Favorite catfish bait ...??
the women's nylons to cover the livers sounds great actually!!! Obviously, i haven't tried it yet, but wow.......that's a great idea!! it will hold the bait, and let all of the scent trail out......this is why i love this site and everyone in it.....hopefully i get more ideas of this nature, and i am definitely gonna try the hot dogs as well now.

Favorite catfish bait ...??
I'm sure that ill get plenty of good idea's and responses from this one...i really want to hear what everyone loves to use..... as for me, i love fresh chicken livers, problem is they dont want to stay hooked very well, that is until the water hardens them up a little, but then they aren't all gooey and awesome still.... what do you all use for cats????????

Funny kid story :-)

Have you ever...
ahhh, man...this thread is horribly awesome. These amazing bodily functions always seem to happen with me when my old lady is around, its a real bummer too, because she usually gets grossed out.....where if i had my fishn'/drinkn' buddies around i would get nothing but praise!!!!!

Please help to identify
freshwater drum, eh....guess that explains why it so highly resembled a red......
-
UMmmmm! So tell me where I am wrong?
who really cares what it is, or how it looks for that matter. If it catches fish, then it catches fish..........I i could use my old lady's hair clip with a treble in it and catch fish then i wouldn't have to spend so much at BPS ;D

pics of top secret "lunker lake"...ssshhhh!!!
Thanks guys. Its nice to have a place where i can show the fish to people who actually appreciate them. The old ball and chain has grown bored over the last few years of constantly seeing all the pics...(she likes that i have a hobby that i love doing, she's just not all that interested in seeing them all the time now)..

Please help to identify
I hope someone can help you out.... i really want to know what that is as well.......although it does highly resemble a saltwater redfish, minus the spot on the tail,,,,kinda weird!! (PS....IM not a total moran and think that it is a red, its just quirky with the resemblance.)

wanted to strike up a little convo.
OK...so maybe im the oddball here, but i never fish the "elite" rods. i like to keep mine within the 40-70 $ range...i used to fish shimano rods, but now have fallen in love with the BPS microlite (md.lite action) for my bass applications. Some may call me crazy for this, but there's nonthin like hookin up with a large fish on a lite action rod!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New here.....

pics of top secret "lunker lake"...ssshhhh!!!
here is a few pics of some of the better ones i have caught in the last few weeks from my top secret "lunker lake" (as i have deemed it). Its a small pond/lake to say the least, and my buddy and I are the only one's to ever fish it (its great!!).. I always throw them all back as well............(you can see some houses that border it in one pic, but no one is ever fishing here except for me and my pal, so i you live in orlando and by some chance recognize this, consider it my present to you!)....happy fishing to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot believe it UPDATE
Wow!!! to say the least.... I guess i am fortunate enough to have a BPS within 15 min. of my house!! I've never tried the whole mail order aspect of it, and at this point dont intend too.

New Personal Best 4/12/09
congrats man....great fish, i wish that i had been fishing today as well!!

whats better
This will largely be a choice of your lure and conditions.....but most of all experience level if you have never used a baitcaster....Most all truly avid anglers will swear by a baitcaster (given the right lure weight and scenario), but they have their drawbacks........casting light lures, and casting into the wind (without experience!!)..Personally, i always use a spinning reel (shimano saros 3000), and love it........the baitcaster is admittedly better if experienced with it and using the right lure weight...if you are a novice and use only one setup with varying lure weights (from really light to heavy) a spinner is the way to go. They do have their drawbacks as well, such as line twist! Better spinners don't have the problem as much, but it is inherent.

bad hook sets
OK,,,,first I have had this same scenario happen many times. The first thing i did was sharpen the hooks to an amazingly needle sharp point!! Next, i am assuming that you are fishing "barbed" hooks...they take much more pressure to penetrate than barbless hooks. Ive seen a demonstration on Mark Sosin's show that was very telling on this matter....either way, my best solution is what i have started doing for years now........make sure your hooks are extremely sharp first, then after you have set the hook for the first time and reeled a slight bit of slack ...... give the line 2 to 3 hard pumps while keeping the line tight. this will ensure your hooks puncture rather than rest on the fish's mouth. (if you are using light lb. line i might recommend staying away from this technique though).... good luck!!
