  1. not to say you are wrong but i used KVD as i lined new line on my spin rods and yes the coiling is still there and it did not go away after a few casts. i fished for a few hours with the same rods and the line actually feels stiffer than fresh out of the spool. just something i have noticed and the line i use is a copolymer. i will try different ways with KVD but over all i am not impressed so far. this could change. btw the coils never relaxed.
  2. i have 2-3 baitcasting rod from Gander and i love em. for the price they are hard to beat. i have casted expensive rods and personally i dont see that big of a difference. i would not hesitate on buying a gander rod. esp on sale
  3. i use KVD on copolymer line (silver thread excalibur) on my spin rods and cannot tell a difference.. i treated the line as i spooled. maybe it works better on mono, fluoro and braid.
  4. buzzbait, pop r's and broken back minnows (floating) fished slow
  5. i know this may sound odd but i do not have much luck on spinner baits. my dad as well.. i dont know why and it bothers me. i love the bait but i dunno, the fish can be picky i suppose.. i dont buy the cheapo spinners either. i use a trailor hook, sometimes i dont, sometimes i use a grub as a tail. notta.. very few and far between.. dont know where i am going wrong here
  6. backlashing catching stick fish hooking up stumps and rocks positive note- boat placement and ideas (though ideas sometimes doesnt pay out)
  7. Ultra Soft is more manageable, but that isn't really an issue with baitcasters. Original Hybrid blends better with water so I have gone back to the original formula. For gin clear water, the green blends best; for stained water, smoke. 8-) what about the clear zuri line?
  8. understood..... one last question (i hope lol) if the dock is facing you or your target is directly infront of you at what angle is your rod facing after the cast? is it direcltly inline with the target or is lets say 1-2 o clock from it as you let go of your line? hope that made sense.
  9. how long (inches) does the lure dangle so to speak? i think i have an idea on what you guys are saying and i do something to that nature but i am sure its not technically a roll cast.. i do it when i cannot bring my rod back for the forward cast. i reel in, lure is a few inches from first eye, swing the bait in a circle to build up momentum and let er' rip.. ill keep in mind about letting it go "under"... now, why is it best for docks? i sidearm my cast for under docks (keeping as parellel as i can with the water and as it goes the distance it closes in on the water and splash)
  10. nice.. where do you find these at wally world?
  11. I keep reading "roll casting" on this site and I am curious on how do you do it? I may do it now and just not know the name. thanks fellas
  12. Alamance County here so not too far from you.. we fish the New for smallies once or twice a year with light spin gear but i am gonna try fly fishing it this year i think.
  13. all highland lakes have smallies. yadkin has smallies but they are way up river where the colder mtn creeks dump in. i have seen (once in an absolute blue moon) smallies in the Mitchell River (where i fly fish some before it gets cleaned out by the locals-- trout)
  14. we fly fish a few times a year up in the mtns of NC. i bought a 7wt rod for the smallies but have not used it yet. i would imagine wooly buggers, large bugs, streamers of all kinds ( color match the bait of course). etc etc etc...
  15. Falls is a very shallow lake, it always gets crankin' before the other lakes do.. seems like the other lakes fall about 1-3weeks later than Falls.. what did you use and how? slow? thanks!
  16. i used both in 14lb (elite and seige) and yes its very strong but next time i would go with something in lest diameter. the 14lb for me had bad memory and was stiff.
  17. what i did with spooling was to reel so many yards then spray liberally on the line, reel more in and spray and repeat. -- side note, i am using silver thread 12lb excaliber and i used KVD and i do not notice a difference in memory. maybe it works better for flouros. i dunno.
  18. how do you roll cast with a baitcaster or spin rod? i fly fish as well and i assume its not the same roll cast (using the water for tension).
  19. yep went to the pond yesterday with some case worms unweighted and the little males were very shallow. right up against the bank.. they were young males too. i only caught one fish on the worm and he inhaled it. ill bet he wasnt but 7 inches long lol.. june bug color... those case worms work wonderful for smallies up in the new river
  20. do you guys stand on buckets ( to imitate distance off the water) or do you stand flat footed? also do you guys pitch t-rigged lizards and such as well?
  21. dang thanks guys.. good info here
  22. i fished the family pond this past nice weekend and notta. saw a few small bass approach me but they backed off... maybe the water needs a bit more warming up.
  23. how deep will bass spawn on flats? What is the usual depth? ( i do realize it depends on the depth of the lake but you get what i am saying) how can you identify spawning flats
  24. i dont think the ambient temp outside is gonna add up to much until early next week to mid next week. we had over 6 inches of snow that just got melted today that drained in my lake. plus a few creeks with snow run off is pouring in it as we speak. i think the water temps dropped like a mo fo... however, i may bank fish to try it out. it will be nice this weekend and i cant think of anything better than to fish btw what lake did you catch that bad boy in? thats a hoss! congrats oh and what did you catch him on?
