  1. Not really tackle but I have to ask. Anyone use Save Phace masks? I really want one for winter time fishing. My buddy uses a full face motorcycle helmet. But I love the way these look. Are they any good? Opinions please.
  2. Texas Tackle Factory (TTF) Red Tamer, Laguna rods,Allstar,H&H,Wright & Mcgill (kevlar) Reels I use C4 and C3 only. forgot to mention that the red tamer is in the Lone Star supreme series on the website
  3. Wake-18' that is what I carry. I like to have all of the water I fish covered from top to bottom.
  4. Get a Hook N Line map and a sharpie. Ayish bayou which I believe Powell is in, there is Buck bay and Needmore point. Or leave Ayish bayou and head to Farmers Flats. the rest is just a list. that should be listed on a map. Five fingers, black forest, caney creek, veech basin, harvey creek. If you don't catch something in those spots, then i apologize. That's all I know. Also focus on the creek channels, where they meet and good drop offs. C rigs for the kids and Bomber fat free shad,DD22's and 10" c rig for dad. Junebug never hurts. good luck
  5. I don't know who makes them, but they are good hooks. I have used them and I think I still have some. Now I keep all of my hooks in pkg. But they are good, especially for the price.
  6. I do not know how you are fishing with that rod. But if you are jig fishing, this is how I usually feel the subtle bite. SIMPLE,I put my index finger or finger and thumb on the line before the level wind on the reel. Basically the hand I am going to use to reel with is the one I am going to use for this. Other than jig type bites sensitivity has never been an issue.
  7. How cold does it have to be for you to say no, It is too cold. I know some of you yanks ;D will have a different opinion. With your ice fishing and all, but I went on Dec 23 08. It was 27 degs outside. It was my first time to go fishing in the winter. My line guides were iced over and ice was peeling off of my line at the level wind. To me it was crazy. I had a good time and caught fish, on rat l traps to my surprise. But it was just to cold. BTW 27 degs is cold for southeast Tx. And don't be offended by the yanks thing, it's just a joke.
  8. Dude, IMO you nailed it. With one exception. I can't enjoy shakey head fishing. Way to much grass in the lakes I fish.
  9. Does using fluoro for topwaters make you baits sink? Like poppers or spooks?
  10. Awesome. My best on a UL is a 6# on 4# line. Bank fishing. It was on a frog bodied beetle spin. What a rush yours must have been. I jumped in thigh deep water to get mine.
  11. I use EWG on everything. The smallest I go is 3/0. but it does make sense ( at least to me) to go for the right size hook for the bait. For my 10" to 12" worms I am using 5/0 or 6/0. For my Ugly otters,Baby brush hogs and beaver style baits I am using a 3/0. I know a lot of people who use a 2/0 or 1/0 for wacky worm, but I preffer different.
  12. I personally like a little stretch in my line and a fast tip for my topwaters. I mostly fish hard topwaters with multiple trebles. I am not a fan of ripping the bait out of the fishes mouth. It seems like that would happen with braid and a stiff rod. With frogs being the exception, but I do not frog fish so I can not say.
  13. My favorite setup. First of all, I use carolina keepers so no tying leaders. brass weight one bead a clacker another bead and a carolina keeper. My personal favorite baits are 10" worms,8" lizards, brush hogs,Grande Bass Mutants,Gambler Ugly Otter,(beaver style) Big Bite Baits Yo mama. Falcon Original 7', Abu Garcia C4 4600, 14#Sufix Siege Camo.
  14. I could have worm fished , but I wanted to learn something. I am glad my dad had so much fun kicking my a** for the first time in a long time. It was my full expectation not to catch a lot of fish that day. I was going to learn to crank that day and that's it. I did'nt even bring all of my gear. Basically just cranks and a topwater. Only 4 rigs instead of my regular 12.
  15. Out of 12 setups, I only have one 7:1 reel. It is for lipless cranks only. The rest are 6:1 and 5:1 and they cover everything else.
  16. If you find some let me know.
  17. Stanley Icon,Wedge, or Minnowhead.
  18. I fish them very effectivly. Two ways. A steady medium retrieve just ticking the top grass, and a let it sink and rip up out of grass retrieve.
  19. I only use 3 brands Craftsman,Dewalt,Milwauke
  20. After a discouraging day fish this past saturday on a lake I really did not plan on fishing, I have decided to do some night fishing on one of the two lakes that I normally fish. I have NEVER night fished either of them. From what I have been hearing through the grapevine, the night bite really is not there in T Bend or Rayburn. Anyone with some input? Please let me know.
  21. I can't contact the bottom like my dad was. In south east Tx the lake bottoms (at least the ones I fish) are full of grass. I try to tick the top of the grass. I could have caught fish and c rigged, but I REALLY wanted to learn cranks. I pulled up a lot of grass especially on the DD22 and big Bomber fat free shad. I don't understand. I have friends that kill em on cranks. I just can't do it.
  22. I like Bandit and Strike King. Mostly Bandit.
  23. I am not saying it is, but it looks like a small bang o popper. its definatly not a hula
  24. Well I tried, once again to fish a deep crankbait. And once again came out with zero. I fished Bandit 300's for 9 ft range. Strike King series 3 also. Excalibur fat free shad's and DD14's. Bomber fat free shad's and DD22's for the 14 to 18ft water column. So I had from 8 to 18 ft covered. I used mostly shad colors. Tennesse shad, citrus shad, sexy shad and some others. Even my lucky ol Mad Cow Bandit( usually I get 1) did not work. I can not catch fish on cranks. I don't understand? My Lowrance says fish all around, my dad is pulling them up off the bottom with worms. The Lowrance says they are suspending in about 9 to 15 ft of water. Very frustrating.
