or burn them. Pretty versatile and has a pretty good action.
  17. After you add the 1/8th oz weight worm and hook you'll be at or over the 1/4oz mark. If you buy a decent reel you shouldn't have any issues. I've even fished a weightless trickworm texas rigged with minimal problems casting.

  19. Just wondering what the diffrence and applications are for regular football shakey heads and spot removers. I have both so I guess I need to know to properly utilize them. Thx in advance.
  20. I just can't wait until I can afford my own boat. I have 3 friends who's idea of prefishing is going to the lake and fishing for a day. No map study, no utilizing electronics to locate structure, no checking water levels, no matching the hatch, no real solid research of any kind. The guy I went fishing with was supposed to be my partner for the Skeeter tour here in Okla. I canceled on him so I could pay off my debt and improve my credit situation to afford my own boat next year. Its looking like I made the right choice in that matter. They always bust on me for researching online and reading articles and such. Guess I'm just gonna keep quite and show them how it pays off when I have my own boat and can fish tourneys the informed and educated way.
  21. I went fishing with a buddy yesterday on a local lake. It was 80 outside with 10mph winds. One of the first perfect days here in Okla to go fishing. Water temps were right at 50. We started off hitting an area my buddy said always produces at least one decent keeper. After about two hours we hadn't even had a bite. While we were leaving that area I noticed at least 3 large schools of shad with fish underneath them at about 30-40ft of water. When I suggested giving drop shotting a shot he said he didn't want to waste such a perfect day fishing deepwater. As we pull up to the next bankline in search of fish I see more shad and fish in the same depth of water and suggest it again to no avail. We beat that bank for two hours without any success either. We fish some docks for another 2hrs and still not even a bite. The only thing we caught was a sunburn all day. Its just extremely frustrating that he is so closed minded to new (to us) techniques even when we can see there are fish there. I also don't understand why he would buy a $1000 fishfinder and not utilize it when there are clearly fish there. I understand that there is a time and place for beating the banks but this was not that time since the fish were still suspending so deep. Ok rant over feel free to comment.
  22. I have 5 frogs. 2 Spro poppers one green one black and 3 regular Spros jungle green, yellow, and black. The hookup problem can be helped by making sure the hooks are sharp and waiting a second or two when they get hit to set the hook. I prefer Spro frogs because of their higher quality. Price wise tho I'd probably own every color if they were closer to the $5 price point. Nothing else is like topwater bite tho. Even when I miss a fish its fun to watch a bass explode on them.
  23. First off I love my Walmart spinnerbaits. Especially if you can get them on sale for .50. I've caught TONS of pond bass on them. And buzzbait's are all I will throw when the water temps are up and its early morning or just before dark. The lures that don't work for me are jigs, lipless cranks, and poppers.
  24. I actually don't mind getting scent on my hands. I'm a smoker and the scent covers up the nicotine, sunscreen, bug spray, and human smells. All of which are a deterrant to bass. So that's just one more use for it. Think about how many times you adjust a worm or hold a jig to pitch it or adjust a trailor. Your putting the bad scents onto your bait everytime you do that stuff. Which means you may get bites, but don't catch those fish because it gets spit out as soon as you notice.
  25. But the fact that he has avoided the issue of how well a bass's sense of smell is is another thing also. A little goes a long way with these. They don't have to be drenched in scent to accomplish their goal. Bottom line is, imo, slow baits are where this product excels. Fast moving reaction baits(cranks, spinners, buzzes, swimbaits) don't need this because the fish should be hooked on the initial bite. So there is no point in putting a product on them that will make the fish strike again because they shouldn't need a second opportunity on those baits if it gets in their mouth.
