A gun, like a car, or a knife or a baseball bat needs someone to operate it, for it to be capable of destruction. A gun cannot think, feel, nor act on its own. It cannot get angry or hold resentment. We should be discussing mental illness and the breakdown of society and the family unit if trying to come up with a solution to violence.

School shootings, workplace shootings, mass shootings, and terrorist attacks defy statistics. They defy predictability. The above, paired with this crazy idea that the internet has brought about, that everyone's opinion matters, has changed our society. 3 months ago my local shopping mall had some whack job drive his SUV thru Sears and then drive thru the mall ramming the vehicle into every storefront he could. I'd rather not be a statistic.

I've got all sorts of stories about the things I have seen and gone thru living and working in a major metropolitan area. Fortunately in my 50 years on this earth, I have made it thru every situation without having to brandish a weapon. I'm hoping to make it thru the next 50 years the same.

The huge number of people being shot killed in the US are being slaughtered by people they know or, as a direct result of some type of criminal activity they are involved with. @A-Jay touched on criminals looking for victims. Looking for easy targets. So many people walk and drive around unaware of the things that are going on outside their happy space. That makes for easy targets. The first thing taught in a ccw firearms training/safety course is to avoid/remove yourself from the situation. If that's not an option, then remove the threat. I'm always people watching. I've been doing it my entire life. If I get a funny feeling about something I see, I will avoid it. I have spent years working in some of the crappiest neighborhoods in Chicago. Knowing HOW to act in the crappy neighborhoods is key to avoid violent confrontation. That is something that cannot be taught. It must be learned. In the early 90's I was robbed twice at gunpoint. I managed a quicklube in Chicago and was robbed at 2 different stores. Being on the wrong side of the barrel is a horrible feeling. Had my coked out stripper neighbor barge into my apartment attack and threaten to kill my wife. I had a gun in the apartment but it was not on my person. I threw her down the stairs before calling the police. I moved to the suburbs 20 years ago and stopped working in Chicago 3 years ago. Now, about the worst I have to deal with, in the neighborhoods I work and frequent, is drug addicts. Most are harmless, but you never know. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Hopefully the doctors get to the bottom of things quickly. You may still be able to drive. Years ago an electrician friend of mine had a seizure while driving his service van. Fortunately the only damage was to the van he was driving. He was put on seizure meds and was able to get back behind the wheel 6 months later. For him to drive legally, he must continue to take the meds and see his doctor twice a year for the rest of his life. If he ever has another seizure while he's on the meds, he's done driving for good. Think it's been 10 years now seizure free.

This The other thing noticeable in Great Lakes smallies is they tend to be shorter than their warm water counterparts. They grow in girth quicker than in length. A 6-7 pound class smallie might only be 20"-21" long and built like a football. These genetics might also be why we don't see DD smallies from northern waters. My PB from Sturgeon Bay weighed over 6 and measured almost 23" and on the same trip we caught multiple 5 pound + class fish in the 20" range.

We had a mouse in the store a couple months ago. I call corporate and tell the purchasing girl I need some mouse traps. She orders humane traps from Amazon and has them sent to the store. I call her back and tell her to get me real mousetraps and I send her a link. In the mean time, I set the humane traps with peanut butter. Come in the following day and find a dead mouse 6 feet from the humane trap. Only thing I can figure is he looked at the trap and laughed himself into a heart attack.

Just a guess but you are probably running a group 24 or 27 battery. Get a group 31 deep cycle battery. It weighs about twice as much. It costs about twice as much. It will give you considerable more run time.

Fishing time is going to be limited. We're staying at the Holiday Inn Resort on Raccoon Lake in Kissimmee. My plan is to shore fish with my grandson in-between the plans the wife and daughter have made.

I've been keeping it in the console if I have to. Comes in the house every night. I just don't want to be "that guy" that left an unsecured firearm in the vehicle that got broken into. In IL, there are a ton of places I cannot legally carry. Whether I choose to carry in these places is another story. I cannot carry at work and I'm not willing to risk my employment. While I'm not worried about vehicle tampering at my place of employment, there is always a chance that someone might break into the truck, I've had vehicles broken into in the past. It's a crappy feeling.

I love bourbon. The glass, not so much. Think I'd prefer a rocks glass with a bass (or some other fish) etched in it rather than a generic Daredevil. I have a Rapala coffee mug with a bass on it and I drink coffee every day from it. I might consider drinking bourbon every day from a glass with a bass etched on it.

After 9 months of battling with cancer, chemo, and inches away from death, I found out yesterday that mom is cancer free. Mom was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in the lining of her heart back in April of this year. The chemo d**n near killed her. At one point she fell into sepsis shock and could have passed at any point. She still has some battles to fight, but the prognosis is good. Not looking for sympathy/empathy, just looking to share. Talking about it helps me through it. I spoke with her today. Told her she was stuck with me for a little bit longer and she retorted that I'm stuck with her a little bit longer.

I would enjoy that view year round
