  1. I think some of you misread the title of this topic. It does not say "Please explain why you don't eat bass" or "What fish do you like better than bass".
  2. Shimano. I need to get my post count up.
  3. flyfisher, I did the exact thing you are talking about last summer. I picked up a "Du-Bro Screw-In Rod Holder" from Cabelas. I painted 2 short pieces of 3/4"x2" pine (about 7" long) and screwed the loops and hooks into it with about 1" between them. To the rear roll bar I used black zip ties to attach the peice of wood with the larger loops on it. I just used double sided tape to stick the other peice with the hook-like parts. You won't be able to see them, but I added wedges to the back block to have it sit level on the roll bar. I also notched the large loops to make it easier to get the butt ends in. The photos I took of it are too large to post. I can email them to you if you want to see what the finished product looks like. TB
  4. From a few different articles I've read, this soda/citric acid trick is not true. Just dropping the injured bass back in the lake is supposed to be better for it than keeping it out of the water and dumping sugarwater down it's throat. Anyone have scientific info on this?
  5. That should not happen, no matter how much line you put on. The levelwind should distribute it evenly across the spool. Did you get a few "over-runs" where you made slack or loops in the line around the spool?
  6. Agreed. Weightless is the best, but sometimes you need to get them down in the water column where the fish are. In these instances, a 1/8 oz. screw nosed swimbait hook is a great option. I love the white ones dipped in various colors/patterns of JJ's Magic.
  7. If you can post a picture of the boat we might be able to give you more advice.
  8. I was afraid I would need to replace it. That's 20 bucks I don't have right now. I will try to clean the pins with vinegar or something else I already have laying around. No sense spending an extra $10 on a spray that won't do the job and then another $20 on a new wire too. Thanks.
  9. I want to purchase screw-in swim bait hooks to use with these Rage baits. My lake is very shallow so I will probably stick with 1/8 oz. hooks but I'm wondering what size hooks to get. Can anyone who fishes these baits regularly let me know what you use 3/0, 4/0, 5/0?
  10. My Humminbird fishfinder will not power up this year. I checked the wiring and it all looks good. I noticed that the pins in the connector are corroded and green. Does anyone know of a spray or soak that will clean these up and get this working again?
  11. I'm thinking about making a pipe holder for my boat to quickly stow my pipe when I have a fish on. I have the standard folding plastic seats with the tool tray attached to the side. I'm thinking about attaching a short piece of 1" PCV pipe to the tool tray but I need to put a notch or somthing in it to keep the pipe upright. Anyone tried this or have any suggestions?
  12. Go for the excerpt (reading) from the book rather than a short clip from the movie.
  13. Youtube "Francisco D'Anconia's speech on money from Atlas Shrugged".
  14. Another vote for the 2500 Symetre.
  15. stomping on the ice is not a fool-proof method of checking the safety/thickness of ice. spend a few extra minutes drilling, chopping or chipping a few holes to make sure you have at least 3 or 4 inches before heading out on the ice and double check near underwater springs to make sure ice is safe over them too.
  16. Another rod that has not been mentioned yet is the Fewick Elite Tech Smallmouth. By far the best rod I own right now. I never get into the boat without it and I rarely put it down.
  17. What are the dates for the show? I'd love to bring my kids next year.
  18. I've been catching a lot of fish this fall on an X-rap at around 3 feet in 5 feet of water. Water temp is in the very low 40s. I was looking for a suspending swimbait that I could use at this depth that I could fish really slowly with frequent stops. I came across the Megabait Charlie and was wondering if anyone has tried it and if it is any good.
  19. Yes. It's like a butcher shop. If you've ever seen The Soprano's, they hang out in a pork store called Satriale's.
  20. I went to the supermarket last night (a pretty big Pathmark) and they don't have scrapple. I don't want to miss out on anything so I'll keep looking. Maybe I'll hit the pork store.
  21. I'm from the north east and I don't know anyone who has ever eaten scrapple.
  22. "I was happy to see Judy Dench killed off" You could have probably gotten your review in without spoiling that part for those of us who haven't seen it yet.
  23. I am. I went a little overboard last year and purchased all new jigging rods, tip-ups, a sled, 2000 gram boots etc. and couldn't get anywhere near my local lake. I had to drive to Vermont for a weekend just to try it all out. All I've heard this fall is how cold and how much snow we're going to get this winter and I can't wait. It's hard to explain to you guys down south, but there is something special about walking out on a lake, crunching through the snow to get to your spot setup and having coffee while the sun comes up. We go out in a big group and setup a grill and chairs and have breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner out on the ice. The kids love it too and they are not confined to a boat all day. Plenty of space for them to run around.
