Good overall hook size
I have a bag of 6" Renegade brand worms I purchased from Wal Mart. What is a good overall size hook to use on these. I was gonna go with a 1/0 Wide gap but thought it might be a little on the small size,in case the fish doesnt get the head of the worm in its mouth. Think I might miss some fish with a hook of that size? Would a bigger hook be better?

Color variations in similar baits
So what color is typically considered ELECTRIC BLUE? Is it the purple worm with blue fleck or the almost solid blue color?

Color variations in similar baits
When I say similar I actually mean the EXACT same bait, same brand. EXAMPLE: Renegade 6" worms sold by WalMart. They are currently marketed by LUCK E STRIKE. One of thier colors is "off". Electric Blue. One bag has purple worms with blue fleck. The next bag has a worm thats almost solid blue(it has that much glitter/fleck) You can see the worm has a purple base but to the untrained eye it looks totally blue(due to the amount of fleck/glitter) So which bait is actually the electric blue? Both have the same label but are noticeably different in color.

Favorite Freshwater Fishing TV Show?
The first fishing show I remember watching was the Orlando Wilson Fishing show(still have the jingle in my head). Hank Parker,Fish Fishburn,Bassmasters,Bill Dance,In Fisherman and Roland Martin are all shows I used to catch on the weekends but now I might get lucky if I see a fishing show. I cant say I have a fave anymore cause I just cant seem to find them on TV.

Tube Bait 101
The lake I fish has vegetation that extends about 6-7 feet out from the bank in some areas. There is a "dam" and its made up of Boulders. Theres also areas of steep cliffs that extend straight down into the water. The deepest part I have fished so far measured about 50 feet deep. I dont have a graph or electronics on my boat so I can only observe what I see above the water level. No trees in the water at this time, they will be when the rains come though. There are sections of reeds. Water clarity is good. Supposedly this is the "cleanest lake in Arizona". This lake is stocked with Rainbow Trout, also has Bluegill,Green Sunfish,Largemouth Bass, and Redear Sunfish. There are also crayfish which live in the lake.

Tube Bait 101
Just picked up 4 packages of Tubes from the Local Tackle shops clearance bin. They are made by Big Boys Bait company and I beleive they are out of business. The tubes are the standard size, not real huge but also not tiny crappie tubes . Colors I purchased were: Grey(smoke) with red fleck Off white color(kinda like the color of an item that would glow in the dark) with black fleck Pumpkinseed Grey(smoke) with multiple color sparkles Now heres the questions I have: 1. Whats the best presentation for these baits? 2. Whats better? An exposed hook or a weedless T-rig? With a weedless T rig what size hook is good? 3.Out of the colors I mentioned above, which might be a good overall productive color? 4.What size weight should I use? I can get 1/4 and 1/8 oz jig heads 5.Spinning or baitcasting setup, which is best for these baits? 6. Why are tubes so darn popular? What is it about them that appeals to the fish? Exactly what is a tube supposed to mimic?

Distinguishing strikes between different species
Just like many people I throw Senko style baits. I have switched over to Wacky style since last year. I dont know how it is anywhere else but in the lake I fish,I have Bluegill striking my baits on the fall. When this happens I try to discipline myself AGAINST setting the hook. I noticed the other day,on a Bass I boated, the bite felt just like a Bluegill and I set the hook for the heck of it. Could it be that by NOT setting the hook on what I think is a Bluegill,I may actually be missing some Bass? I usually wait ,after I feel the "peck," for the line to start swimming before I set the hook. How do you all keep the pesky Bluegills at bay,and keep them from driving you absolutely stir crazy?

Black Baits
Specifically Black *** Trick Sticks. Whats the craze? I have read several posts wher people where aching to get thier hands on some of Brents Black Trick Sticks. Why all the hooplah over the black baits, whats so special about that color of ***?

DAMHIK experiences
Was on another forum and they had a thread concerning DAMHIK (aka Dont Ask Me How I Know). Basically little experiences that weve all been through that have taught us a lesson and are a little humorous at the same time. Example being: Never leave your line hanging overboard on the boat while running the trolling motor. It can result in a snarled mess in the prop and a broken rod tip on your favorite rod. DAMHIK. Many of us will relate to such experiences..Anyone else have any DAMHIK experiences relating to fishing we can all learn from and maybe bring some humor along with it?

