  1. Worked on a Dropshot rig all last summer and caught alot of dinks,Bluegill and Trout. Wouldnt ya know it... Over the winter I stocked up on D/S baits(a bunch!!) and havent caught a single fish this year on that technique :-/
  2. I was out the other day and noticed some fishing line dangling from a tree. I decided to see what was at the end. It led to a Culprit Spinnerbait stuck under the water. Couldnt have been there too long, maybe a few days. The blades( chrome willow leaf)are discolored. How can I bring a shine back to them? Does the shine /flash really makes a difference or is vibration more of a factor when fishing a spinner bait?
  3. Whats the majority here ? Do more people throw Baby Brush Hogs or The regular Brush hogs? I started throwing *** Baby Brush Bug yesterday and the fish loved em. They were all pretty small(12-15 inchers),will the bigger Brush Hogs increase the size of the fish,or do you all still catch the same size fish no matter which version Brush Hog your throwing? Or is my lake just loaded with 12-15 inchers, because thats all I really EVER catch. I have caught a few 3-5 pound fish but they only come on a very rare occasion.
  4. Well, I no longer feel naked. I started trying Brush Hogs and have gained confidence with them. I no longer get that big itch to throw Senkos. I have em ,but I caught just as many fish on Baby Brush Hogs,so thats what im going to start using.
  5. I ordered some *** Baby Brush Bugs in green pumpkin/Chartail and fished them all day yesterday. I did have a *** rigged up on another rod but didnt feel the urge to use it at all. I ended up catching 14 Bass on the Bush Bugs and 1 on a spinnerbait. Unfortunately the Bass were all in the 12-14 inch range. Now I just need to work on gettin after the bigger fish!! Im cured!!!! (I think)
  6. I fished with Baby Brush Hogs last outing and noticed the fish were striking and ripping the wavy twirl tails off(probably Bluegill or Green Sunfish). Anyone have any luck fishing a Brush Hog type bait WITHOUT the wavy twirl tails? Do the twirl tails really make that much of a difference?
  7. It didnt straighten it out. Its a Matsuo hook, I forget what style,it has some wierd angles on it, Does sickle hook sound right?
  8. I have recently gained confidence in Baby Brush Hogs and I feel they imitate a crawfish well. The Bass Im catching are gorging themselves on Crayfish so I know the "bugs" I use will catch em. They are gorging themselves so much they are puking.
  9. Sheesh! And to think I get all worked up over catching a fish in the 3-5 lb range. That water Fish Chris catches fish in would have me spoiled. Congrats on another beauty!!!
  10. What in the world is wrong with this picture? Caught this fish on Baby Brush Hog. Do fish do this often? This is a first for me.
  11. Craziest thing about catching this fish was how it was hooked. It gave a short fight and the whole time I kept thinking "PLEEEZE dont come off" (Fish this size for me seem to be few and far between) I boated it,took some pictures and when I went to remove the hook.IT HADNT EVEN PENETRATED the skin. The hook was just wedged in the hinge of the fishes jaw. Talk about luck!! I think this fish hadnt been caught in a long time( or never). Its outer mouth area was very clean, not a single sign of any old wounds,no holes or nothing/ Oh heres the pic of the release
  12. As some of you know I am a *** only kind of guy,and I have recently run out completely.I was told to try something else, well I did and I now have confidence in another bait. Today I tried Baby Brush Hogs exclusively.I forced myself to fish them and ended up catching about 7 fish Total on them. I also emptied out and used up the only bag on Baby Brush Hogs I have. I found some Senkos in the bottom of my box and decided to throw them. I caught 3 on them. It was starting to get dark and the Senko bite was gone and I couldnt think of anything else to throw. I had a spinnerbait rigged up and remembered the other night a guy was slow rolling a spinner bait and was slaying em,so I decided to give it a try. I was 3 casts into my spinnerbait when I saw a dink in the tulles leap out of the water to capture a dragonfly. Figuring the fish would probably still be close to that location,I made my cast in the same spot the fish jumped. I gave maybe 3 cranks of the reel and then all H*LL broke loose. There was a huge explosion and my rod went from straight up to even with the water. I set the hook and the fight was on. All day I had been catching 12 inchers. This one was way bigger. I weighed it with a cheapo spring scale and it said the fish weighed 2 lbs. Needless to say that scale is now at the bottom of the lake. Any guesses on what it weighed?
