Smallest Bass Ive caught all year
Everyone always talks about the big-uns,well heres a change of Pace. Got this one last night just as it was getting dark. The Spinnerbait I caught it on is pictured with it, For a minute I thought I had a clump of weeds.Caught it on a medium heavy rod. Fish mustve taken it deep because it started to bleed. I rinsed off the blood and it swam away with vigor.

Inconsistencies in price
I went to the local taqckle shop today to purchase some Baby Brush hogs. Yes I know I can get a better deal from Brent, but at the moment my Paypal account is empty. Anyway... I go to where the brush hog section and notice different prices on all the baits. Ranging from $3.29 a bag to $3.79 a bag. Prices were different based on color, and then.. I found the peg that had some black with red fleck baby brush hogs. The one on top was priced $3.79,the one behind it was $3.49,behind that $3.29,Then the one behind it was $3.59. Same bait, same color, same peg,all different prices. Threw me for a loop,so I looked around and found as many $3.29 bags as possible. I know its only a few cents difference but really makes no sense. Why charge different prices for different colors on the same bait and so on and so forth. Any thoughts?

Something that seriously made me wonder....
I was at the local tackle shop today and the owner and I got to talking about certified weights of fish. So heres the scenario I got to thinking about: The nearest lake to fish locally is 30 miles away from the town I live. The tackle shop scale in the town I live is the ONLY certified Game and Fish scale around. Lets say for whatever reason I were to catch a state record record LMB out of the nearest lake(30 miles away from where I live) and I wanted to get it certified at the tackle shop in town. Game and Fish regulations prohibit the transport of live fish. I am a Catch and Release enthusiast though. So would I have to kill the fish in order to legally transport it to the scales? If I were to transport it live, with the intention of releasing it,weigh it on the tackle shops scales and it ended up as a state record, what would happen when Game and Fish came to verify it...Would I end up getting the state record and a hefty fine or would they disqualify it because the fish was transported live? The guy at the tackle shop said the scale at his shop was provided by the Arizona Game and Fish Dept and they maintain it once a year. The thought of this scenario just made me wonder....Any thoughts?

Fishfinder has me confused
My Cuda did come with a booklet, but I really couldnt undersatnd it. It never mentioned anything about the scrolling feature constantly updating information. I know that now,and Im starting to understand it better. Thanks for the help on this issue.

Fishfinder has me confused
Can anyone talk me through the proper operation/settings on my new Fishfinder> What I have is an Eagle Cuda 168. A few of the things im confused about is scroll speed. How do you REALLY know when your over an object, like a hump or drop off? When I sit stationary, anchored,my Fishfinder still scrolls,Very confusing. I understand that the fish ID feature is for the most part unreliable,so I turned that off and didnt see ANY arches the whole day. I know there are fish there but they dont show up on the graph. Or is it just a matter of keeping an eye on the depth your in,and any sudden changes? Is there anywhere that I can get a crash course on reading a graph?

10 Inch Power worm on a Carolina rig
Do 10" Power worms work better when T-Rigged or Carolina Rigged? I just purchased a fishfinder and am all in the mindset of fishing the deeper water.

Bait monkey Twisted my Arm/How do you think I did?
Bait Monkey at BPS Las Vegas was in full effect today and had me load my cart with all kinds of clearance items today. I put some of them back, Such as 4" Tubes and Lizards, because I knew there was a likelihood I wouldnt use them. Heres what I did end up purchasing: 4 bags of 10" Berkley Powerworms @$1.98 a bag Norman Middle N Crankbait $1.98 Norman Mad N Crankbait $1.98 2 BPS XPS Tender Toads @ $1.99 ea 2 spools Silver Thread AN40 Fishing Line in #10 & #12 @ $1.99 a spool 1 spool #10 BPS XPS Mono line $3.88 1 spool #10 Shakespeare Supreme Line $1.49 Based on what I purchased and the prices, how well would you say I did? I originally went in for a new prop/nut and shear pin for my Trolling motor. Oh I got that....+ the items above + a new fishfinder + a bracket to mount the transducer to my TM. I was literally combing the aisles for items marked with a red clearance tag(I had just won $100 on slots) That darn Baitmonkey...Gets me EVERY TIME!!

