i have always closed the bell manually. always... ill keep working with it and see what happens. i have some hybrid in 6 and 8lb clear on hand so ill be switching to that and trying the flukes out for sure. thanks fellas (i may use the swivel idea as well)
  2. i have the same issue as well. i am learning more about tossing cranks and not getting them hung up. you are going to lose a few bud but the more you practice the better you will get at the "feel" my question is, if you get hung, how do you get it out without a lure puller? i hate getting caught up on the first cast bc i have to get the boat in there to get it out and it ruins the spot for a bit know what i mean?
  3. i rarely texas rig vertically unless i am bumping into a lot of rocks or debri. i like the weight keeping constant contact with the bottom. if i go a bit and not catching using a sweeping motion i have been known to go vertical
  4. From North Carolina, dude I figured most of the student body would be outdoorsmen. I remember reading about a European country that made ti illegal to sport fish, since it was considered cruel to trick fish and hook them. So if you were fishing as a catch and release fisherman you would be committing a crime, since you were maliciously hurting fish by hooking them for your pleasure. Although, I occasionally run across women, haven't met a man yet, that use that line of reasoning. i thought the same till i started working at UNC. UNC is probably the only school in the state that is this liberal. well unc- ashville would be the other. there are some outdoorsmen but most are the blind voting liberal hypocrit kind. dont get me wrong its still a great school just not for outdoorsmen ;D
  5. never had an issue fishing now hunting is a different story. i work at a very liberal university (shouldnt be too hard to guess) and there are tons of liberal @#$%@'s that go to school there. one day on the bus going home i mentioned that i bow hunt.. it was on from there. the looks, the scorns heck one almost tried to spit on me. it wasnt good

so how do we prevent them? periodically taking the line off the spool and reel it back in?
  7. Redhed replied to Brian4618's topic in Fishing Tackle

why the swivel? just curious and never heard of the white ice but ill keep my eyes open for them. where you fish in NC A few reasons... 1) to prevent/minimize line twist 2) add a weight 3) (and this one proposed by Senko77 last week) a flashy swivel gives the appearance that the fluke is chasing something makes sense to me.. why is it that my spin rods are notorious for line twist? esp on weightless lures. i know i am spooling correctly. :-/

  11. Redhed replied to Brian4618's topic in Fishing Tackle
yeah the blades! do you guys use the 2.3. or 4 bladed buzz baits? i have a little of all. seems like the 2 is better for calm days and ponds and the 3 and 4 blades more for windier situations on lakes. what do you guys think?
  12. so is that paca crawl hook on top of the bait or under it?
  13. well since they can be finicky and fragile, you slide up next to her, gently, to where her back is infront of your chest. gently place your arm around her. remember not to bear hug bc that species is a delicate one (unless you have one of those wild ones that no one can tame) but give it a gentle sqeeze and relax. after that you are on your own............................................. oh fishing, ok i cant help you
  14. hmm worms - no matter what the tail - watermelon red, watermelon, pumpkin see with chart tail, black and my favorite junebug lizards, same as above but the fatter and shorter the better brush hogs weightless in any color just about

so pearl whites and all shad colors should do well? i have some 6lb hybrid sitting around from my last order. i will spool up a 7ft spin rod for it and give it a wurl thanks fellas
  16. ill give a cheap tip.. gotta bookbag laying around your house from back in the college days? if so, use it. i love it. it can fit all you need for you day of fishing plus water or whatever drink you prefer. i wouldnt know what to do without it. i have some areas that require a lot of walking and woods walking and the back pack stays on my back at all times.. love it
  17. thats awesome bud! congrats to you and your son. keep in mind you set the example and he is falling in line, great job
  18. if a snake finds his way into the boat, he is a dead snake (thats if i stay in the boat ) i dont mind them just not in the same boat as me.
  19. what really chaps my hide is when you fish with a guy ( in my case my cousin) and its the first year you two really fish together on a boat together. he caught a lot of big bass compared to me. my reason is bc i tried different things that i didnt do in years before (like more crankbaiting and etc) and so therefore i caught less big fish and really it was the worst year of lake fishing i have ever had and perhaps his best.. well his head is very swollen. dont get me wrong he is a good fisherman and very persistant but doesnt it drive you nuts when someone has a good fishing season and then claims themelves as a pro fisher man?. i mean i cant tell him nothing without him throwing that back in my face. he toots his horn and toots it loud. i kinda hope he has a bad year just to deflate that swollen head. he is the same with deer hunting. i guess he has to toot his horn in order to boost his morale or something. but its extremely annoying >
  20. does boat insurance cover the the loss of the rods and such?
  21. Redhed replied to Redhed's topic in Fishing Tackle
awesome thanks guys.. what colors yaw like?
  22. I am sure this has been covered more times than Michael Jackson's face but for some reason my searches have came up short. How do you guys fish flukes? I know you can use weighted hooks, weightless, texas rigged blah blah.. that i know. what i am not sure of is how you fish them? cast and allow to sink to the bottom and twitch it back to the boat or what? as far as weightless goes where do you fish them? along weed lines? shallows? as for weighted, what weight is best or is it a wind situation? higher the wind the more weight? sorry for asking the basics but i never really fished one.
  23. any of you use Carolina Lunker Sauce? if so which flavor?
  24. I'm no expert... not even remotely close to an expert on this subject so this is just my personal opinion from reading and personal experience... The difference between cheap glasses and expensive glasses is not the polarization. Polarized is polarized and both will net you the same benefit. The advantage to the more expensive glasses is the degree of UVB and UVA protection. You dont wear sunglasses JUST for the benefit of seeing in the water or I should say you "shouldnt". Protecting your eyes should be your primary concern - seeing better in the water a distant second. One other thing to think about - if you buy cheap glasses you'll treat them like cheap glasses and probably be replacing them constantly. How many pair of glasses at 15 bucks each does it take to add up to 1 decent pair of glasses that last longer and will offer you more protection? B it should be common knowledge that the cheaper the sunglasses the more harm to your eyes. i no longer buy cheap sunglasses. most eye dr's will tell you the same thing. in fact they could be worse for you than not wearing any at all
  25. not to say you are wrong but i used KVD as i lined new line on my spin rods and yes the coiling is still there and it did not go away after a few casts. i fished for a few hours with the same rods and the line actually feels stiffer than fresh out of the spool. just something i have noticed and the line i use is a copolymer. i will try different ways with KVD but over all i am not impressed so far. this could change. btw the coils never relaxed. OK, now spray your line on the spools with the KVD and let it dry. And then you will see a big change for the better! LOL i DID! i did it just like all you guys say. plus i pretreated the line as i spooled it on my reel just like most of you have mentioned. i will keep messing with it.
