  1. you can't run it too slow , a medium slow retrieve is required to get the action going on these things , for deep grass flats i like them , but for the shallow places , i choose to go with a frog ...
  2. hit up the mats and lily pads with a Canyon Plastics 4.5" frog , punching mats with a Yum craw papi with a 1 oz. weight , runnin' thru light grass with a 10" power worm pegged with a 3/8 oz. bullet weight , and gonna try carolina rigging a smokin rooster this summer . i love summer time ;D
  3. been using the 4" flukes on a double rig and the bass can't resist
  4. nice spinnerbait rod , also good for texas rigged plastics ...
  5. if it is for bass , forgo the UL and get a LIGHT powered , ex-fast rod . i would suggest a shimano clarus 6'6'' L , ex-fast spinning rod with a shimano stradic ci14 2500 , spooled with 6# p-line cxx .....
  6. practice , practice and more practice !!! soon you will hardly ever backlash , everybody does that when they lose focus on the cast , i know i have !!!!
  7. by the way , the FUJI alconite guides are very good , they are in the CONCEPT line of guides . i'm gonna have them on my custom swimbait rods ...
  8. i haven't owned one yet , but i am looking to get some of their blanks to have some nice rods made , their blanks are super light . a 7'6''H sounds nice ! i am looking at getting a 76 M , moderate fast (cstaway 903) and the 7'6'' med. h , moderate (castaway 904). gonna be some awesome crankbait sticks !!!!!
  9. i like to fast crank them down to their running depth then slow it down just until i can see my rod tip twitching with the lures action . i love the DD22's , deep little n's , strike king series 6 , bomber fat free shad BD7's , spro little john deep diver's , and manns 30+ . oh yeah , i like the floating models .
  10. use a 3/8 oz. weight , good for 15-25 ft. as far as dropshotting , i like to cast it out up to 20 feet away from the boat , 16 ft. of water is a little close for d.s. directly below in my opinion .....
  11. that would make an excellent carolina rig rod and , for me , i would use it for frogs ...
  12. strike king red eye shad 1/2 oz. and 3/4 oz. in shore minnow and green gizzard shad .
  13. if you are bringing 4 or less combos , i would use this one http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20325&id=0012079014735a&navCount=1&podId=0012079&parentId=cat20325&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=UK&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true
  14. i rinse my reels after pier fishing with the spray nozzle in my sink , it is not very high pressure . i only use my REVO INSHORE for salt water , even tho it is made for it , i still rinse it after each use
  15. i like P-line in 6# for spinning rods , it does have some memory but is manageable , just change it out when it gets to bad. i use 10# and 12# for baitcasters , but am gonna try 8# here pretty soon (next time i re-spool ) should be very good since i throw alot of deep diving crankbaits and big worms(1/4-3/8 oz. bullet weight , texas rigged) so yeah , p-line cxx is some good line , just don't favor it in 15# and up . when i go 15# and up , i use Izorline XXX ....
  16. i thought you said for flipping and for swimbaits . do youcast the jigs or flip them ?? if i was just flipping them and using it to punch mats , i would get the XH . if i was using it to cast jigs and to flip plastics , i would get a heavy powered rod . i like a stiffer rod(extra heavy) when short flipping ( punching mats and soft plastics ) and a slightly less stiffer rod so i can get more on the cast and be able to fight the fish better when the fish is a ways away from me ( if you cast out the jig a ways). so that's my opinion , and it works for me
  17. i personally use nothing but ABU GARCIA REVO baitcasters . if your looking for a reel you can flip with AND throw swimbaits , get a REVO INSHORE . it holds 175 yards of 12# test line , i have about 90-100 yards of 20# Izorline XXX line on it . it has 24 lbs. of drag and is built solid , has a 6.4:1 gear ratio that can do both jobs efficently .i also have a REVO TORO and i would not suggest you use this reel to flip with , i use it just for big swimbaits . here is the link for the INSHORE - http://www.***.com/Abu_Garcia_REVO_Inshore_Casting_Reel/descpage-AGRI.html and a picture of it ...
  18. get the heavy , you got to remember that you don't want the rod too stiff (would be good for flipping , not good for casting unless you throw swimbaits heavy enough to let the rod load up to cast decently )
  19. the BPS that is closest to me is rancho cucamunga and the "pros" that are coming are lame - February 27: 2pm Jamie Howard, Producer of Bass: The Movie February 28: 2pm Captain Ben Secrest, Accomplished Inshore and Offshore anglerFishing Small Reels for Big Fish what a joke ............ :
  20. Bye Slimecoat... that is true about their slime coat , if you were to use a plastic bag to weigh them , put water in it , zero out the scale , then put the fish into the bag ..
  21. i must have , maybe cause the tackle store near me does not sell alot of it ( they have alot though ! ) and the guys there say that not many people like it . i guess i might try some more some time on one of my backup spinning set-ups ...
  22. is that the same for ultra-soft , cause i was using 6 lb. and that stuff's memory got worse , couldn't cast light weight baits far at all , towards the end of the day , i took it off the reel .
  23. i'm so glad i live in San Diego , Ca . ;D ;D ;D , i can fish 365 days a year . only time it is not to good to fish is when it rains hard , but i'm a diehard and don't let the rain bother me !!!
  24. when placing it in the gills , only place it in the part that is closest to the tip of his mouth , meaning don't put it in where the red part of the gils as you can make the fish bleed out and cause serious damage . think of the red part of the fishes gills as their lungs , they are sensitive , and release the fish quickly after you weigh it and take a picture ....
