  1. Guess I'm trying to sell myself on those 50 mg's that are being clearanced. But, trying to figure out what the advantage to having one would be besides low weight. I have the sol, tdx, and calais 100...all of which are very versatile reels. Looking for input. Thanks.
  2. A good all purpose line that is cheap is berkley big game in 12 lb test.
  3. There is a product called 3rd grip rod holster that you wear around your waist. I've used mine for 3yrs. It is comfortable enough that I forget I am wearing it as it conviently stores your second rod out of the way. Great invention.
  4. I have both sahara and symetere 750. If you open a few boxes of saharas and spin them, you might find one as smooth as the symetre. I use both for UL applications 2-4lb test.
  5. I have the powell 683c and highly recommend 'em.
  6. I have a lefty SOL and out of the box it "whirred". Casting it in the backyard this winter, I seriously thought about returning it. However, the reel performs nicely and it evidently broke in cause it is even smoother and quieter than before. Fished with it this morn and I don't recall hearing any annoying "whirrrr". Also, used to have a stx, but got rid of it in favor of the sol. The stx was quiet, but could not throw the small stuff well.
  7. Last yr. one of our local tackle dealers had the previous version. We took it out in the parking lot and played with it. I was fairly impressed. If the price was about 100 bucks less, I might have one now. However, there was a calais 100 on ebay for $40 more than the ardent. That was a no brainer. Bottom line....at that price range, I went with a tried and true performer. Meantime, I keep a close watch on what ardent is doing and hope they continue to make positive improvements.
  8. Marion County right here.
  9. I've done a search on some of the various forums and seems like the supreme is really liked. I'm thinking about getting one, but also am looking at others. Any further comments on this reel ?
  10. Great advice.
  11. I walk/wade all of the time. Usually am throwing a texas rig with 1/8th oz bullet weight. Fav's are worms, baby brush hog, tubes, and small jigs. I have a pole holster called third grip that holds the spare rod. In my confidence areas I'll spend more time. Otherwise , I run and gun. Stuck a real decent fish last week in 48* water. It can be done.
  12. Like to know how these reels are working out so far ?
  13. I do alot of fishing with 1/8 oz bullet weight and light texas rig. Would like some other ideas. Thanks.
  14. I always bring two rods when I walk/wade. Got a thing called third grip pole holster that straps around my waist to carry the second rod. Just have to remember it is there when I'm going through brush.
  15. I've been bass fishing for two yrs. now and I took the advice of a good bass fisherman who suggested I first learn jig fishing. Once you get the hang of it, there will always be a jig rod with you. It produces fish and some nice ones ! A big majority of my better bass have come on a jig.
  16. I bought an inspira IA 30 two yrs. ago to replace a symetre 2500. Been happy with that switch. Then, recently I picked up a new epixor 20 for 39.99. The epixor is not quite as smooth as the inspira, but is close.
  17. I once dreamt that I was a bass or am I a bass that dreamt I'm a fisherman. :-/ Seriously, I wake myself up setting the hook or having the rod yanked out of my hand. You know, the one the bait monkey bought.
  18. I have the crucial DS 72M with a daiwa exceler 1500 and 6lb line. Excellent for swimming grubs and dropshotting. I use it for smallies and walleyes. Decent rod.
  19. Looking to get some info for fishing around the Umatilla, Oregon area.
  20. Looking to get some fishing info. on the Columbia River at the Umatilla, Or. area.
  21. I'm looking to do more of fishing in the rocks with a hula grub type bait and jig head. Which style of jig head goes through the rocks better ?
  22. Raul has always answered my questions and for that, I am grateful. The bait monkey now resides in my house. :'(
  23. I shore/wade fish ALOT and having good equipment has really helped me enjoy the experience more. A product called 3rd grip pole holster goes on your hip and holds the second rod wonderfully. The plus side to shore fishing is that there are no long lines at the boat ramp to deal with, no boat mechanical issues to deal with, and just the overall exercise involved if you cover alot of water.
  24. I have a couple of the guide series tournament rods that retail for $79.99 , but got 'em on sale for $49.99. These rods come with fuji alconite guides and are a steal at that price.
