I was tossing the bightest,largest creature bait I had with me. I tossed the brighter bait so I could see it. Would a Lizard have been a better choice? If I would have stayed a little longer and been more patient,im sure I would have hooked up,but I just wasnt into spending that much time on one single fish.

Went out yesterday and was all set to do some Trout fishing. Was trolling a 1/8oz Acme Kastmaster,trying to work the schools of trout I had seen. My rod tip bends over and I set the hook.The fish has some fight in it,but is "skiing" on top of the water as I reeled it in. I then realized this wasnt a Trout as I had originally thought...It was a HUGE Bass!!! Yep it was Huge alright,maybe only in the attitude department.I was totally caught off guard. Later in the day I was trying to Coax some Larger Bass I could see into biting. I had a Baby Brush Hog tied on and it was all balled up on the hook from getting caught up in some trees.I was in a Ho-Hum mood and decided to lob the bait out for Giggles,No real reason,just messing around,and as I was retrieving it A Bass came from out of nowhere and Whacked it. Boy was I suprised!! I also tossed a Soft Stickbait under a tree and hooked up with a fish 3 times in a row,but everytime the fish came unbuttoned. Eventually,nothing would bite anymore at that spot so I gave it up and moved on. So it seems the Bass bite is heating up. I left the lake as it was getting dark. The temp in the air was cooling off alot but the water temp was at a peak of 63*.

Went out yesterday and as I was cruising some 6-8 ft water I noticed about 3 Bass heading for deeper water as I approached them,they appeared to be spooked by my presence but werent hsauling butt to get out of the area,just cruising into deeper water.. I looked but didnt find any beds. These were the first Bass I have seen this year.I estimate the fish to be 1-3# fish. Later I found something interesting. I was fishing near some large rock cliffs and found a cut into one of the cliffs (see picture) Backed up in that cut there was a Bass,I pitched a bait to it and it would just spook and go away,it would eventually return though. I ended up getting out of my boat and climbed up to the top of the cliff with my rod in attempts to try not to spook the fish.The fish just wasnt interested in my offering Just off that opening sitting about in about a foot of water was a very large fish,I estimate 5# or better,just sitting there suspended. I attempted to toss a bait to it as well and it just cruised intoto deeper water where I coudnt see it anymore.It too eventually returned to that spot as well. So was the smaller of those 2 fish a male,who had just built a nest,trying to coax that larger fish(a female) in to get her to lay her eggs? What best describes the behavior I had just noticed? I did end up catching 2 Bass Yesterday,but Ill post that up in the appropriate section

Ive been waiting for the water to warm up so I can start targeting Bass,but in the mean time I have discovered my new Favorite Trout Lure. Its a 1/8 oz Acme Kastmaster in the Gold color. I havent caught large fish or a huge numer of them,but even the stockers are fun when using an Ultralight setup. As far as Stockers VS. Native. All the fish I catch are Stockers,their pectoral fins are all but gone. Cant understand how they can still steer themselves around. I believe it occurs at the hatchery when the fish are all bunched up in the raceways before they get hauled off to be stocked.

Does anyone still use these? Any tips or suggestions on fishing these?

I too,have caught a fair share of Stocker trout while fishing a Dropshot,as well as Bluegill and Green Sunfish on the same rig.

I dont doubt they work. I read the reason they fall slower is because the wings on the front,that it helps the bait "Glide" instead of a straight drop.

Not sure this has been posted yet,or if anyone has seen it. I laughed pretty good at these.

Anyone ever use either one of these with success? Im used to fishing ZOOM Baby Brush Hogs,so even the Baby Bacon Rind seems pretty bulky. How well do these work,anyone had sucess?

I read in the latest IN-FISHERMAN about using larger inline spinners for Bass. What about other "Trout" lures to catch Bass? Like an Acme Kastmaster. I threw a 1/8 oz version today for the first time and plain wore the Trout out with it. If a larger version were to be offered to Bass think they would find it appealing? Yep $2.00!! I cleaned em out at my Local Walmart,probably purchased 5 at that price. Then 2 weeks later I went on a road trip with my wife to El Paso just for the heck of it. We Stayed next door to a Wal Mart. I snuck out at 3am while my wife was asleep(Per the Bait Monkeys demands) and purchased another 6 at the $2.00 price I also got some Middle N and Deep Little N crankbaits at the $2.00 price

No problem. The only reason I know about that particular Crankbait,is due to Walmart putting all their NORMAN Cranks on Clearance for $2.00. I cleaned em out. Youll notice that the bait in the link I posted has different eyes,but that may be because its a "pro" model. I have several of the exact same crank you posted.Havent tried em out yet though.

Here in AZ you can fish whatever species you want year round. You have to have a trout stamp to keep the trout though.

Wondering if any tournament fishermen(women) have ever caught a legal keeper size fish during a tourney,and released it,forgetting they were fishing a tourney. Or is Tourney fishing that intense that theres no way a mistake like that can be made?

Agreed. Algae will do more good than harm, in fact the worst it will do is louse-up the sight-fishing for spawning bass, and how bad is that? Roger So basically if the bass are always cleaning the nest,then in the Algae on the bottom,if conditions are right,I should have no trouble finding nests???

Do they make an "S" shaped "snake" version?

I went out again today as it was supposed to be the warmest day of the year so far.It was nice but windy as usual.Water was 56* I noticed the milfoil in the lake is all but gone,where its normally matted super thick along the bank and that theres slimy,bright green Algae EVERYWHERE I can see the bottom with my Polarized Sunglasses.Its floating on top as well. Will this algae Bloom affect the spawn? I still cant locate any fish.

in my experience , baby bass stay in close to banks and in and around cover . i wold cast it out parallel to the bank and twitch it around cover with a slow retrieve . also if you can get it out over the tops of grass by the banks would be good for big fish to ambush from below . what sink rate did you get ??? I had no idea there were different sink rates with this bait... *** Correction*** The Hard Baits have different sink rates, The one I have and the one im asking about is the soft version.

I started using Baby Brush Hogs about 2 years ago. I consulted many here on Bassresource.com and I was told to T-rig it with as light a weight so you can still stay in contact(feel) the bait--cast it out,let it settle,give it a shake,twitch it,shake it and just repeat. Speed at which you do this,depends on how the fish tell you they want it. I caught alot of fish(Bass,Bluegill and Green Sunfish) at the base of flooded trees when the water came up from the rains.My favorite color is Green Pumpkin/Chartail (*** Baby Brush Bug)

Picked one up today and was wondering if someone had some experience throwing these. Whats a good time of season to throw them. Whats a good retrieve...Shallow or Deep? Fast or slow? What works best?
