Pipefitter is a good trade to get into if you can make it in the door. Guaranteed work it is not. The better quality work the shop does, the more hours you will work. Service guys work more than construction, and refrigeration service guys generally work more than anyone else in the trade. I'd imagine journeyman's scale in NY is similar to here in Chicago $45-$50hr on the check with another $20-$25hr on the back end. As far as the application process, they were not giving you the runaround. In Chicago, once the application is accepted, they sign you up to take the aptitude test which is given once a year, and something like the top 5% or 10% are accepted. Your other options include getting hired at a union shop as a parts driver or similar to get in the door or get experience at a non union shop and apply at a union shop having them sponsor you in. I use 55lb Diawa Samurai and run into pike and musky and never have problems with the line. They have a tendency to destroy bass lures.

The HB units are a little more user friendly in my opinion, but the extent of my Lowrance experience is playing with the units at Cabelas. Had a 798c SI on the last boat and have a 998 SI and 858 HD on the new one. I looked at the Lowrance Touch 12" this past Saturday at BPS and spoke with a Lowrance rep who was completely worthless. He was pushing the "everything's connected" technology, but when I asked him why his product is superior to HB he really didn't have an answer. It appears that Lowrance has more product line options than HB but how many are really needed on a bass boat is up for discussion. I could see Lowrance as a more viable option for offshore applications, for bass fishing I'm not sure there's much difference.

Make sure your trailer is locked to the receiver hitch while you're on the water. I've heard stories where guys have come back to the ramp and the trailer is missing. Bring your gear in the hotel at night and keep your lockers open so they don't destroy them. A Loc-R-Bar is no match for the winch strap on the trailer. It may deter the amateurs but not the pros. I had the boat broken into once. I forgot to remove 2 tackle bags. Came down in the morning and the cover was undone and bags gone.

Anybody going to grab some popcorn and watch the follies at the ramp this weekend? The ol' lady knows holiday weekends are for her and not for fishing. On the weekends, I'm normally off the water by the time the yahoo's show up. The water skiers are out early as well because once the traffic starts they're done too.

I guess that depends on what brand of reel you are looking at. Shimano's run 10-15lbs max depending on the model and ABU's are 20-22lbs max depending on model. Ardent flipnpitch reels are set at 22lbs with no adjustment. Lews are on the low end similar to Shimano. Personally, I use Ardent F500's for jigs and punch rigs and heavier cover. I use Revo STX's for soft plastics and light to no cover applications. I have the thought process "I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it" Edit: The rod is more important than the reel for this technique
