Sometimes yes...sometimes no! ROF There has been a alot talk recently about how a jig looks sitting on the bottom. My number one concern is Rate Of Fall, second is how it sits on the bottom. Trimming or leaving it long should be done to change the rate of fall. During the Dog Days of Summer I'll throw a 1/2 oz jig with a full size skirt & a whole Rage Lobster for a trailer. Or a swing head!

If I don't like a Worm or Jig rod for whatever reason it's going back. Yeah I do ? Now if ya wanna talk grass mats that's a different rod. Actually two different rods, the one I use the most is a Lew's TP1B74H 7'4" Heavy Fast 3/16-1 1/2 oz.

Medium Heavy X-Fast for both My current worm rod is a Powell Inferno MH X-Fast while my jig rod is a Dawia Tatula MH X-Fast. Medium heavy is supposed to be directly between medium & heavy. My Inferno leans slightly towards medium while the Tatula leans more towards heavy. Texas Rigs tend to use "lighter" wire for hooks while jig hooks tend to be thicker.

I don't put bass or any animal on a pedestal above humans...period. Y'all ain't got not problem eating beef, pork, chicken, crappie, walleye or any other species. I ain't got no problem eating a bass or an issue with someone who does.

Rest assured a 2# plus bass can inhale any crawfish that swims regardless of how big the pinchers are. I throw quite a few 6-7 1/2" crawworms with huge claws. I use to throw a 6" "bubble craw" that had a pocket in each claw that you could insert a round bubble rattle.

I have watched dozens of videos on bass vs crawfish. When a crawfish in the claws up defensive posture the bass will not attempt a frontal attack. The bass will circle around the crawfish waiting for an opportunity to strike. If y'all have ever seen in person or on a video a crawfish down a bass's throat what do ya see? The claws! I believe the bass attacked tail first. Immature crawfish have small or no pinchers. These are a bass's preferred choice to eat, the shell is softer, no pinchers to worry about, just swallow whole. In my jig I want it to "stand" up like a football head but narrower. My weapon of choice is Greg Hackney's flourcarbon jig. When at rest I do not want claws up defensive posture.

For 50+ years of night fishing from April through October I have kept detailed records. These records show no increase in bites inregard to moon phase. Moon phase. barometric pressure, water temperatures, water clarity, sky conditions, frontal conditions, seasonal patterns are all part of the equation. No single one dominates any of the others, they all work in unison. If your preference is "a waxing gibbous to full" & you fish mainly that phase quess what the records will show. I have night fished in every moon phase possible not for research purposes. I went fishing when the opportunity arose, kinda like y'all do during the day. I've said it a thousand times I night fish just like I do during the day. The same structures, the same cover, the same techniques, the same lures, & the same colors.
