Skill Or Luck
A properly placed bait trumps all. Call it skill, call it luck, call it divine intervention. I don't care. The results are the same. Skill allows me to identify the places to throw the correct bait under certain conditions. Luck is the gamble that a fish is at that spot under those conditions. Divine intervention is...well...only God knows.

Battery Charging?
No, I think your misunderstanding it. That charger mounts permanently to the boat and the batteries. You plug the charger into an extension cord. You have a couple options. Minn Kota makes a charger that will charge the trolling motor batteries off the boats alternator while you're running from spot to spot http://store.minnkotamotors.com/products/690312/MK_3_DC_%283_bank%29 You can always remove the batteries which is a PITA. I keep my boat in storage as well. I pic it up the night before I go out and plug it in over night. I also believe someone makes an inverter kit so you could plug an onboard charger into a receptacle on the tow vehicle. To get the most out of the batteries, they need to be charged fully after each use, and topped off before the next use.

Where are all the Illinois Guys ?
Mark, I emailed you a $2 off coupon for the Schaumburg show. If anybody else wants it PM me your email.

Where are all the Illinois Guys ?
Probably. I did Rosemont last year because I was boat shopping. Looks like Schaumburg is growing and has a better lineup of speakers. Ike puts on a good seminar. I saw him a few years back at Rosemont. I like Zona. Don't know if I can stomach Mercer. Maybe he's different in person than on the show. He's too animated for me. Reminds me of Fish Fishburne

How Cold Where You Are?
If the pipes are frozen, I'd recommend shutting the water off at the main, opening the faucets, crank up the heat, and if you can find where they are frozen hit it with a hair dryer(not literally)

Indoor Fishing??
Ever heard of a trout in a swimming pool? They're at just about every fishing show, and they do it at some of the public pools as fund raisers before they open for the season.

How Old Is Too Old
I also have a couple Silaflex rod. Pre Browning era that were my grandfathers. These haven't seen action since the early 70's. The spinning set up has 2 blanks and the casting set up has one. From what I gather these rods are from the 1950's, and were top dollar rods costing over $100 a piece at that time. My grandfather taught me how to use a bait caster in the early 70's on a stainless steel rod. My how things have changed.