10" Berkley Power Worm
So there I was at BPS today, thinking like a Bass!! Scouted the whole tackle section for the RED clearance labels. I found some 10" Electric Grape Berkley Power Worms for $1.98 a bag(among some other baits I couldnt pass up). I bought all 4 bags they had remaining of that color at that price.Guess they just werent selling too well. Now that I have em,how do I fish these bohemoths? Do I fish it the same way I would a regular plastic worm,or is there a different technique due to its size? Is the color ok? What size hook should I use and what size sinker? Is this a better bait during the day or should I primarily fish it at night? Any other pointers anyone could point out would be great.

Purchased a Fishfinder/overwhelmed
Im in Vegas for the weekend and won $100 on slots. I decided to go to Bass Pro to treat the bait monkey. I decided to buy a Fishfinder. What I purchased was an Eagle Cuda 168,for a grand total of $86. One of the sales people there also advised me to mount the transducer on the Trolling motor, and sold me on purchasing an adapter/mount for the trolling motor. I have a few questions though. 1. How good of a Fishfinder is the one I purchased? 2. Anyone have any luck/issues with mounting the transducer to the trolling motor? 3.Can anyone give me a run down on the essential settings I need to be aware of? Im reading the manual and the settings are making my head spin and im overwhelmed at how to operate this gizmo. What are some of the essential things I need to learn when I get out to operating this thing? Is there a Fishfinder 101 basics article either here on BR or can anyone give me link to a crash course on operating this thing? 4. One last question or three: Is a fishfinder really THAT necessary in order to catch decent fish? The way im fishing now is,I get out about 20-30 feet from the bank and cast into the shallow water. Im catching mostly dinks. I figure it like this,I could purchase all the baits in the world, those wont help unless I know where im throwing and what is under the water. Right now Im just guessing(fishing blindly) with my casts.,Im casting and just "hoping" there are fish in the areas im casting.Would fishing using a fishfinder be considered more of a precision technique? Im really trying to learn how to fish deeper water and produce bigger fish. Will a fishfinder give me an edge on finding structure and fish that are relating to it? Anyone here successful consistently WITHOUT the aid of a fishfinder?

And here I thought I had a HUGE fish
How bout PIGLET? ;D

Senko Rod
I tend to stay on the low budget end of the spectrum.I use either a 6'6" MH Quantum Torsion ($20 at Walmart) or a Shakespeare MH 6"6" Excursion ( $15.00 at Walmart) Both work fine for me. Ive never used anything more expensive,or any other brand, so as far as im concerned, Both of these rods help me catch fish just fine, so why shell out the extra $$$. To each his own, this is just my experience with things.

And here I thought I had a HUGE fish
Heres how the fish Actually measured out. This fish and the one other fish I caught today were both caught on Sour Grape ***(pictured between the fish and the rod) Plump little fish though!!

And here I thought I had a HUGE fish
Went to the local pond today, the fish were still slammin the dragonflies, and the bite was slow. The fish pictured was caught right before I packed up to go home. Got all fouled up in the Milfoil. For a minute I thought I had a Hawg. I had to dig through, just to find the fish!! You can see all the salad I hauled in under the fish.

Most ridiculous Item of the day!!
Yea yea,Very true!! I get everyones point,I sure aint ready to give up $1000 a year to be able to fish that one pond ONCE a year,Regardless of what size the fish are. For that price ill take a guided trip to Mexico.

