  1. Once the vendor takes an item to the local post office you are at the mercy of several go betweens. The local PO's sorting facility, incoming USPO sorting facility, customs, outbound sorting facility, your local PO sorting then out for delivery. I don't know exactly how customs inspects packages, I believe it to be a random check. I've had packages sail right thru and packages from the same vendor wrapped indentically returned to sender. No doubt they are checking for contraband.
  2. I've had packages come from all over the world 2 times month for years. Norm for me is about 2 weeks, has happened is 6 days as well as 1 month +. When they do get held up the tracking will say held in sorting facility (both country of origin and USPS) or held in customs, never have seen "held for inspection". Only you are looking at the tracking #, no way an individual can speed up the process. It comes when it comes and sometimes an item gets returned to sender, doubt that would happen with a reel.
  3. The size of the swivel is irrelevant, it's the size of the spit ring that's on the swivel. Need to make sure the egg weight is just resting on the split ring, don't want the ring to get stuck in the hole. That split ring size can vary from brand to brand given the same overall swivel size.
  4. Don't want a b/c, spinning couldn't pick just 2, not always at the same venue or targeting same species. 6'6 clarus 6/12 med, supreme 30, freshwater 7'6 Star s.l. 12/12 mh, cabo 40, inshore from sea walls and jettys 7'6 Redbone 8/17 med, soron 40 beach fishing
  5. For both freshwater and inshore fishing I cut my leaders from P-line Floroclear and Big game. I do use real leader offshore. In all 3 venues I have given F/C leaders, I saw no benefit over mono leaders.
  6. Any species of fish that has the potential to reach 40-50" and bigger are specifically targeted.
  7. Sounds like you have a nice little fishery, I'd fish it without making an issue. If the owner wants the other people gone, it's up to him to ask them to leave. You do run the risk of the owner saying I don't anyone there from now on. Just fish it and and enjoy, you're liable to kill it for yourself.
  8. I don't care what someone does with their fish, it's theirs and it's their business and not mine. They can release it, they can eat it, they can mount it or have a replica made. I'm not interested in starting a dialogue over who has better ethics, a confrontation over a fish is something I don't need. I'm also not there to offer a tutorial on how to cast a rod and reel. I am there to be friendly and to be of assistance if asked. Those are the times when I stop fishing to help, I'd just as soon see "novice" catch a 5# bass as do it myself, then look at the beaming smile on his/her face, makes my day. The freshwater fishermen do not pull out any where near the numbers of the saltwater bucket guys that I see. I have no use for the guys that fish a chicken rig catching 2-3 at a time, then begging me for what I'm catching. Those saltwater guys don't use buckets, they take coolers and 50 fish every day isn't rare. The freshwater guy sitting in one spot looking to catching few fish, more than happy to give up what I catch.
  9. I suppose the meaning is relative to where you're at. On a bass forum an artificial user will almost always look down their nose at fisherman on the bank fishing using bait. Keeping the fish isn't the issue, it's how the fish are caught and the equipment being used is what creates the elitism. How possibly can a guy using nightcrawler be on the same level as "angler" with 5 $500 combos and enough tackle to stock a small tackle store.
  10. I'm going to give you an alternative. Being a saltwater lure you may not be familiar with a Bomber Windcheater, comes in 2 sizes, a 4.5" and 6" priced 8-9 bucks. Very sturdy well built lure, one of the most durable I use. I mainly use them saltwater but I have used them in fresh with success. If you are pattern concious the Green Mackerel looks good for freshwater use, my personal favorite is white with a red head.
  11. Storm chug bug Zoom fluke Rapala flat rap
  12. I use a leader for everything, frogs included.
  13. ^Sums it up well.^ You can always try industrial parks or ponds and canals in some of the shopping areas. Generally the worst case scenario is just being asked to leave, it's hit and miss with security. A residential area is a different story.
  14. For vacation purpose I wouldn't worry about anything. For sure rinse after you're outing, if by the beach sand is your worst enemy. Bass lures are fine, I wouldn't worry about rust too much, except on the hooks. I might be more concerned being cut off from a mackerel or cuda.
  15. Moonfish, aka lookdowns, are as thin as wafer, they get filleted all the time here.
  16. There are a few definitions for a bucket fisherman. A bank bait fisherman sitting on his bucket. A person that keeps their catch and the bucket is the vehicle to transport them back to the car. A person that carries their lures hanging from the lip of a bucket, just as popular as a tackle bag here. Been known to carry a bucket myself.
  17. Question can't be answered as the OP hasn't mentioned what he wants to buy spinning or casting. I do realize in his clarification post he already has a b/c and spinning set up but that does not clarify his objective for a new purchase. I'm going to assume by combo he means buying a separate rod and reel as opposed to a manufacturer"s combo. I don't make brand recommendations per se, but I would buy 1 combo to start before making a second selection. Your opinion may change on what you want or think you need for the second.
  18. This post is about as close to the way I fish. Nothing is wrong, it's all personal preference. I fish nothing but spinning using braid and leaders about 20-25". I'm not in the least bit bothered by any braid noise, don't even notice it, I have tried 8 carrier and all I can say is no big deal for me. The proof is in the pudding, what do we catch. In my case I'm catching tarpon, snook, jacks and barracuda on 15 or 20# braid, Florida size bass and peacocks on 10 & 15# braid. I don't overly concern myself with rods, reels and line, although thru experimentation I'm using what I prefer. I do concern myself with my knots, IMO the most important aspect in landing any fish.
  19. I like this approach, my set up is slightly different. I have an inexpensive 5'6 Berkley ul with the backbone of an over boiled noodle, that's what puts the fun into it. The reel is a trion 20 old style about 8 years old, I swear it's my smoothest reel too, not crazy about the wood knob. I use a light braid fish only open water ponds, use a top water close to 90% of the time. Pictures can lie so I won't post about 15 I caught that were over 22-23", I would never have thought a bass could pull out that much line, this coming from a tarpon fisherman. Given the choice 5# bass on ul or 10# on mh gear, the ul wins 100% of the time.
  20. Yes you can in South Florida. If Walmart was the only place to shop here there is enough stock to catch fish. A small selection yes but I can buy xraps, bomber lures, mirrorlure, spoons, bucktails, plastics and jig heads. Power pro and decent enough rods and reels.
  21. You may want to buy a fighting belt.
  22. My dad taught me a lot, he passed away 23 years ago and wasn't a saltwater fisherman to the extent I am. I'm pretty much self taught in salt, I've taken what learned and applied to bass fishing, it's served me well. A good fisherman can catch any kind fish in any place, just have to learn the nuances of the species.
  23. If the bite were really bad I might put a senko on, something I've done maybe 2-3 times in the last 12 months. Quite often I start off with a roostertail, not a bad fish catcher at all won't go skunk too often. On some of the toughest days I 'll go to a top water, may not catch much but sometimes I surprise my self with a really nice fish.