What do you gather from this article?
I was reading an article on another website concerning the Carolina Rig . Inserted is an excerpt taken from it: NEVER DROPSHOT I'm telling you, never dropshot the BIG 7" lizard on heavy gear so it plays a deadly game of peek-a-boo with bass in the tops of new vegetation in spring. Dropshotting lizards just won't work. And if you do get it to work, never tell anybody. They won't believe you. Never ever dropshot the BABY 4" lizard in rock or gravel beds for smallmouth. After all, lizards are for largemouth, not smallmouth. Right? Don't let the dropshot weight rap against hard bottom, don't mend slack line so the lizard glides and darts down to bottom, never pull it back up slowly so the line barely tightens up - and wait for a bite. You just won't get one. It sounds to me there is some scarcasm in this excerpt. Anyone agree. Almost like they are actually hinting that you SHOULD do just the opposite of whats written. Any thoughts?

Strike King Zero
Throw them T-rigged for a while and youll notice that they start wanting to float and not sinking like it should. Seems they do wear out after being fished aggressively for a while,But they do Catch fish!!

Gonna give a Jig N Craw a try
I plan on throwing the bait in a rocky area. I know crayfish live in the rocks so thats probably good a spot as any to throw. Theres some steep ledges that go into the water and im gonna search there too. Water seems pretty clear. Ill post a pic to let you all judge how clear the water is and how good the visibility is,the pic will be up tomorrow.

Gonna give a Jig N Craw a try
I think im finally starting to get it(jig fishing that is). I took the Jig I bought, trimmed the skirt the best I could, and then doctored some of these gambler bacon rinds up. I cut the long twirl tail appendage off and then cut the bait off right at the triangular wing looking things. Looks pretty neat on a jig. I then tied about 7 ft of line onto it and played around with it in my 55 Gal Aquarium. I see what trimming the skirt does- It makes the fibers dance even when the bait is at rest with the slightest twitch. I see how the bait behaves ,seeing that makes me understand how it should look and how slow I need to fish it to make it look natural.

Gonna give a Jig N Craw a try
Ive been thinking of trying a new bait. Decided to go with a Jig N Craw. Walmart Only has 1 type of Jig. They sell the Gerald Swindle Matrix Jig in a Black/Blue 3/8 size. is this jig any good? How about the 3/8 size,is that an all over decent size? Wal Mart didnt have any trailers . Whats a good choice of color and style/brand for a trailer? Do I want to match the jig color when choosing a trailer,or should I go with a contrasting color? Would this creature bait be a good choice as a trailer: http://www.gambler-lures.com/baconrind.html I have some of these in a junebug color. They seem big, what if I was to shorten it?

Catch and release lakes
A lake nearby that I have never fished is labeled" Catch and Release" for Largemouth Bass. The lake I do fish on a regular basis has alot of Dink fish it,with an occasional 2-5 lber caught. Cant say this lake consistently produces a good number of larger fish. What are the chances of catching more quality fish at the catch and release lake. Id like to get into some fish that would go at least 2 lbs

Drifting in Jonbaot while anchored
I wasnt aware of the 7:1 ratio. What is meant by that? What I do is I find an area I want to fish,Drop anchor to the bottom and then take the slack and tie it off. I still end up drifting and if im not driting then im spinning in circles. I tend to drift everytime I move around in my seat to make a cast or something. So what am I doing wrong in my scenario?

Length of fish in a tourney
In a Tourney setting what is the minimum length a fish has to in order to consider it a "keeper". Do sizes in a tournament vary based on Tounament organiser or body of water, from state to state? Are rules pretty much consistent or do the rules change from tourney to tourney? How do "slot limits " work? Im asking because I fish a lake and catch alot of dinks. I have never fished a tourney and think it would be neat to do a day of Fantasy tourney fishing, just to see if I can catch a limit of keepers. I dont have a livewell so after every fish is caught and measured,it would be photographed and returned to the water. Im not even thinking of keeping a tally of weight...Just a tally of the fish that would qualify as keepers in a tourney.

Sinking rate of Different lines
For about 2 weeks I was using some Cabelas proline and doing very well, averaging about 10 fish per outing(mostly dinks). I bought a new reel and spooled it with Stren 10lb Mono in the same color of the Cabelas Line and my catch rate went down to about 3 per outing. I then spooled a reel with #20 Spiderwire Stealth with a 6ft leader made of Stren 10lb line and just about got totally skunked(caught 1) by having my girlfriend notice my line was swimming away while I was looking the opposite way. I wasnt doing anything else different. Was throwing *** Trick Sticks in a Watermelon Purple swirl color wacky rigged. Seemed like on every spot I fished with the Cabelas line I would catch at least 2 and get several bites. Does the braid have a different sink rate than the Mono? Maybe yesterday when I almost got skunked, the bait just wasnt getting as deep as I thought? I know itCould have been alot of different factors but this is one factor im curious about.

