  1. Welcome back...although I don't know you, as I'm sorta newish, I have read some of your posts, and found them very interesting, and informative.. Greg
  2. When I build something for someone, i.e. a new deck, fence, ect..and my saw breaks, I don't stop, or give up and not build anything else. I replace, or fix that tool, and move on...same with fishing. That's why we generally have many lures, to replace those that are lost.
  3. Dang...Texas is lookin better, and better all the time..lol Nice fish!
  4. Great!!!!! he seems to enjoy lookin at that bass..lol Cute kid too...you should be proud.. 8-)
  5. Saw a fish tv show once, they were so america fishin for peacock bass. This dude throws a topwater bait under a overhanging tree, and this 20 lb peacock just Explodes on it, big males are really colorful, also they put up a good fight. Keep fishin, I'm sure you'll find the big guys.
  6. Great post, great fish...and congratz on your PB, on the Rage Tail.. 8-)
  7. I've never in over 25 yrs seen a bass clear water, except when a 5.5 lb'r caught my spinnerbait before it hit the water..
  8. I'm gonna say yes also..
  9. So ..Dink, you gonna get a kustom rod, or one of them store bought ones..?
  10. I wish I could find a tackle shop that carries them..
  11. I have used alot of lines, including triline xl...then there's this guy on here named Road Warrior...lol Anyhow, I have been using YoZuri Hybrid Ultrasoft for about the last month or so, and haven't switched brands yet, and I don't even spray it with KVD line conditioner. Oh have used both 10 and 12 lb test, cast's a tad better with the 10 lb.
  12. Well, looks like I'm the ODD one...lol I do use the 8# on my 2500 Shimano spinnin reel, why..? for a couple of reasons..I fish alot of city park ponds/lakes..all of them have rocks, and or debris that people seem to feel compeled to throw in the water..so, I feel that I need the 8 # for the abrasion factor.. Also, 99% of the lakes I fish have stick ups, rocks, timber..ect.again, I feel better with the 8#...just mho..Oh, and I have never felt the need to spray the yozuri us with kvd line conditioner..
  13. RW, I know..I've had Shimano's for over 25 yrs..however, I'm looking at reels this time with an open mind..
  14. I'm not up on the current reels, I have looked at the discriptions on a few sites, but ya know how that goes, I'd like some Real world suggestions from you guys. I did look at the Pflugers on TW, but noticed they aren't available in the lefty's..? Rell will be mainly used for plastics on a 6'6" Rick Clunn bps rod. I'd like a good casting reel, one that doesn't require lots of adjustmen, and in a low profile model. Brand isn't as important as quality, and feel. So...whatcha think..? BTW, if absolutly have to spend another 30.00 or so..that would be o.k.
  15. I would just add that, I prefer to use a bc in heavey cover, i.e. flippin, that's not to sat it can't be done with a spinning rig.
  16. The only problem is, at least here in Cali, is that Bass aren't stocked, while most other fish are, i.e. trout, catfish ect. He probably wasn't even fishing for bass, as in alot of cases they hook a nightcrawler on, hopeing to get a big catfish, and wind up taking a healthy Bass, and a good sized female at that...CPR always. Got my flame suit on, so fire away..
  17. That's my point..if you have sharp hooks, and use the proper technique, you don't need to slam em, i.e. whip the rod with all you have..As was said..reel down then set it with enough force to get the fish..Now if your in real deep water, then use more force. I see 200+# guys with broomsticks throwing all their body weight into a hookset, which IMHO there's no need for it...JMHO.
  18. Yozuri Hybrid Ultra Soft...no matter what's in the water.
  19. Except on dinks..I've seen the whole side of their mouth ripped apart, also it's easy to get em hooked in the eye from the backside..just thought I'd toss that in the mix..
  20. Re: spinning reels, I have to agree with Chris, as I used them for a long time too..no problems, both fresh, and salt.. If you do decide to go the BC route, I'd lean towards the MH, depending on the rod, my not so exspensive rods are mh with fast action, so far they've worked o.k. for me..It's really a personal thing which kind of rig you use, as any rig will catch fish, some will work better than others in a given situation.