  13. I know I did say I wanted to try something different and well starting tomorrow I will (even if it kills me). I have no choice in the matter(no Trick Sticks),and have thought about it all weekend... I cant let not having my favorite bait from stopping me from going out. LBH said it best a few weeks ago, that even if you fish and get skunked, dont worry about it.Take in the scenery and the sounds of nature.
  14. Normally I dont use anything BUT stickbaits,I threw a Baby Brush Hog a few times on my last outing and got a few bites, and caught one,so my confidence in that bait went up a little. Since my order will take a few days to get here,im gonna try tubes and the Brush Hog Tommorrow because the Bass seem to be Gorging themselves on Crawfish in the newly flooded shallows.
  15. How can or should I approach this particular area? Its basically an area where a creek runs into the lake. Used to be able to walk across it to get to the other side, and there was a field of really short grass on it.Since its rained heavily its totally flooded over and id estimate it to be at least(if not more than) 6 feet deep. I can run my TM without hitting bottom and the TM is adjusted all the way down. I caught 1 fish on a Soft stick bait there ,and another guy said he was throwing a jig and caught a few. Im out of Trick sticks at the moment and well I want to try something else. Any thoughts?
  16. I did a brake job on my truck and the Rotors were going in the trash anyway,so I figured what the heck. And if the anchor line breaks ,well, worse things have happened!! Ive seen people fill coffee cans with cement and insert an eye bolt in the top. I have also seen people fill gallon Jugs with sand or cement.
  17. Was just thinking of something I heard once. That is when fishing from a boat, never release the fish on the same side of the boat that you landed it. For what reason,I dont know. Any truth to this theory? What about other myths and superstitions you all can think of.
  18. I am debating on what color to purchase on my next order. Theres a few I like,But not sure if they are a surefire color. What colors of soft stick baits do you all use almost exclusively and why? Knowing this might help me to pick colors on my next purchase.
  19. I read in a Bass magazine(cant remember which one)that sometimes Bass see the flakes or fleck in a plastic bait as a cloud of small ,newly hatched fish fry.Instead of striking the bait because its a worm, Senko or Lizard, the fish will actually target the flecks/flakes. In fact the writer of the article was on the boat with Mike Ike and he was the one making that statement and observation. Anyone ever heard of such a thing. Im not doubting it,(we are talking about Mike Ike here, hes good, so why doubt him)but just wondering what everyone else thinks of this.
  20. When I accessed my email and went to look at the replies,I got an error message that said basically" You are not authorized in this area" Guess the "area" was a Mod only area. Im just puzzled why my post ended up there, wherever "There" is . Was thinking of reposting it,but then I figured some people might not want to re-reply with thier answers or opinions which were given when I originally posted the topic. If you can find it,that would be great. Thanks for all your help..
  21. Now I know I may get grief for posting this here but please bear with me. This could go into the boating section, but this is more of a question concering technique than about boats in general. That being said ,here goes. I fish out of a 10ft Aluminum Jon Boat,in which I have no choice but to sit down when I fish due to the size and stability. How does one pitch and flip while sitting down? Is it even possible? Anyone give me pointers on how to counter this dillema, other than buying a bigger boat?
  22. Given an ideal scenario, how long does it take a Bass to reach a weight of 5 lbs? Reason im asking is because I once caught a 4.5-5 lb fish and released it after capturing on film. The guy fishing near me asked why I released it. I told him it was for a variety of reasons: 1. Respect for the catch. This fish didnt get that big overnight. It had to flee from predators, and do all it could to survive. I figure it took this fish some time to reach the size it did.It gave me a good fight and I appreciated it and thus I released it 2. I want to try to maintain the fishery,If this had been a female,I want her to lay eggs next year to allow this fishery to flourish. 3. I want to give future generations the opportunity to catch something so nice(hoping when the fish is caught again that it will again be released...one can only hope) This guy tells me the particular fish I just released got to be that size in just a matter of one year. Gee wish it were true. Realistically how long does it take a fish to reach a certain size? I know a 5 lber in a large lake may not be much, but the body of water I caught this fish in is very small, about the size of a swimming pool. So to catch that fish in that pond, well to me it was special. As a matter of fact, the very fish im speaking of is pictured in my avatar.
  23. I have had SOME success in this lake catching an occasional 2-3 lb'er. On my first outing this year I boated and released 2 fish that were right at 5.5-6 lbs and the other 12 fish that particular day were about 12 inchers. So im guessing this is a good thing?
  24. In the fishing Tackle section I poted about colors of Trick sticks. I cant access my replies. What gives?
