Swivel snaps on crankbaits
Just a plain wire snap, no swivel.

Catfish assistance.
I NEVER use chicken liver anymore. I like either frozen raw whole shrimp or even better, frozen squid. Make sure to thaw the bait before using. I get the squid at asian supermarkets. Caught my largest channel in February on squid. For flatheads I use only live bluegill. My terminal rigs are basically Carolina rigs. Oh, squid heads with the tentacles make GREAT jig trailers for bass fishing.

Now I Know!!!
It was 114 here today. Will be 115 for the rest of the week. How would you like to go fishing all day here? I normally go to the lake about daybreak and fish until about noon the next day. The only way to stay reasonably comfortable through the day is to take dips in the water as needed to keep from overheating. At times my partner and I have just sat in the boat looking at each other saying "man, I'm just too hot to fish". And this is in a boat with a bimini top providing shade. Then again 115 in the shade is still brutal. The overnight fishing is simply fabulous though.

Live bluegill as bait?
I've never used them for bass but they are the only bait I use for flathead catfish.

Anchor Line
Happy fishing.

Baitcast vs. Spinning
I carry 3 baitcast, 3 spinning, and 1 fly cast on my boat rigged with different lures. Light, medium, and medium heavy weight rods, and 6 weight fly rod. They each have their place and time. I also like the diversity. All are right hand retrieve.

Anchor Line
It has to do with the correct angle of your rode to allow the anchor to hold firmly and not pull loose or drag across the bottom in wind or current. If the anchor rode goes straight down in the water your anchor will not get a good bite on the bottom. The anchor shaft MUST lay flat on the bottom for the flukes to get a proper bite, therefore the chain and length formula of rode. I normally anchor for the night in @ 20 feet of water. I let out @ 80 feet of rode fore and @ 60 feet aft, bow into the current, or more frequently, the wind. If the wind is strong I'm not on the water anyway. These are anchoring rules I learned when I was a teenager fishing saltwater in Florida. This information can be found in the U.S.C.G. boating handbook. Sure you can get away with less under ideal conditions, but when you find yourself drifting when the wind comes up strong that's not a good time for "wish I had more rode". I'm not trying to be smart ***, just trying to give good advice from experience. Our reservoirs here in Arizona exceed 100 feet in depth. I certainly don't anchor in those depths, but striper fishing may easily be in 80 feet of water. I have 250 feet of rode on each anchor. Both are 10 pound "navy" type anchors. My boat is fiberglass, 16 feet long. Happy fishing.

Boat Covers
I made a skeleton framework in 2 pieces (fore and aft) from 3/4 inch PVC pipe.It is peaked in the middle (higher) with lower sides, and highest midships, lower fore and aft. I place a good quality canvas tarp over this framework and hold it down with bungie cords. You can buy a couple tarps for the cost of a fitted boat cover. This works very well for me.

Question about changing hooks???

Plecostomus are South American suckermouth armoured catfish imported for the aquarium trade. They feed primarily on algae but will eat just about anything.- Anchor Line
Correct formula. Also remember to add @ 5' of heavy chain between anchor and rode (the anchor line). The chain keeps the anchor arm down on the bottom so it's flukes can get a good bite. I anchor bow and stern when fishing overnight to keep boat from spinning on the anchor line and tangling fishing lines.- Carolina spinning rig? Your thoughts...
X2.- Polarized Sunglasses?
I too like Cocoons. I have the aviator frames in tortoise shell with copper lenses. They fit over my prescription glasses. The copper color lenses are great!- Best all around line
Personally, I like Trilene XL and use it in 8, 10, and 12 # test . On my channel cat reel I use Trilene XT in 16# and on my flathead cat reel Trilene XT in 50#.- Little things about your bass boat
Night fishing in Tennessee is common during the summer months but this type of lighting is against the law due to blinding other boaters. White light kills night vision and causes short term vision loss. While these type lights make your navigation safer it very well may endanger another boater. Please be careful with the use of these type lights.......................Al Yep. I'm aware of this. I always kill the headlights when encountering another boat and reduce speed to a crawl to anticipate their movement. You never know what someone else is going to do- Tail Pipe Underwater
That might be ok if all ramps were the same pitch. But, they are not. A much better indicator is the fenders of the trailer. If mine are even with the surface of the water, give or take an inch, then the boat can be driven onto the trailer. It must be a bit deeper for the boat to float off the trailer. Good point. I rarely launch anywhere but two lakes and their ramps are the same incline. Your advice is well taken though.- Little things about your bass boat
There are so many. I'll stick with one for now. Due to the extreme heat here in the summer, I do most of my fishing after dark. I installed a pair of 4" motorcycle headlights on either side of my bow. Makes moving from one spot to another much safer.- Fishing Shoes
It appears that I am a vanishing breed. I fish barefoot. Can't stand wearing footwear on the boat. I will wear up to 3 pair of socks though if the weather is cold enough to warrant it.- Weekend Flathead Cat
That's epic man. I once caught a 25 pound flathead while bass fishing with 12 pound test on a Quantum baitcast rod & reel. Only took about 20 minutes to boat it.- Tail Pipe Underwater
With my boat and truck, that's how I know I've backed up enough to launch. When I hear the "glub glub glub " of the exhaust, I know I'm there.- Zara Spooks Melting
One time here in Phoenix and you'd never forget again. You'd have a multicolored puddle in the bottom of your tacklebox.- early morning catfishing
bwell has some good advice. For channel cats, I like to bait with frozen whole raw shrimp or frozen squid purchased at an asian supermarket . If you have sandy flats, I'd search there. Next, upcurrent on the lip of dropoffs. Keep the bait on the top of the lip. Happy catfishing!- Jitterbug hooks
I'm using red Owner's.- Your biggest "non" bass specie's while fishing for bass!
How did you snap off a 4 inch alligator?- Locking up your Boat
In my driveway my car is parked in front of my truck which is parked in front of my boat. My dog barks at ANY noise outside. She can also clear my 6' wall. She'd be going ballistic while going over the wall if someone was messing with the boat. I'll then perform a well armed mopping up operation. - Weird Fish Please Tell
