Started off with a bang this morning.

First two bass on the Scoretracker were 7 & 6 lbs respectively.

I like it.

I don't know why anyone would order one just because they saw someone have success with it.

DC caught a 10 in practice! I can’t wait to see a DD on this one.

Second period's underway.

Wheeler & KVD are setting the pace at this point.

Plenty of plus sized fish taken so far.

Very few small ones - non-scorable.

With just over an hour to go in this final period on the first day,

J Wheeler in on top.

Not a particularly new deal, I know.

What is a 'new deal' (at least in my world) and has been for a few derbies now,

is whacking bass on a jerkbait in the middle of the day, with high skies and flat calm conditions.

Which is exactly what Mr. Wheeler is doing - again.

Clearly that FFS deal is a big player.

But man, I have always given up on that bite once it flattened out.

Might think about sticking with it a bit longer and see what happens.

Also, starting a Go Fund Me for A-Jay's new electronics package could be a thing.

I need my active target dialed in like he does for sure. Or just use it half way as as good as he does.

I think FFS is going to drastically change the way people think about and approach catching fish, even those who don't have the technology but they see people have success doing things we didn't really think would work in certain situations.

I didn't get to watch, but when I checked the scoretracker and saw Wheeler was at the top and all fish were on a jerkbait, I knew it was the forward facing sonar (FFS) that he was glued to all morning.

I mean... it is a cool technology! Those poor fish! One more advantage for the humans....

Where (and on what) were the 11.11 and the 10 caught? Fishing nearby Fork on Monday in similar color water. Hunting for that one big prespawn bite vs a big sack.

Water temps today were 51 in the AM and 54.8 late day, 1 foot down. Didn't feel like early prespawn yet, more like late late winter, in that the fish were biting mostly the way they have been (places & presentations) for the last three or four weeks.

Day one for Group B is just getting underway ~

Conditions are looking pretty decent.

Sun and clouds mixed.

High 71F.

Winds S at 10 to 20 mph

Day one saw 40 over 5lbs.

Could today be better ?

That was quite a flurry at the end of that round.

That little red crankbait is about to sell out.

I always guess the weight before they way them and I am generally fairly close. However, when Andy Morgan catches one, I am about a pound off. LOL He must be a tall guy because they don't look as big when he is holding them.

Alton Jones calling 3 lbers little guys, I guess when you put an 11 in the boat that's the case.

I ordered three because if I only bought one I would probably lose it.

Have they said why the water level is so low?

They've been working on the dam and were supposed to be finished up, but I heard they found some more stuff that needed to be fixed, so refilling it has been delayed. Hopefully no so delayed that they miss so much of the spring rains that it won't get filled.

Things are going to get interesting later in the week. Weather is going to change drastically on Wed and Thur. Will be interesting to see how they do.

May be Thur and Fri down there, Wed and Thur will be here.

Wheeler gonna get me to pull the trigger on forward facing sonar

Don’t follow Josh Jones on Instagram

That boy is a freak of nature anyways without the FFS.  They should just let the rest of the guys have it and it might even the playing field when Wheeler is kicking their teeth in!  haha
