Drop Shot Rod Actions
I've never done a bunch of drop shotting but want to work on gaining confidence with it. Everything I read says to use a fast or extra fast action.. It seems to me that a moderate action would be the way to go to aid in fighting a fish on light line. Hookset should not be an issue being light wire drop shot hooks do not take much pressure to penetrate the fishes mouth. I understand the stiffer the rod the more sensitive it will be to help detect bites but from my experience wacky worming with owner mosquito hooks when the fish bite they almost hook them selves and with the Lighter rod and light line it seems there would be no problem detecting a bite even with the slower action. Does anyone drop shot with a moderate action rod vs a fast or extra fast? Im looking at the veritas ML moderate for drop shotting in 6'9" length.

Rage Tail Challenge
I bought two packs of my confidence colors and will give them a wirl on my next outing and compare to the speed craws I usually use.

Favorite Lures Of 2011
yeah I try to gain confidence in new stuff while practicing or fun fishing and the shaky head has not been to kind. I gained a ton of confidence on a swim jig this year which is a nice change up from a spinnerbait when fishing clean water. The North Star swim jigs are killer with a zoom fat albert trailer..

Different Results With Same Lure
They are different no doubt..But not quite as different as you described. The reason I dont use paca craws is bc I think the small ones are too small and the regular ones are too large for me anyway. Ive caught fish on both sizes but prefer the size of other craws which is all preference as some love them. One thing I have found with all the craws I have fished is that they all take atleast a 3/8 weight to really get the claws moving on the fall. Would these rage craws have better action with say a 1/8-1/4 ox weight than other craws? I usually fish craws in the months where the fish are more active from pre spawn through summer and fish beavers or super hogs during the colder months with a lighter weight for a slower fall.

Different Results With Same Lure
So your saying the difference between a paca craw and a rage craw is equivelent to the difference between a lipless crank and a dd22?? Wow... I beleive Vinny was saying the same thing you did a few post back that when they are fired up they will eat anything and dont care wether is a rage, paca, speed craw etc. as you mentioned catching them on an un baited hook.. Im not hating on the rage line by any means but people who come on hear and claim these rage craws are so magical crack me up. It honestly makes me not want to fish them.. A chigger craw is about as plain as you can get when it comes to a crawfish imitator but yet people swear by them and they catch plenty fish..I will say it one more time then im done, CONFIDENCE.

Different Results With Same Lure
confidence period.. How much technology can you really put into a plastic crawfish or any plastic bait for that matter?? I doubt the fish discriminate between speed craws, paca craws, rage craws etc.. For me its about, value, durability and productivity and there are plenty brands that fit the bill.. Pick one and develop confidence in it. When I first started Bass Fishing I got caught up in thinking I had to try every brand bait on the market looking for that magic bait. Since then I have stuck with 1 or 2 brands I have confidence in and it has helped my fishing a lot.. I am sure the Rage stuff works just fine but its not Magic and not the only bait out there. They come in hard shells to protect them and smell great which is cool but not worth the extra money IMO. Fish do not seem to mind the little dents in my zoom plastics and they catch fish just fine. I am more impressed with the HAVOC line. Durable, catch fish and priced very fairly..Have not fished them enough to develop confidence in them yet though which is the most important factor.

Rage Tail Challenge
Its all about what you have confidence in.. For me thats zoom super speed craws, super hogs, and brush hogs. The new Z Hog is an awesome little punching bait also. No doubt the rage line catches fish but I beleive its alot of hype driven by marketing which hey its good buisness I just cant bite on it when I have success and confidence in a bait that cost 2 bucks a bag less. I do love the coffee smell though I can't lie about that.. No disrespect here intended. Big O seems like a really cool dude who works hard and plays hard. Kind of like the RES..You think if KVD was using an XR50 he would have any less success? Dont think so, he may not even need to change the hooks. With all that said I almost bit on a bag of Watermelon Meat rage craws just b/c that color was intruiging but could not do it.