How long to typically fish one spot?
Whats a good time frame to use when trying to thoroughly fish a spot? I dont have any electronics on my boat so Im only judging a spot based on what I see on the surface. There are places in a lake no matter where in the US,that there just arent going to be ANY fish of any species in that particular location at a given time. Whats a good determing factor to try to figure out if a certain spot is actually holding fish? I know fan casting is a good search technique, what are some others? Do you measure it in the amount of casts you make without a bite? I dont want to waste my time just chucking a bait in a spot that isnt holding any fish, that can cause a real downer on a days fishing, when you could be moving to another location that IS potentially holding fish.

Drifting in Jonbaot while anchored
I had a doozy of a time yesterday trying to stay put in my Jon Boat even with the anchor dropped. While I can understand drifting when its windy, its hard to grasp why im drifting when theres no wind. Is it just the shift in weight as I cast? I kept needing to reposition myself and it meant pulling up the anchor, turning the boat, moving a few feet several times per hour . Just got frustrating to try to get back on that "sweet spot" I wanted to fish. My Jon is 10' long. I sit in the back, thats where the trolling motor, battery and anchor point is. It still drifts and spins with another grown adult on board with me. Would it make a difference to put the anchor point up front? I believe my anchor is just heavy enough. Im using a used front brake rotor(full floater type,no grease involved whatsoever) off my Ford truck. Id estimate it weighs at least 10lbs. Anything heavier just makes it difficult and tiring to haul up when I spend a full day on the lake. Anyone have any suggestions on how to keep the boat from spinning when im fishing? *Disclaimer* I mention the Brake rotor is of the full floating type,so I dont give anyone the indication I may be polluting the lake with the wheel bearing grease in the rotor. In this type of rotor there is no grease...The rotor came off a 4WD truck and just slides on and off the lug nut studs once the caliper is removed from the vehicle. Im using it because it was worn out and was going to go in the trash anyway,so why not put it to use?

Red?
Cmon!! I mean seriously. Some of the technology geared towards catching fish is a bunch of Horse Hooey. Cajun Red line is supposed to be invisible to the fish? How does anyone TRULY know . How does one TRULY know what a fish sees or not. Some bait imitators are in the same category. A certain type bait is supposed to mimic a certain food . How does anyone truly know what a fish sees it as. What appears to be Chartreuse to the normal human(non color blind )eye could actually appear to be a color on the total opposite side of the color spectrum to a Fish, like lets say purple. Whos to say Fish arent color blind, can only make out light and dark and only strike at Movement? How does anyone know what a fish TRULY sees and as far as baits go...Who truly knows why fish strike at baits on certain days and not on others. Who truly knows what makes a fish Truly tick. Until a Fish can talk we wont really know, and can just guess and draw conclusions.

ESTIMATING WEIGHT BASED ON LENGTH MEASURE
IMHO the calculator "CAN" be off I caught my PB about 3 weeks ago and measured the fish using fishing line. Took those measurements and put them into 2 different calculators(1 on this site and 1 on another site) Both times I entered the same dimensions, same style fish(Bass) and I got a different weight on each calculator. So I just added the 2 weights and divided by 2 to get an average. On this site I got a weight of 5.9 lbs based on the dimensions I entered On the other site it calculated 6.2 lbs Added up and divided by 2 I get a weight of 6.05 lbs

Braided line sensitivity when using a leader
I just spooled my baitcaster with #20 Spiderwire Stealth,Im also using about 5-6 ft of 10 lb Stren Low Vis green as a leader and as a sort of shock tippet. I have attached the two lines using a Uni-Uni Knot. Question I have is: If the Braided line is supposed to be so sensitive, will I lose any sensitivity or feel by attaching the leader. Does the knot make for an obstacle with the sensitivity? Sorry if the question seems so simple, but I havent ever tried any serious fishing with Braided line

Storm Lures
Anyone else look at these lures as marginal at best? I havent purchased any just because they look cheap. Some baits are made to catch fisherman, well these sure dont(they look like toys, alot of them dont appear realistic). Anyone ever had consistent success using this brand of tackle/lures?

Powerpro VS Spiderwire Stealth
I know this has been covered before and its just like the Senko/Knockoff debate. Which one(in everyones opinion) is better between the 2. What are your experiences? In everyones personal experience, what are the strong(good) and weak(bad) points of each line? I know there are other lines that everyone likes, but I am only concerned with the comparison of these 2 lines? No matter what brand braided line, what are somethings that should be done differently when using braids that are normally done with Mono? Such as how the drag should be set,and how the line may behave different or cause lures to behave differently? What are somethings that need to be aware of when using braided line? I already know to carry scissors to cut the line and watch your fingers cause it can cut to the bone. Thanks
