  1. The only negative about my trion is the older wood knob, that I'm not crazy for.
  2. When it comes to fishing, I have no problems. I will always catch fish, if not today then tomorrow. Big or small fish just being out there is euphoria(the name of my Tripp 30 sailboat). Have fun, without pressuring yourself is the key to eliminate problems, I personally don't give a hoot about the next great lure, technique or rods and reels, I just go fishing, like golf you play the ball where it lies.
  3. Probably a brackish water fish, I'd rule out tarpon and snook, they hit more like a bass, engulf the bait. A snapper(cubera) woulnd't surprise me. Slashers like pike, cuda mackerel hit very hard, my off the wall guess.
  4. don't know offhand, probably the same cause for each event
  5. some people may overlook disposing the cut off tag, I know I'm no perfect ever time.
  6. been digging some of the alaskan reality shows, old movies on TMC, and political shows.
  7. tough week, you earned the right to have a few vodkas, don't worry about the rod.
  8. Zero..............I use one until I do catch a fish, eventually they all catch fish. For the most part, I take 3-5 lures with me on outing. Roosterrail, spoon, jerkbait, topwater and marabou jig.
  9. I'd rate the top name brands a tie. When I pop and pause, most of my bass are caught on the pause or at rest with little water being pushed. I happen to like Storm chug abug. In salt I move my top water at a constant retrieve, a 20 mph fish with teeth or strong jaws(bluefish) I like a poppadog, very durable lure with excellent hooks. A poppa dog, can be popped, steady retrieve, or walked.
  10. If I were fishing one of those areas, my first thought is my target species, my rod selection comes first. For me it would be med or ml for bass and peacocks, mh for freshie snook and tarpon. My lure of choice would be the same for all, fluke rigged weedless as it can be fished close to the shoreine or more open water, pot luck fishing.
  11. These are the kind of stories I like to read. Tells me every thing I need to know about fishing pressure. Pressure is merely 2 or more people fishing in close proximity, some one will catch may as well be you Pressure is having a built in excuse for not catching. Let other people get intimidated by your presence, not you by their presence.
  12. No question about it.
  13. I lost track of the days, thought yestreday was Sunday, just took my wife out to eat an watched PGA chanmpionship on TV. Didn't really have the urge to fish. Did get a few phone calls from my homeboys at he ocean, it's a hot bite, I"m not physically ready for that kind of action.
  14. Not worth the time and energy to send a rod in or wait for a tip to be shipped for DIY. For 5 minutes of time and 5 bucks a local shop can have me fishing with virtually no downtime.
  15. Of the 20 some odd spinning reels I have my 29 or 39 dollar trion20 is about my smoothest, which is around 8 years old don't remember if it's been oiled. Some of my $200+ reels don't perform as well. When I"m playing with small reels in the store I seem to always go back to an inexpensive MItchell.
  16. The forcast a part of my inhome prep work for target species and headed location, gives me an idea of what to expect. On the big water rough weather can be seen probably 50 miles, can go around it or come in, make sure I'm not but a few mile offshore. Weather danger is my biggest concern. Fishing wise, I've decided on the tackle for day before I head out. The phone is pretty much used only to make or receive important calls, my wife would notccall unless it very important.
  17. Closer to equator, the worse rhe burn. Winter is worse than summer.
  18. this rod........sg8/17ft70g ml to heavy. A step up is the seagis sk817ft70g. Longest casting rods I own, ml for bass mh for tarpon. I returned 3 st croixs for these rods.
  19. same fish, same bithmark on the lip caught at the same spot with the same lure. The exif data may show they were caught a day apart.
  20. Hooked weedless and tossed underhand with a 6' rod.
  21. Key West, December 1975. Went sailfishing for 4 hours, stayed out 8. got blistered and was in agony for days. A male Cuban nurse named Manuel introduced me to Aloe which was growing in the backyard. 100% intstant relief. Sun screen should be used, I don't like being covered up when I'm fishing, except a hat.
  22. I'd put a new tip on, for a short time fix super glue might work.
  23. first fish100# amberjack, about 15 margate snapper over 20#, topped it off with bevy of bull dolphin, all on spinning gear. Another day 2 back to back lemons in the 150# area caught with 25# class boat rod with a spheros 8000. multiple outings catching tarpon on fly. Favorite all time catch, permit that I ran down on foot 300 yds, paced it off later in the day. Favorite time, watching my son in law land a 5# jack off the beach, as an expriernced fishermen he couldn't believe a fish so small could fight so hard, my best moment ever.
  24. I've used senkos as well as knockoffs, all pretty much he same to me. I may use them only a few times a year, that brand of fishing doesn't excite me. A senko type bait is used only in emergency situation to avoid being skunked. If one is spending lot of money on their rod, reel and line why get cheap for a few bucks if you think the more expensive brand will work better for you. The object of the exercise is to catch fish.
