  3. Welcome.
  4. In most cases I would say forget the forecast and be prepared to fish whatever comes your way. If you backout every time you think the weather may be bad, you'll cancel half of your trips. If backing out is an option and you can get most of your money back from reservations, more power to you.
  5. SmokinShad, I have pasted a couple of threads below that will fill you in on the conversations about the recent world record bass from Japan. You will probably find what you are looking for there. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1262975946/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1260989686/15

  8. No matter how experienced one is there are some things that are always a work in progress. I honestly don't know if any one thing is more difficult than others. I fish lakes with lots of clutter on the bottom so I can only use the carolina rig in particular places. Because of this I don't use it enough to become what I would call an expert with the technique. I think my sonar reading skills could always improve. Side-imaging and downscan could make this easier but I don't own these tools at the moment. I think the average wind speeds where I fish range from 15 - 25 mph so my boat control is something that I still need to improve. It will never be where I want it to be. Improvement is always possible and it is a lifetime activity.

  12. In my region, catching 100 bass in a mature lake with a mature population of bass is rare. To catch that many on successive trips to the same lake usually indicates a situation where the lake was restocked recently with young bass. This is obviously a different situation from what you and the the other anglers experience at Lake Barrett. For someone who has never caught more than 10 or 20 in a day, 100 would probably be electrifying. (I know the first time I caught 100 I was high as a kite, though I was in my teens at the time. I don't think that 100 smaller fish would provide the same excitement as 5 to 10 bruisers now.) If that same person were to catch 100 a few days in a row, I'm sure that, like you, he or she would become bored. However, for most anglers, I suspect that catching over 100 is a rare occurrence and boredom would not come into play, especially if he or she had not experienced that many bass before. As you indicate in your post, you went back 5 more times to beat the 117 you caught the first day, so you were still excited about numbers for a few days until it got old.
  13. David Hasselhoff played in the NFL? ;D I'm laughing so hard I almost choked on the water I'm drinking. I meant Hasselbeck, of course. I can't believe I typed in Hasselhoff. That's hilarious.
  14. Superbowl 40 - Steelers vs Seahawks Superbowl 40 is exhibit A for games where the officials affected the outcome in a tremendous way. I mentioned it in a post above but I think when a thread gets this long most of us don't read every post. It is rather difficult to justify what happened in that Superbowl by characterizing it as normal officiating mistakes. http://www.theeastcarolinian.com/2.5281/seahawks-were-cheated-1.813623 http://www.outsports.com/nfl/2005/superbowl.htm
  15. A few more choices would clarify where everyone actually draws this line, or if, indeed, a definitive line can be drawn. I think the size of the bass in one's geographic region also plays a part in the decision. For example: (1) One 14 lb'er (2) Five 8 lb'ers (3) Twenty 5 - 6 lb'ers (4) Fifty 3 - 4 lb'ers (5) One hundred 2 - 3 lb'ers Etc. Most of us want to catch that huge bass, but this question is too much in the "all or one" category. For instance, it takes quite a bit of time to find and catch a 17 lb'er in California like Matt mentioned, or a 9 lb'er in my state. These trophies don't come every day. I am not willing to go for days not catching much of anything while searching for that elusive monster. I'll exchange a few days of trophy hunting for numbers, and vice-versa. I think it depends on the day and what I have been doing over the past few weeks.
  16. Between all the hours I'm putting in at work, and the winter weather, I am a little tense. I've avoided having a psychotic breakdown . . . . so far.
  17. I'm not surprised. This is an interesting topic. While I don't think there was anything underhanded in last night's game, I can't say the same thing for the Superbowl in early 2006 between the Steelers and the Seahawks. I was rooting for the Steelers because I wanted Jerome Bettis to get a SB win before he retired, but the Seahawks were absolutely robbed by officiating that bordered on shear cheating. For instance: Hasselhoff threw an interception and when he made the tackle he was flagged for an "illegal" low tackle. How does anyone make an illegal low tackle? Rothlisberger attempted to call a timeout a full second after the play clock ran out. There was no delay of game penalty. He was given the timeout. There were other highly questionable calls in that Superbowl that went against the Seahawks. The officiating affected the outcome of the game in a big way. As I stated above, I wanted the Steelers to win but after watching the game, I didn't feel good about it at all. The big question: Were these normal officiating mistakes or was something fishy going on? Because of the severity and the quantity of the mistakes that hurt the Seahawks, I believe it was the latter.
  18. I don't know. I think it would be difficult to completely control a game, but I do think that certain individuals involved in a game could work together to affect the results. My anecdotal evidence shows that the media and the NFL know how to create a David vs Goliath scenario. The story and the line showed the Colts were the favorites. The Saints were painted as the underdogs and everyone was led to believe they deserved to win. The story was accepted hook, line, and sinker by just about everyone I know. I attended my stepson's Superbowl party and there were two people out of around 20 that were wanting the Colts to win. In the last week I have only spoken to one other person that wanted the Colts to win. And did you hear the noise in that stadium when the Colts had the ball? If I didn't know any better I would have thought the Saints were playing at home.
