So you're saying if the bass sees that lure they will not hit it because they know there are no trout in Texas? 60 yrs of bass fishing I've never seen a lizard in the water or anything that looks like a Rat-L-Trap, or a Rage Bug.- The Hawg Hunters
@Mobasser Couple things to keep in mind. Conditions & timing, both are something we do not control...the bass does! We act like we know when conditions are right by looking at the environment we live in. The bass doesn't live in our environment. Same with timing, even though we think we know, we have no idea when big momma wants eat. How do we overcome this? Time on the water! Instead of trying figure out the right conditions or time, I simply go fishing everytime I can. I ain't saying I don't try to go when the conditions should be right. But I understand everytime I think I have them figured out they prove me I don't!- The Hawg Hunters
- When is a good spinnerbait scenario?
When is a good spinnerbait scenario? Anytime the water is wet ? I can guarantee you one thing, if you never throw one you certainly won't catch anything. Year round, morning, noon, or night I'll throw one!- The Hawg Hunters
Understand what structure is, how to truly identify it, interpret it, and then fish it effectively. Understand what the predominate prey species in your lake and how that species relates to structure with each season...morning, noon, and night. Understand that next after location is timing; just because you don't get bite does not mean the bass aren't there or you tied on the wrong lure. Structure that I know hold larger than average bass I never graph, I simply fish it. While prespawn/spawn is known for producing bigger bass, everybody & their brother is aware of this & it's the most pressured time of the year. I do my Hawg hunting at night during the Dog Days of Summer because I have the entire lake to myself. I also do extremely will during the dead of winter again because I have the entire lake to myself.- If you could fish with five BR members & five pros, who would they be?
On Toledo Bend heck yeah On Rayburn either Dicky Newberry or Albert Collins- 10 ft jon boat
My concern would not be weight capacity, it would be stability. Bottom width determines stability not beam. Beam is the measurement across the top of the boat & has nothing to do with stability since it ain't in the water. Bottom width is the part of the boat that actually makes contact with the water. Your Gamefisher probably has a 34-36" bottom width. These small jon boats are not designed to stand up in them much less build a deck on em.- Death, it's going to happen
Well I can't discuss this or I be banded!- If you could fish with five BR members & five pros, who would they be?
Ok I got 4 ? @LovestoFish We have an on going discussion about Toledo Bend for 4 yrs now. @riverrat I rented his camp on Toledo Bend last spring. Beautiful place in the middle of some of the best fishing on the lake. @A5BLASTER He's been round Toledo Bend longer than me! @RonnieF Another Toledo Bend junkie After these Toledo Bend junkies I would start with members who have been here as long & longer than me.- Cork vs foam/Eva vs Winn grips
Ya can't run fast enough to give me a EVA gripped rod! When EVA gets wet it stays wet & feels slimy to me.- Big 9” or 13” custom worms
Mr. Twister Hang 10 & Mag 12 Buzz Worm- Pre spawn big worms
IDK! I throw big lizards ?- Let's Talk Lipless Crankbaits
Caught a bass or two on Traps I'm a Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap guy, yes I throw em all but the majority of the time its Traps. First thing I do is change the hooks to Gamakatsu Aaron Martens TGW G-Finesse. On a 1/2 oz Trap I put a #4 in the front & a #3 in the back. A lot of time bass will slap at a Trap, get foul hooked, & pull off...not with these hooks. The Trap will run more nose down & doesn't plow into the grass as bad. Second will surprise y'all! I throw Traps on a 7' 6" flipping stick, most Trap guys down here do the same. When ripping Traps out of grass it's much easier with a stout rod. Line choice is 15# Fluorocarbon or 20# monofilament giving us the shock absorption. FYI: Color matters- Finding Fish Offshore
I still do a lot of paper map study & not your typical map y'all get from tackle warehouse. I get mine from USGS, they are survey maps. These are maps of the topography of the body of water before it was flooded. Today's electronic mapping was done after the lake was flooded. I take what I find on the paper maps, locate it on the electronic map, & then take it to the lake.- Humdinger Spinnerbaits
Not 100% but I believe they are stopping individual orders & will only sale to stores.- Swim jig vs spinnerbait
Santone Lures Chris McCall's Rayburn Swim Jig in Psycho Clown. Depending on the trailer I can make look like a shad or bluegill.- Humdinger Spinnerbaits
Every Wally World or country store in south Louisiana.- Finding Fish Offshore
Y'all got all the common most obvious structures listed but the devil is in the details. I don't see any mention of roadbeds, shell beds, changes in bottom composition, creek/river intersections, grave yards, house foundations, where farm land meet forest. Take @Team9nine advice get your hands on a complete copy of Buck Perry's books & read em through at least twice. For manmade lakes it would behoove you to study the surrounding area.- MLF Bass Pro Tour Toro Stage Two on Lake Fork, TX ~
How much I win ?- Who makes the largest lipless crankbait?
Deepwater structure & deep suspended fish.- If you could fish with five BR members & five pros, who would they be?
Y'all better practice night fishing! Picking 5 Pros would be easier than picking bassresource members. Might as well start with the first 5 members that picked me & go from there. Pros Hackney & fish south Louisiana Swindle, cause he's funny Andy Montgomery, down home guy, & need to get better at skipping. Larry Nixon, throw worms on Toledo Bend...again. Takumi Ito & Smallmouth Disneyland- Who makes the largest lipless crankbait?
Rat-L-Trap makes a 1 1/2 oz 4.75"- Ditches
Guess y'all don't fish roadbeds either? If y'all did ya know what a ditch is! It's where Big Momma hangs out! - River2Sea S Waver
