Hey Pa mountain man, nobody knows where Clarington is. Where do you live?
-
rowboat?
I hear you about hitting deer. My parents home is in Clarington PA., and I'd bet they have hit a dozen or more deer in the last 25 years.

rowboat?
Loading the boat into the truck bed, you will have some overhang. Make sure to secure the boat well and red flag the end of it. Of course it's much easier to launch and recover any boat from a trailer and you can leave it fully loaded with gear etc. Look around and take your time and I'm sure you can find a decent trailer for a small boat for a very reasonable price. Other than your fishing buddy, I too would prefer to fish from a sit on kayak over an aluminum boat.

Where to buy tackle? Online, BPS, Cabela's, Walmart, Craigslist?
As a small business owner myself, I try to support local small business. A mile from my house is Fishermen's Choice Pro Shop. If I can get what I want there, I do. When I can't find what I want there I online catalog shop BPS first, then Cabela's.

2 piece rod advice needed...
Personally, I prefer 1 piece rods, but that's just me. All my rods are 1 piece except my 9 foot fly rods which are 2 pieces for obvious reasons. Many fly rods come in 4 or 6 pieces, I just prefer fewer joints (on the rod). Of course if you don't have a vehicle that can carry long rods then 2 or more pieces make sense. My fishing buddies use 2 piece rods with no complaints.

rowboat?
Great starter boat. An electric motor will push it around just fine. Go for it! I was born in Pennsylvania, what part do you live in?

just a general queastion. i guess
The boil you describe sounds like shad schools trying to escape predators, either stripers or largemouth.

Tying new line to spool?
Tie an overhand knot in the line and trim off excess. Than tie another overhand knot passing the tag end with the first overhand knot through the loop in the knot and spool your line. The line will tighten down on the first knot.

Safety moment
There was a photo a few months ago here on a local bass fishing website of a poor guy with a treble hook in his right eye. Same situation as you mentioned. It made me queezy to look at it.

internet testosterone or really the way folks think?
This pretty well sums it up. In Sams post he mentions the requirement of having an "escape" route. Arizona and Florida statutes have the Castle Doctrine which does not require you to flee from imminent danger. You may stand your ground in your home or in public, provided you abide by the above rules of engagement. Remember, even if you are within your rights, you will undoubtedly be sued by the "victim" or their family in civil court for shooting or killing the perpetrator. You will probably win the case, but it will cost you plenty monetarily. I possess a CCW and carry at all times, but I will only draw under the direst of circumstances. A guaranteed route to a very long prison sentence is planting a weapon on someone after a shooting. And never bring a non lethal gun (paintball etc.) into the equasion. The fleeing perp sees a weapon ,draws his own, and successfully defends himself because you produced a non lethal gun. If you draw a firearm, only do so with the intent of destroying your target.

jitterbug. replace with what hook size?
Absolutely!! Cut off the old hooks. Do not remove the hook hanger screws. Add the split rings then add the new hooks.

What do you think of this....
There are untrustworthy people out there. Unfortunately it seems that you have found one.

Keeping the Bugs Away
Is your lantern gas or battery/electric? If it's battery powered you can go to a large music store like Guitar Center and in the sound/lighting department ask for some amber colored spotlight gels. these are transparent colored film that is used to make colored stage lighting. Line the inside of your battery powered lantern with them and this will reduce the number of insects significantly. If it's gas powered you can not use them as they will catch fire.

Bats

HELP! 1970 60hp evinrude question
My 1967 Evinrude 80 has a hole about the diameter of a dime about a foot down from the cowling. Water shoots out of there like a faucet. If water isn't shooting out, it's not circulating. Muffs won't fit on my motor. I bought a stock water tank (for livestock) and fill it to test run my motor. A few seconds after startup, the water comes out so strong I can hear it hit the surface of the water from the driver seat.

night fishing tips
As summer temps here are normally 110 or higher, I've become a night time only fisherman during summer. Big plastic worms Carolina rigged, a big tube bait with 1/2 an Alka Seltzer in it to make bubbles, black Jitterbugs, shallow crank baits, and slow rolling spinnerbaits are good choices. I have mounted rod storage tubes to keep rods from getting stepped on. A headband light is a must! Happy fishing.

More Black Widow Fun
If it won't cause an obvious problem, when I find widow webs, I wait for dark, then soak a small rag in a flammable solvent and burn them out.

one piece vs. breakdown rod
All my rods are one piece except my 9 foot fly rods which are two piece for obvious reasons. I just prefer the least number of pieces possible.