What should I have done to catch these fish?
Its the age old situational question. Today at a local pond the Bass and Bluegill were going crazy. Dragonflies were swarming and the Fish were leaping completely out of the water after them. I threw a Rapala Skitter pop and managed to catch a small Bass and a Bluegill which I never even felt.I threw a buzzbait,I slow rolled a Spinnerbait,I threw Trick Sticks, both Trigged and wacky rigged.I threw a Weightless Brush Bug,a 4" Renegade worm and a Berkley Finesse worm weightless, but still nothing. They just werent into my offers but they were feeding aggressively. When I was throwing the Trick Sticks,I threw a Green Pumpkin color(Not even a bump from a Bluegill) Then I switched to a Sour Grape Color and on the second cast wacky rigged got a fish. After that, nothin!! Used to be when I saw a fish break water after a bug or dragonfly,I could cast right to where it just jumped and just watch my line twitch and slowly swim off. They just werent havin it today. With the fish being so aggressive, what can I do to better my chances of catching these Bass?

Most ridiculous Item of the day!!
Im tired of driving to the local lake I fish so I decided to check my options. Theres a pond close by,no mainteneance is ever done,no stocking and such. I fished there and caught 2 Bass. As I drove home I remembered the local in town Golf Course in the country club has some ponds. Instead of just going there to fish,I decided to inquire for permission. I was told the pond was a members only pond and could only be fished once a year(Fathers day). The lady asked me if I would like to become a member.I inquired about the price. She asked me if I was a golfer,I told her I wasnt a golfer, but rather a fisherman. The lady said they had a "Social membership" which cost $1000,and allowed members to use the tennis court(I dont play tennis),the swimming pool(I can swim elsewhere alot cheaper) and the dining hall(the food really cant be THAT good!!),oh and Id get to fish the pond on Fathers day. Big WHOOP!!! Well ya know what? For that price ,I think Id rather get caught on the pond illegally. The fine for that would probably be alot less!! Of course im a law abiding citizen and wouldnt actually do such a thing, thats the whole reason I asked in the first place. Can you believe the nerve of some of these snooty people??

Outboard left in the rain
I have a 4hp Chrysler Outboard which I got from my Uncle last year. Its currently sitting outside clamped on a stand . I havent ever run this motor since Ive owned it and im not sure the last time it was operated. How much(if any) harm will occur by the motor being left outdoors, and the rain getting on it. My theory(which may be wrong) is; Its exposed to water anyway when its being run on a lake,so how much harm can rain do to it? Am I wrong in this thought process? If I am wrong please dont beat me up too much!! Thanks!!

another obsolete topwater lure im looking for
That be the one!!! Thanks Avid. Anyone still use this bait with success?

another obsolete topwater lure im looking for
Saw it years ago and have wondered what it was called and where to find it. It was metal, like a wide spoon shape and had a slot in the center where there was a metal disc or paddle that would churn up water. It also had a rubber skirt on the back. Think it was weedless, saw some guys throwing it in the slop after a heavy rain, just slammin the fish!! Wanna say it was a Moss Boss but that aint it.

Looking for a certain topwater lure
Basspro48, That would be the bait in question. Thanks a bunch. Now ...where can this bait be purchased? Im heading to Vegas this weekend, and as always will visit Bass Pro Shops...Do they still sell this bait?
-
Looking for a certain topwater lure
Its basically shaped like a Zara Spook but its a soft bodied lure and the trebles are toward the back of the bait sorta tucked in to make it weedless,so it can just skim across topwater vegetation

Looking for a certain topwater lure
Was at the lake yesterday and a guy was putting away his boat. We got to talking and he said he does real well on a certain bait. I think he called it a Black Ghost or a Magic Ghost. Ive seen the bait before but cant remember what the name if it was. Its a hollow soft plastic topwater bait, weedless, and shaped like a cigar. No tentacles, legs or appendages. Just a short stubby cigar shape to it. Ive searched online but cant recall what its called. Anyone have any idea of what im talking about?

What kind of Spinnerbait blades?
This particular spinnerbait has given me some luck as of late in the evening. On two occasions I was able to catch fish on it. The fish in my avatar was caught on this particular bait. I know this is a Bill Dance series spinnerbait,Ive never seen blades like this before. What kind are they. Anyone ever owned this bait and had luck with it?