Cold Water Flippen
Beavers or super hogs for me t riged with a 1/8 or 3/16oz weight. If its really tough same set up with a finesse worm or french fry.
-
Sweet Beavers
Seems to me winter is the time you want to use them with the cooler water temps. I usually switch to something with more action as the water warms through spring and summer.
-
Zoom Z-Hog
It was primarily designed for punching. The nose of the bait is molded to match perfectly to a large punching weight for a nice streamlined profile. It has a pretty thick but soft body to hold a heavy punching hook very well also. For general pitching I will stick with a sweet beaver but for 4 bucks a bag i will use these for punching.

Looking For A Specific Color Swimbait
Same mold as the skinny dipper and plenty colors to choose from including blue gill. https://www.bittersbaitandtackle.com/naked-swimmer.html

Finesse Lures For Winter?
Try a weightless finesse worm or french fry worm with a split shot about 12" up the line and dead stick it.
-
Zoom Z-Hog
My new favorite bait for punching. Perfect profile and hold a Flipping hook very well.

Pitching
When I'm flipping I do not engage/dis engage the spool unless adjusting the amount of line I have out so I guess it would benefit there when doing so. Not being a smart **** just trying to understand the true benefit of the switch. So basically when flipping and I need to let additional line out I would not have to turn the reel handle to engage the spool after doing so. I can see where that would help. I flip with a left handed reel and usually when I let extra line out I quickly turn the reel handle a bit when the slack is out my line that was in my left hand so I guess it's not much of pain for me. If I flipped with a right hander I would have to switch the rod to my left hand just to re engage the spool by turning the reel handle then switch back. That would be a pain.

Pitching
Never understood why they call it a flippin switch. Seems it should be called a pitching switch being this is the technique you would use it for.

P Line Cx, Am I Missing Something Here?
Oh and for the record you can pull a truck with cxx but I cant get pass the memory issue. 100% flouro has less memory then cxx.

P Line Cx, Am I Missing Something Here?
I've made up my mind to stick with straight flouro or pure mono and stay away from the co polymers. Mono for topwater and flouro or braid for everything else.

How Many Rods Do You Have Rigged For Plastics?
Thanks for the replies. I fish mainly shallow water lakes and canals so flipping/pitching is usually what I'm doing the most of. I basically have a Frog Rod,Buzzbait rod, spinnerbait rod, crankbait rod then 6 or 7 rods rigged with jigs,tx rigs, weightless plastics most of the year. During the short period of colder months Dec-Jan when the water temps are below 58* the spinnerbait gets replaced with a chatterbait and my buzzbait rod gets rigged with a finesse jig. I usually will start throwing a lipless crank instead of a billed crank and my wacky worm rod gets rigged with a shaky head. We do not have very deep waters so the fish bunch up around any remaining cover and wood and head to the deeper canals which deep for us in the winter could be only 5 ft. Usually by late feb depending on the winter they will start eating top water baits again and begin staging to spawn.

Sunline Super Natural
Yes just like it but only thinner per lb test. I am a sufix fan as well. I think I will leave the 12# super natural on my top water/jerkbait rod and see how it holds up. Im using cxx for spinner baits, buzz baits, and cranks currently but not sure how much longer I can deal with the memory so may go back to Big Game or try the 20# super natural.
-
Sunline Super Natural
Has to be the smoothest feeling, best casting memory free line out there. I just cant trust it though as it seems so thin and fragile. I cant speek on its true toughness as I have not used it enough but I'm wishing maybe I would have went with higher lb test. The 12# feels more like 8#. Has anyone really put it to the test as far as strength?

How Many Rods Do You Have Rigged For Plastics?
I have 1 weightless plastic senko/fluke and 4 different rods rigged with tx rigs from 1/8 oz to 1oz for punching and also one rod dedicated to a wacky worm or shaky head. Thats 6 rods rigged at all times for fishing some sort of plastic. I use them all through out a fishing day depending on the cover and depth im fishing. How many rods do you keep rigged with plastics?

Seaguar Kanzen Braid
Give Sunlin FX2 a try. I've used 832 and Power Pro mostly and this is my favorite by far.
