  1. As stated, 100-120 gets you a fine rod.
  2. I like the DT-squares Also, Spro Lil JOhn
  3. Personally, I don't think its ethical to dump it. There are TONS of perfectly fine things to sink that you find everyday. Toilets. Concrete culverts. Concrete blocks.
  4. LOL. Yeah. He asked about using a multi-purpose rod with crankbaits. I said I would never do that. Then I explained what I would use for a multi purpose. Just giving him a few more data points is all.
  5. I use a 7' Mod/Mod custom crankin' rod which uses Lamiglass blanks. Love it. Will be building 2 more in the next month. I pair that with either a Citica E or a Citica Bantam.
  6. For a crankbait rod, I would NEVER use anything but a fiberglass rod. You just miss too many fish or have them shake off. The load up that a glass rod offers at the point of attack is unbeatable. However, to really answer your question: 200 dollars isn't going to buy you happiness in a multipurpose combo. Spend a little extra and get at LEAST a St. Croix Triumph, 6'6'' Med HVY/ FAST with a Citica E. I would venture to go ahead and get a 7' and relearn. Problem with that is, compared to my custom rods with the same reel....well....there is no comparison. Especially in price. :'(
  7. Don't remember exactly where, but I was able to google it, and print off a piece of paper with all the common knots.
  8. One pic? Pfffttttt. Too many descripe this year for me. Ok. So this first one is a video. Sue me. My dad caught me PERFECT in this pic. I have sooo many. I just KNOW yall want to see them.
  9. Here is my suggestion: Get out while you can. Otherwise, you will spend your days at work sitting on here and ***.
  10. LOL. I feel ya, bro. I pass the time by building custom frog rods. Problem is, I now have 3. HAHA. I need to sell them :-/ But, they are must have. I don't have no froggin' problem when I use them.
  11. Absolutely. And, to me, you can't buy this rod. Which is why I build my own frog rods. They are lightyears better than store boughts. Reminds me. I need to get some pics of my latest.
  12. clear water and clear skies, I steer clear of lipless rattle baits. It's just too much going on. clear water and overcast skies, chrome and blue. If its more clear than cloudy, downsize to the smaller mini traps. stained water and clear skies-natural colors for me. all other times-most obnoxious bait you have. Royal Red XR75s, slow retireve with hard jerks thrown in followed by pauses.
  13. Can't go wrong with the Zooms. I also like the money frogs. Fairly touch. Cast a long way too.
  14. RC 2.5DD in appropriate colors Lil Johns in spooky or spring craw Rapala DT series in red craw Thats about all the lipped cranks I throw in winter I also love me some XR50 or 75s.
  15. Think this is the same topic posted earlier. Same conditions and all... If its murky.....XR75s in Rayburn. DT10 in red craw. Lil Jon in spring craw.
  16. If you mean, in the hunter-gatherer sense of the word? Yes. If you mean in the context of sportsmanship? Of course not. Of course, I am not talking about the same context that you are. I believe I make it alot more complicated. I typically spend a good bit of time figuring out what I am going to throw and where the day before. If I don't catch something quickly, I begine swapping lures. You have to find what works, of course, but if you fan cast 12 different lures, you very rarely will get lucky enough to get a pattern.
  17. What size lake is it? If it has any depth at all, I would say that, if you can get in, its worth it. If it doesn't have depth in excess of 40 feet in spots, I wouldn't bother.
  18. I wouldn't change what you have tied on. I would just make sure that you position yourself for success. It is very easy to waste time on a cold day for naught.Find the baitfish. Don't even bother picking up a rod until you find them.
  19. Dead on. LJ in that color will slay them. However, I stick with the spring craw in the winter and/or dirty water.
  20. I fished the HJ as my first jerkbiat/slashbait. Then I went to Lucky Craft pointers. I never picked the Rapala up again. Kinda like when I went from Walk-the-Dog to a Sammy Or the DT to the RCs.... See a pattern?
  21. Colorado bladed 1/2 ounce chartrouse spinnerbaits
  22. XR75. Rayburn Red or chartrouse. Do it.
  23. Let me defunct that then. This fish was caught on a frog. My wife was hanging out at the dock which was very close, so I brought the boat back, I brought her out, took videos and pics. Released her. Got back in the boat, went back to the same spot, cast the same frog out. Caught the same fish. Literally, minutes apart. I KNOW it was the same fish, because the inside of the mouth was ripped from the frog.
  24. Its hard to beat crankbaits around rip rap. Cast to it and retrieve. You cover alot of ground, which is important on most rivers where you are fighting current anyway. If there is a little current, you won't get hung up nearly as bad, so you can bump and run the rip rap.
