  1. I would check craigslist or ebay for a citica 200d or like above the abu silvermax or blackmax.
  2. I've also heard the powell was really good. I think it's the 766. They're gonna run about $170 though. I believe you can get a carrot stix for your price range and a lot of people are in love with those. I know the shimano crucials are good reods but I'm not sure the cost on their flippin stick.
  3. I ordered this setup for my deep cranking. I've gotten some pretty good advice about this rod from some local guys so I decided to give it a shot. I was gonna go with a dobyns but since I don't deep crank all that much I decided to save a little dough and get the crucial. I also thought about a revo winch but I guess shimano is where my heart is. Anyway next up is a dobyns and a core for smaller cranks and lipless cranks then it's on to spinnerbaits and then a dobyns c-rig setup. I'm getting excited to say the least. I'm a hardcore golf junky and I had a lot of high end clubs but I've sold all but my main set on ebay so I can get quality fishing gear. When the fishing bug bites it bites hard. ;D
  4. Yeah they had these two and a good bit of falcon cara's as well. I've been kicking myself ever since about the 894. The one I bought actually rung up for like 135 bucks. By the time it got to 50-60% off I was getting norman and rapala cranks and rage tail stuff like it was going away for good. My house now looks like a fishing store because of that sale.
  5. Thats what I was thinking. It seems everybody is moving to longer rods anyway. We actually had our Sportsmans warehouse close a couple of weeks ago and when I went in they had 2 of these left. One was a 894 and one was an 893. I should have grabbed the 894 as well and used it to flip the heavy stuff.
  6. OK guys I bought a mossyback bcfr893 a couple of weeks back for 50% off. I just grabbed it because of the deal and now I need to know what I should use it for. Is it close to the dobyns 733 just a little longer or is it a completely rod for a completely different purpose? I'm thinking of using it for t-rigs but I've never used a rod this long for that.
  7. I took a look at this reel also but I had a couple of people that I trust tell me that they would not last like a shimano. I think as far as casting goes it would be fime but long term I would put my money in a shimano. The chronarch 100b can be had for that kind of money and the e series curados are cheaper. Another reel I've heard nothing but positives about is the Skeet Reese edition revo. They go on ebay for 220-230 as well. The gold series is a sweet looking reel.
  8. Ok so here is what I'm thinkin long term. 733- light t-rigs and plastics 734- heavier t-rigs and creatures and spinner baits 705cb- shallow to medium cranking and rattle traps 805cb- deep crankin Since I don't pitch heavy cover a lot where I fish I'll wait and grab a 736 when the time comes that I need it or I just have some money burning a hole in my pocket. Would one of these cover Carolina rigging? I will be doing a good bit of that come summer. What do you guys think of these setups? These rods and reels are gonna look funny in a bass tracker huh? That'll be a good excuse to tell the wife I need a Skeeter. ;D
  9. Thanks Tom, all you guys have some great info. I think the first one I'll try will be a 733 with a Core for my t-rigs and other soft plastics. That sound like a pretty good combo?
  10. Keep it coming guys, great info. What about the fenwick elite tech? Also are the powell's as light and sensitive as the dobyns and loomis or are they a step down in the blanks they use?
  11. How do you tell if they are the gen1 or gen2? I was looking at the champion series on their site. This is the type input I was looking for, thanks fellas.
  12. I'm about to buy a few new rods and I'm looking into these brands. If you guys have used em tell me what you know. I was gonna just go with a loomis cbr 845 and a mossyback 802 or 803 and then one of their sbr series rods. I like to be a little different though and try new things so I was thinking of going with one of these 3 companies. I'll be buying a t-rig and light jig rod, a mid/deep crank rod and the third will either be a spinnerbait rod or a heavier jig rod. Give me some input fellas.
  13. thanks for the replies fellas, I've been away since I posted this. I'm thinking about picking one up on ebay.
  14. Any of you guys used one on a crank setup? Will it handle the larger crankbaits pretty well? Also is there a carrot stix gold cranking rod that would be good for 3/8 up to 3/4 oz. crankbaits, or should I just grab a loomis 845? thanks
  15. My brother just bought one for his first baitvasting setup. I've been pretty impressed by it. It's nice and light and pretty sensitive. He got the 7' mh/f.
  16. What are you gonna be using it for? That b is a steal at that price. I'm thinking of getting a b for cranking and a e7 for my carolina rigs.
  17. Ok guys I've been doing some research on the Carrot Stix Gold. Any recommendations there. I'm thinking a 7' MH/F for the plastics and jigs and a 7' M/M for the cranks. What say you? Still trying to decide on reels as well. It's the line capacity thats holding me back.
  18. From what I've learned so far I would agree on the MH and 7' or a little longer. Bassackwards, what test and brand of line are you throwing on that mg?
  19. Man, this stuff gets confusing. :-/ I use trilene 14lb test right now. Which reels would you recommend? Or should I just throw smaller test? I really like the ch and the core and so many people are using em that tells me I should be ok with lower test right? I'm up for fishing anytime I'm awake. ;D
  20. Thanks fellas. Should I just stick with the 6.**:1 ratio for all 3 of these or is there 1 where i need to go lower? Also will the core be ok as far as how much heavier test line it can hold for my big cranks? Hey RoadWarrior, I see your from Germantown. I'm really close to you in Olive Branch MS. Good to see someone local.
  21. Hey guys, I'm trying to get 3 combos put together here in the next couple of weeks and I need a little help. Last year I bought a citica 200 and a st. croix triumph medium/fast and I've been using that setup for everything. Now the bug has bit and I'm doing a lot more fishing and I'm gonna be doing a lot more boat fishing this year. I'm gonna need at least 2 more setups. Please recommend rods and reels and what baits to throw with em for me. I'm thinking the setup I have now should be a pretty good spinner bait setup but if I'm wrong let me know. So the other 2 I think I need is 1 for jigs and soft plastics and 1 for cranks and lipless cranks. My father in law is gonna set me up with a carolina rig setup for my fourth. I've been thinking a ch50mg and a mh/f or xf for plastics and jigs I've been thinking a core or ??? for my cranking but don't know which rod to go with. Please recommend which brand of rod I should go with in the 150 dollar range on both setups. Also will I be able to throw all different size crankbaits on my crank setup or will my small ones need to be thrown with one of the other setups? Same thing on my worm setup. Will my heavier pig and jigs be thrown on the same setup as my lighter plastics? I know this is a lot of questions so thanks in advance guys.
