  1. Drop the rod, reel the slack, & set the hook?
  2. Reasons for using paneling nail is they are painted (less likely to rust), cheap (couple bucks for 50), can be found every where, come in storage boxes.

  8. Paneling nails have little ridges on them which hold them in place 8-) Never had a nail come out a worm ever
  9. Huh been doing that for years & now it's got a name :-? Do it with someone on skis or a hydra slide but after the turn nail the throttle again and watch them go skipping across the water.
  10. Muddy I use a nail in two techniques, in both the nail is inserted horizontally into the tail of a Zoom Trick or Finesse worm. The type of nail I use is 1 paneling nails that you can buy your local lumber yard. The length of the nail varies with the desired weight needed of each technique. Wacky Rig: With this technique a straight tailed worm is hooked through the egg sack causing the worm to fall in an eradiate fashion. A nail to the tail adds weight allowing easier casting in windy situations and changes the fall to a slightly faster one. Texas Rig: Rig a straight tail worm in the normal Texas Rig fashion but with no bullet weight in front of the hook. Insert a nail into the tail to obtain the desired weight needed for casting, this will allow the worm to fall horizontal like a senko would.
  11. Not only does it show how predictable big fish are but it answers dinks question about Why don't "prime spots" produce EVERY year? I fish some of the same spots on Toledo Bend since 1972 and they still produce today Perfect example why we should catch & release 8-)
  12. Here's mine 1965: Spend the entire summer working on my uncle's charter fishing boat in the Gulf of Mexico and learned how to locate deep water structure. 1972: Started bass fishing seriously on Toledo Bend at my father-in-law's camp on White's Point in the mouth of Lowe's Creek. 1974: Joined two bass clubs whose members included John Torian, John Hall, John Dean, Villis P "Bo" Dowden SR, Harold Allen, Larry Nixon, Tommy Martin, & Zell Roland all guides at Toledo Bend's Pendleton Harbor Marina. Ray Scott would latter come up with the "The Hemphill Gang" moniker arguably the most successful group of professional bass anglers to ever emerge from one small region of the nation. 1976: Attended a seminar in Houston Texas that totally changed my outlook on bass fishing. The man putting on that seminar was Elwood L. " Buck" Perry, not only did I buy his books but I became a devout student of his teachings. I took what Buck taught about deep structure fishing and applied it to Toledo Bend. Not only did the quantity of bass I caught go up but so did quality. My desire was to become a professional angler but due to the lack of major sponsors and lack of support by my family who believed professional tournament fishing was not a stable way to raise a family so I stayed in the construction industry. I still continued to fish local tournaments on Toledo Bend until 1982 when my divorce put a stop to my self sponsorship, I would not return to the Bend until 1993. I'm an avid student of the following Elwood L. " Buck" Perry & Bill Murphy: Finding & understanding deep structure Douglas Hannon & Shaw Grisby: Understanding bass behavior Rick Clunn: Mental aspects of bass fishing Bobby Murray: Big bass can be caught on light line That's the who's now for the what I was introduce to night fishing in 1973 and have continued until the present. These years of having limited or no visibility has heightened my awareness of what is taking place below the surface. This heightened awareness has made me better at fishing deep water where feeling the bite is harder than finding structure.
  13. Unless you know the proper techniques required in push poling you will be too tired to be concerned about pole weight or fishing.
  14. Payton Manning will finally beat the Patriots but the Saints will steal his thunder in the super bowl. Grossman can't take defensive pressure and the saints have plenty
  15. Toledo Bend was flooded in 1969; I have topo maps of the Housen' Bayou & Six Mile area from 1959. These contour lines on these maps were draw up by surveyors on foot with a transit and story pole. The difference between these maps and a Hot Spot map is that the older maps are in 5' measurements instead of 10' measurements on the Hot Spot map. They also show smaller creeks and small bayous not even shown on the Hot Spot maps. Topographical maps are drawn with contour lines, each line represents an elevation, and if you know the current lake level you can determine the depth of the water at each contour line change. Next you use you depth finder to locate these contour changes thus locating structure. The problem most people run into with topo maps is changing 1 dimensional map into a 3 dimensional image in their mind.
  16. If you can't heard the sound of nature then you music is too loud (having grown up in the 60s I can't believe I just said that). I carry a small CD player with a select number of albums; I keep the volume at a minimum. I don't own anything with head phones because they irritate me to no end. Some nights I never turn the CD player on but on those nights when it's hours between bites a little Southern Rock sure make the wait easier.

I have found baby brush hogs work better than the larger brush hogs with the Texas Rig producing better than any other. My most productive colors by far is Watermelon Neon, Black Sapphire, & June Bug Red.
  18. Go to the section Fishing Location-Central Bass Fishing Read Lake Fork Report & Pictured by Tom-Redington I know the first thing you are going to think is that's in Texas and while this is true the information contained in this report will give you basic techniques used in winter fishing that can be applied most any where in the country.
  19. My I suggest that when you buy a map do not get a topo of the lake, instead get a topo map of the area before it was flooded. Unless the lake is a natural lake then you have no choice.
  20. My goal is to break the Toledo Bend record of 15.32 lbs
  21. I use attractants for two purposes first as a lubricant because I fish in grass a lot and the attractant helps my plastic baits slide through easier. I use Fish Formula II or Baitmate (clear) with a ½ oz of pure anise oil added; this is to mast any odor my plastic may have pick up.

It is common knowledge that the blood of animals is saline that is it contains sodium chloride in solution. The chemical notation for sodium is Na+. When combined with chloride, the resulting substance is table salt.
