  1. hey when do you guys really focus on getting out and fishing. i know some dont bc its still cold around these parts this time of year. what kind of weather do you guys really focus on? constant days of 50+ to get the water temps up? also when have you noticed that the pre-spawn bass bite really drops off? mid may? late may early june? or sooner? thanks guys!
  2. last year i used suffix elite and the other (not deep crankin) in 14lb test and yes the line is strong but at that test lbs it was stiff and had memory issues. the KVD LL may have helped that. i wont get that high of lbs line again thats for sure.
  3. If you look closely, the bearing is most likely shielded, not sealed. DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE THE SHIELD. There is usually a small notch in the flanged shield, and this is the ideal location to place a drop of high grade oil. You may need a magnifying glass to see it. you can also simply fill the outermost channel in the shield, and oil will eventually get in there. One other thing, some Floogers use NMB or NHBB (New Hampshire Ball bearinf) and the shields have six or more notches, so just place the oiil on the side. you can just put the oil right on the ball bearings on a Shimano A-RB. oh ok... i took my cheapo Shakespeare Agility (yes its a POS but i didnt buy it) and was trying to figure out how to oil the bearings bc everytime i cast its ZZZZZ so i ordered some of real mech's oil and grease but couldnt figure out how to oil the bearings correctly (as in how much to use and how to get it in there)
  4. use a wet polamar knot and you should be fine. most other knots (to me) break off easier.. always inspect line esp if you have been over rocks, wood and whatever that can scratch or fray the line. also after a few hook ups tie another knot. using these tricks have helped me out with flouro... personally i do not use flouro that often. the price keeps me from it. i like to use a smaller diameter mono (zuri hybrid) seems to be a good choice with the diameter to strength ratio.
  5. original poster, how do you put oil in those bearings?? looks sealed to me or tight enough where oil wont get in or am i totally wrong. never done this
  6. i dont make a habit out of doing it. esp is its a really nice size girl ill let her go. however on occasion i do keep one and i fry the eggs up.. its good stuff.
  7. redish rattle traps, plastics slow, slow cranks one thing i like to do is use deep diving cranks in shallow water. slow roll it (due to lack of better terms) allow the bill to bounce off the bottom .pause and start.. slow. this works for me year round if they are shallow of course

i have tried YUM products and i swear i cannot tell a difference at all in using that or not using anything. Carolina lunker sauce i have heard works pretty well. the only two flavors i ever see are gawlick and crawdad. who uses garlic as a scent?
  9. what weight and color would you recommend for salt water (shore fishing)? same for catfishing. thanks again
  10. so i was thinking of getting some of the 20lb for saltwater spinning reels. is it too stiff a line to use at that test for spinning gear? also what color is best for salt? camo green, clear or smoke?
  11. I find this pretty interesting and it certainly addresses the question posed. However, I don't think it has to be that complicated: Power fishing = baitcaster = Yo-Zuri Hybrid #12 Finesse fishing = spinning tackle = Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 8-) i can agree with that. i think a lot of folks really key in on the extreme technical stuff about fishing and get their brains racked with so much info they take the fun out of fishing. imo... on top of that you spend a lot more money. i dunno i have noticed with myself that the more technical i get with fishing the less i catch. maybe its luck or maybe all of this thinking and analyzing is keeping me from using common sense and what i have learned in the past for my own lakes and ponds. just something i noticed, i am sure its not true for everyone else
  12. i dont use much flouro. i use flouro as leaders for Crigs and maybe deep crankin' and braid as the main line. for everything else its mono either 14lbs or less. i aim for around 10lb test if i can get by with it. seems like the heavier the mono the less fish i catch. dunno why that is. well the main lake i fish is somewhat clear. not mountain clear.
  13. the CXX is really strong stuff.i watched my cousin reel in a 25lb carp on 12lb pline CXX. he wrestled that thing (not lightly) for a good 5-10 mins and brought it to the boat. i was shocked it didnt break bc again, he didnt go light on him. it was tug o war and he won thanks to pline
  14. i saw that. how much line is in a 1/4lb or 1/8 lb spool?? also they only offer it in smoke and camo green. which would you prefer and why?

i have never fished jerk baits before. how do you fish them.. just so happens i bought one silver and one gold XRAP i think the depth is 8-12ft.. i could be off but is it as simple as jerk jerk pause, jerk jerk pause--perhaps changing it up some?
  17. i find it entertaining as well. i would love to see him fish against the another loud mouth --- Ike
  18. awesome thanks guys.. cool thing is i can practice that at home and work on accuracy and distance
  19. hey guys how do you pitch? what weight and action and rod length rods do this best? i have never learned how and its about time i do. i plan on pitching jigs and texas/shakey head rigs. all my rods are 7ft in medium and MH. most are mod fast to a step lower in action
  20. The bearings and shims need cleaned and re-lubed..Good Luck & Tight Lines Soon!!! i ordered some gear oil and bearing grease from you 2 days ago ... after i get it i am going to do my best with that reel. i know its an el cheapo but i dont have the funds to invest in more expensive reels. thanks bud
  21. hey guys i have been reading on this site for some time now and i guess since i did not take notes i cannot remember what you guys use for certain baits, rod wise.... what do you use medium wt rods for? i have been using them for only cranks and maybe un weighted worms, senkos or what not and T-rigs. also what do you use MH's for? this is usually my all around rod weight for Crigs, topwater baits, spinner baits, jigs, jerk baits, pretty much everything else except for cranks... any tips would be wonderful.
  22. First, I take the reel completely apart and put all of my bearings into a heated ultrasonic cleaner for an hour. I change the solution if needed and put them in for another hour. Second, I spin all the bearings on a small dowel to make sure they spin freely and not damaged. Bearings within the frame of the reel I usually put grease back into with this...http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=169165 Bearings that have higher RPM movement such as spool bearings I put one drop of oil per bearing. Too much will hinder casting distance and make the inside of your spool assembly a mess. BTW, I wouldn't suggest taking your reel completely apart unless you have experience in that area. Lots of small parts inside can be easily forgotten where they go once you get it all apart. Make sure you have your reel schematic handy if you choose to do the work yourself. how does that contraption in your link work? 40$? wow... the reel didnt cost that much haha... the bearings are enclosed and hard to get to. i think they are sealed but its been awhile. ill look at them tonight or this weekend and see what i can come up with. what is happening with my baitcaster (gift) i think its a shakespeare 30 dollar reel.. anyway i have been using it as a crank bait reel and everytime i cast after the first 10-15 casts it goes ZZZZZZ, cranking is no problem but the noise is annoying.. i dont have a lot of $$ to toss into fishing so i try to keep things in good working condition the best i can.. thanks
  23. i thought you guys said to use a medium for texas rigging and for non weighted worm, lizard, senko and etc?
