Fishing with Dad
Awesome story. My Son and I don't get to fish nearly enough, he travels a bunch for work. Nothing like a Father and Son fishing together. Glad you guys got back into it...

Spinnerbait Best Beginner "Moving" Lure
So, the # 1 bait I'd teach a new person is how to fish a t rigged worm. For a moving bait the spinner bait is so versatile, many ways to fish it. I would suggest getting 3 sizes, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 oz. Colors..white is always good, white with some chartreuse is too, as for the blades, water color will determine which ones may work best. Clear to slightly stained..I like chrome willow blades, caught a ton of bass with those. If the water is on the muddy side, Colorado blades will give off more ( thump) to attract fish. One more thing, look for spinnerbaits that don't have the blades extending way back over the hook, this causes lots of short strikes. If your using a trailer of any kind, a trailer hook is a good idea to have on there. The reason I suggest 3 sizes is, some days the bass want a smaller profile, other days bigger, that and many other things there are to learn. Vary the retrieves, high, med, low, fast and slow, ect, ect.. In the old days, we had only mags to learn from for the most part, it was usually trial and error, but we learned..Hopefully this will make it a tad easier for you. Most important thing is, have FUN..

What are some smooth braids ?
IIRC the last spool of Samurai I bought was in 2008, 30lb..never had any bleeding or bad fading, it did fade some, but not much.

New graphs too good for tournaments?
But, the folks who fish in tournaments Don't keep what they catch, If they did, then I could see your point. Commercial fishermen Sell what they catch.

Sprayed...... again
That musta been lots of fun..Yuuuuk! We have skunks around the golf course, but they are use to having humans around, and won't spray unless they feel threatened..

Livetarget Baitball crankbaits--any good?
I have a really old LT shad lipless crank bait, caught a couple of smaller bass, and a 7 lb rainbow trout on it, and that was it..It sits in my tackle box now.

What are some smooth braids ?
I used Diawa Samurai for years a long time ago. When I got back into fishing I spooled up with Seaguar Smackdown stealth grey. Pretty happy with it so far.

Hearing Aids and Bass Boats
Yeah, at 7k..medicare doesn't cover hearing. I lost 65% of the upper freq's due to shooting and loud music, now I have to live with it, just can't afford to buy them..

Swim bait jig head
Probably..It doesn't have to fit perfectly. The reason I suggested a lighter weight is IF, you fish from shore, a lighter bait won't have to be reeled as fast to keep it off the bottom, if you want, or Need to, as you are likely making Long cast's.

Western Movies
Saw all the above mentioned movies. All were great to watch..Not to forget Hop along Cassidy, Gunsmoke, Palidin, ect. The last western that I saw wound up being one of my all time faves..Butch Cassidy, and the Sundance Kid. I seldom watch TV, and movies anymore.. Opps, almost forgot Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. And the Lone Ranger.

Swim bait jig head
Yep, try at least the 1/4 oz with a 2.8 keitech. Won't sink as fast as the 3/8, and you can swim it in the upper water column easier.

Split grip or full cork question
All my rods are split grip, even my swimbait rod. There are many folks that prefer full grips, some cork, some eva. + 1 to what jimmyjoe said..try em if you can, then decide.

Recommend me a swimbait, BR!
RE: the leader thing..I snapped off a 3:16 bait years ago to the tune of 150.00 using a leader. Knots did not fail, leader broke after the knot, since then I use straight mono without any issues. I personally do not see any advantage to using braid unless your fishing real heavy cover, and then it would be without a leader, that's just me..

I would also suggest losing the leader deal. I throw mainly 6" weedless huds in about 8-10 feet of water, for that reason I like the slow sink ROF 5. Depending on where I'm fishing, I use either 17 or 20 lb Sufix Elite Camo line. I shy away from treble hooked baits, only because in most of the park lakes they get snagged.

Swimbait tackle
What brand rod do you use, and does it have micro guides..?
-
Swimbait tackle
No offence, but I suspect your tying the knot incorrectly. I use to do braid with a leader, and always used a uni to uni knot, never had any issues, and I was throwing much heavier baits than 5" Rage swimmers. I stopped doing the leader thing years ago, and began using mostly straight mono, or if conditions required it, fluro. If you have badly stained, or muddy water, just use straight braid. Re: Tatcticalbassin..Matt and Tim fish for a living, they are Pro's. Also they possibly get a lot of their line for free, or at a reduced cost. They are good at what they do, but their ways of doing things aren't for everyone.
