@WRB Tom we are a different generation! Yes you & I have stepped on each other's toes, bumped elbows, & bruises egos but at the end of the day we respected each other. I have dealt with the same things over my thread about Toledo Bend. Before I found bassresource other website members wanted GPS coordinates to prove what I was talking about. They didn't get em! So I was slandered relentlessly. It's kinda like everyone saying "no pictures, it never happened!". Anyway don't get me off on that tangent! Being a Cajun I started fishing at age 4 with a cane pole, moved up to a spin cast by age 7. While my dad taught the the fundamentals many people though out my life taught me the details. Mostly I learned on my own by walking & wading the swamps, marshes of Southwest Louisiana. I have a God given gift; when I look at a one dimensional topographical maps along with the one dimensional view on a depth finder screen I turn it into a three dimensional image in my minds eye. As a teenager I worked as a first mate on my Uncle Joe Addison's charter fishing boat in the Gulf of Mexico where he taught me to understand what structure is, how to truely identify it, interpret it, and the fish it effectively. During the early 70s I attended a 5 day seminar under Elwood "Buck" Perry. Before class, during breaks, during lunch, and after class I questioned him relentlessly. What I gleaned from Buck I added to what Uncle Joe taught me and completed my understanding of how fish relate to structure. While y'all see the obvious structure humps, ridges, points, ect, I see little subtle pieces of structure y'all over look. In my thread on Toledo Bend I've shown guys "honey holes" that were right under their noses and they had fished around them for years. 1972: Started bass fishing seriously on Toledo Bend at my father-in-law's camp on White's Point in the mouth of Lowe's Creek. Joined two bass clubs whose members included John Torian, John Hall, John Dean, Villis P "Bo" Dowden SR, Harold Allen, Larry Nixon, Tommy Martin, & Zell Roland all guides at Toledo Bend's Pendleton Harbor Marina. Since then I've had many members here teach numerous different things along many subjects.

So does my thumb ? 99.95% of the time when I backlash it's operator error. A lot of times I'm bank fishing under trees or on a trail though chest high or taller weeds & brush. So when I backlash it's from hitting something on the back cast or something off to the side. Barring hitting with my lure I seldom backlash, I know how to setup a reel, I know the part the rod plays in casting, at 70 my dexterity is still fairly good. If a DC reel gives you confidence ? I'll use my ?take the leftover money put on the gas tanks & go fishing.

The question is why would I want one?

Why certainly ? My grandson Aiden caught this under a dock next to the boat launch with boats pulling out & launching. That's the launch behind him.

I've never locked down a drag on any reel I've ever owned. Not even when frogging or punching. The drag is there for a reason! Everyone talks about locking down reels that have 25 lbs of drag, my poor Calcutta only has like 9.5 lbs drag max.

172' full pool is measured at the dam. If we look at the topography from Logansport south its on an incline. The north end will rise & fall before the dam area. Either way I take what published on anyone's website with a grain of salt. This is why I preach if ya wanna know what's going get outdoors. Are the Dogwoods blooming, are the Pecan trees budding? I was asked how the lake level can drop when SRA is not generating & the gates are closed. Trying to find a picture of the Toro Creek spillway during low water but apparently Google doesn't understand low water vs flooding. The Toro Creek spillway controls the lake level with a series of 11 flood control gates. In the very center of the spillway is a gate that never closes. This gate keeps the Sabine river from drying up. Many people don't understand the difference between the Sabine river generating part of the dam & the Toro Creek flood control part of the dam. Pulled a fast on me! I'm thinking south Louisiana & y'all up north in the Lake D'Arbonne area. I've spent many a day wondering around Jackson/Bienville WMA. Y'all got some big deer walking around in them woods. Sorry rabbit hole ? Y'all got some cypress tree in them there waters? The area around the base of cypress trees tend to have a "firmer" bottom. If you're in a boat with modest electronics you can find firmer bottoms. Flattery will get you everywhere!
