  1. Yes you can. I have done this more than a few times. I use devcon 2 ton epoxy. I'm sure rod builders will frown on this, but it is effective. With devcon....that guide isn't going anywhere.
  2. I fished for years with 1 spinning rod...a 6' Berkley Lightning rod with a Quantum spinning reel and 10lb Trilene. You sound like you are set up to catch fish to me. As you get the hang of that casting reel, and the fishing tackle bug bites you harder....you will start upgrading your equipment.
  3. Nope....I just spray two coats of paint and two of clear, and roll with it. I do use a liquid polish when I'm all finished.
  4. The paint I use is House of Kolor; TCP Global sells premixed HOK paint (already reduced) in little 2 and 4oz squeeze bottles. they run $6-$10. I use U-POL clear #1 as my clearcoat....it come in an aerosol can. fishntime- pm sent...
  5. Do you have a sweet reel that has some scars? Maybe a Curado B that you want to look as good as it fishes? Painting a reel isn't that diffifult, and most of the rattle-can repaints I see pics of on the net turn people off. With the proper masking and airbrush painting...you get factory results. I'm no professional and I don't paint reels for people, but I have painted a few of my own and it isn't that difficult. I would be more than happy to give tips to those who own an airbrush and want to attempt this, or info on airbrush artists that you could send your reel to. TDZ's I painted...(I'm working on a metallic red that will be done shortly)
  6. They probably want too much for it. Having a reel painted isn't that difficult, and is more of an option than people realize.
  7. nothing...I'm a little tired of your negativity my friend... seriously, almost all of your posts read as "grump, grump, grump, grump" It's a pretty unique style of rod that offers a new take on how to extract the most sensitivity out of a rod blank. I won't lie; I think sweet daddies posts are somewhat entertaining. I'm not encouraging him, but having an antagonist makes it interesting. Burley does this at times. Just fire back and make your point. Maybe it reminds, me of being on the college football message boards, where you must be able to defend you post at a moments notice. To a point, stirring the pot gets us excited.
  8. He hooked you up well. Second from the left, on the bottom row is an old Bagleys from the '80s. Good bait. The second one that caught my attention is the 1970's Bomber model A in firetiger.
  9. It's a no-brainer....tungsten is significantly better.
  10. That is my favorite flippin' jig of all time. I still have several that I have made new skirts for. I just can't see why they quit making them.
  11. I make my own jigs as well. I've pretty munch gone to a football for everything. I make finesse footballs and regular footballs. I don't pour my own heads; I use Picasso or All Terrain Tackle's. Finesse Jigs... Regular Football...
  12. I think the woven graphite handle extracts every bit of sensitivity that a blank has to offer. They aren't slippery either; I get asked that question alot in regards to my XMG 50's.
  13. I can't find that thread. Will someone help me out?
  14. This answer wins the prize....
  15. 83.78% of statistics are made up. nice
  16. Kelly over at Mimic just released a new bait...a small wobbler with a 1.5" body and a diving depth of 4-6ft. He has added 3-D eyes, which disappoints me a bit. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer the painted eyes. However, I am pretty excited about these and probably bought too many. At $5 a bait....how can you go wrong? I just don't understand how his time isn't worth more money....he still paints every bait by himself. The crankbait monkey seems to be the only monkey left that is riding me.... Link to buy them... http://cgi.ebay.com/Mimic-Lures-Custom-Painted-Handmade-Balsa-Crankbait_W0QQitemZ130322738344QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item1e57d72ca8&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14
  17. Very nice; I just purchased a large lot of cranks from Kelly over at Mimic, and he finally painted me a baby bass. Baby Bass is just a killer color....
  18. For me, the colors I throw at night, when it's overcast, or in very dirty water are the same. Red Shad/black junebug. Anything with a dark silouette will work. In any other conditions, I'm throwing my standard watermelon/green pumpkin.
  19. As stated, fishing rules after a good rain. Not only does it drop the atmospheric pressure, but the rain washes all kinds of bugs and critters into the water. Seek out drains, aka where runoff from surrounding land is entering the water. The water is generally cloudy around drains, and it's almost a given that a few fish will be there picking off easy snacks. My favorite bait for this is the sweet beaver, but honestly, any plastic or jig will most likely get strikes in the aforementioned area. This is probably my favorite time to fish....
  20. I haven't held it yet, but it does have the Steez 100h spool. Granted, it holds a million yards of line, which nullifies the lightweight spool.
  21. It's kind of rad, granted the rod it's on sucks. And yes, I said rad. I'm initiating a comeback.....
  22. Man, I missed that auction :-[, would have paid that kind of money for a NIB '93 rado. Paid $120 for a NIB 521 XLT Plus anniversary edition about a year ago. I swear you replied to that thread. It may have been longer than a couple of months ago. It was showroom perfect. I know reel Mech replied to the thread....he's the one who branded it a '93. I think he said the red color was a BPS exclusive. I tried to dig up the pic with no luck .
  23. But, but..... they're still ugly! Yeah, ugly! And the guides suck! Yeah, the guides suck! : The guides do suck
  24. Obviously, if you aren't on fish....your bait doesn't matter. However, if you are on fish...your bait can have a sizable impact on how well you cultivate from your spot. See the Ultimate Match Fishing match between Boyd Duckett and Kelly Jordan. Prime example. They were out on a hump/dropoff, and Kelly was throwing his fluttter spoon, and boyd was throwing a different spoon. Kelly owned him. It wasn't even close. I don't think you can say the bait doesn't matter; I think the majority of professional anglers would disagree with that. I do agree that your spot takes precedence over your bait, but bait selection isn't far behind.
  25. my mistake; I should have quoted. Redline Robert posted a pic of a Flex-lite; I own several Steez rods but no Flex-lites.
