  1. i dont see how this is an accurate test though. seems like lots of variables are left out...an actual hookset is not comparable to hanging an 8lb weight from fishing line either...
  2. rip a red eye shad through and above the grass
  3. sorry about your bad luck, but maybe now youll learn to prepare a little better before even leaving your house. perhaps create a checklist of things to look over on the boat and do so the day before your trip. being prepared and organized can be the difference between fish and no fish
  4. unless a fish completely throws the bait off the hook/line while fighting it, i will get more fish than 2 off a senko. i will do things such as flip the senko over and hook from the otherside, or i will cut a bit off and re-rig it. the fish dont seem to care if its 5in or 4 7/8in...
  5. love the rage craws and the havoc pit boss equally...
  6. this...even the stripers at smith mountain lake love them on a jig head...
  7. seems to me that lowering the lake and cutting a few feet off each stump as suggested above would be the cheapest way, then you can let it fill back up. you dont have to completely drain the lake and the fish should be fine...
  8. keep falling for every marketing ploy thrown at you.
  9. technically youre right, but dont pretend you didnt know what the OP was talking about. no one says nylon when asked what kind of line they have, its always been mono...
  10. you can launch a boat as long as its by hand, and not backing a trailer down into the water. actually i believe the reservoir road side has an actual boat launch, but its not accessible for trailers or vehicles, as in its blocked off and you cant get a vehicle/trailer to it...also from my understanding, that side of the reservoir is closed and you can only access it from mt hope road at the moment...
  11. mono works for everything and is good line despite what the elitists say. and who cares about the fish seeing line, ive sat there and watched bluegill pick at and attack FC line which is supposed to be less visible underwater, yet they never attacked my mono line... im sure its more that people are simplifying things, youre just making it more difficult. if the OP were talking about FC or copoly they wouldve used one of those terms...
  12. sensitivity is in your hands, a $400 rod is really no more sensitive than a $50 rod...
  13. i read what you posted, but obviously you dont know what you yourself posted, as you mentioned none of this in your first post. dont try and change the topic you wrote about to something completely unrelated now. you complained about having to pay for a fishing license, and about people keeping fish when you catch and release. obviously its your choice to fish on US Forest land or at lodges at an extra cost, no one is forcing you to fish there. and you can keep fish the same as others if you wanted, once again thats your choice. if you want to be mad about something, be mad at the choices you made...
  14. i know exactly how you feel, being a Caps fan myself. So frustrating year after year...
  15. oh wow, i did not know all this was going on. sounds like theyre finally gonna make it more accessible to the public. hopefully they will open up some bank fishing areas and improve the parking there. the place is loaded with nice bass and crappie. theres even smallmouth in there. the banks used to be clean and easily accessible in the 80s when i fished there as a kid, you could even drive right up to bank fishing spots. i dont mind paying a fee to fish there so long as its easily accessible and not overgrown like it was last time i went there a couple years ago. place is a haven for ticks....
  16. you do realize its license fees that stocked a lake, maintain a lake, and possibly even built a lake that youre fishing on. how would you even launch your boat if there was no boat ramp built for you to use? oh, and you do know that sometimes fish die after you release them, even if they look good swimming away. and youre obviously biased towards bass fishing and catch and release, so what you think that only people targeting panfish, catfish, crappie, etc should be the only ones to pay fishing license fees to help maintain that lake? while you get to enjoy fishing it for free only because you target and release bass? and seriously, get realistic here, if youre riding around not fishing, youre boating. but if youre riding around tossing out lures or bait and trying to catch fish, regardless of species and regardless if youre releasing them, then thats fishing. and if someone has bought their license its their right to keep fish to eat if they so choose. who are you to tell me i cant keep a fish just because you believe in catch and release? im so sick of seeing this elitist attitude from so many(not all) bass fishermen, you know the one, where they think theyre so much better than everyone else because they catch and release...and now its taken a step further that you think you shouldnt have to buy a license? YOU make fishing look bad, not the guy who takes home a bucket of panfish or a stringer of catfish to enjoy on the table...
  17. Here is your original post.... and here is where youre changing youre argument from the original point to an argument about covering water. saying to someone to cover water is one thing, to say what you originally said about not casting to the same place twice is completely different.
  18. its bad advice dude. you said never make the same cast twice: if i hadnt made the same cast twice i wouldnt have caught any fish, much less several fish... i tried different plastics in that same spot as well: they only wanted the pit boss that day, ignored worms and senkos. etc etc etc you see where im going with this? also, what good is covering water quickly if youre not catching anything, i would much rather be thorough than fast. also, one of the best things you can do if not catching fish is to slow down, its fishing, not an NHRA drag race...
  19. as least now he has the whole day to talk on his cell phone without the threat of work interfering with it...
  20. aww man, i love rare breed. as if it wasnt strong enough before, its even stronger now. as little as a pint can have me straight hammered...
  21. For me, i fish for the relaxation of it and the peace of mind it gives me. its like taking a mental dump for me as well, purges out all the useless stuff from the back of my mind that i dont need to worry about no more or shouldnt be worrying about in the first place. when i take my several trips a year to smith mountain lake is really when all else in the world just doesnt matter for those few days. its mentally refreshing to go a few days without thinking about the normal every day routine and grind of life back home. just me, my poles, my bait and lures, and a cooler full of ice cold budweiser...
  22. bugs rarely decide to bother me for some reason, so i hardly ever use bug spray to notice myself. for some reason i dont get poison ivy/oak either though....
  23. i feel a fishing log is like work, and i go fishing to get away from work and the likes. also, i just view it as a waste of time for me personally. i dont need a notebook or spread sheet to look back at past experiences. i dont care what anyone says, you can have the exact same scenario in every manor possible on two separate days, and still what works one day might not work the next day even though everything is exactly the same.
  24. totally disagree here. last summer i was fishing an algae/grass choked pond. only when i stood in one spot and made the same cast, from the same angle, with the same bait, and same retrieve did i catch any fish that day. not saying i caught a fish every cast, but saying that was the only spot in the entire pond that i got bites and caught fish. you probably gave him some of the worst advice you could
  25. best advice would be talk to the people who manage fisheries in SD. Also, maybe the hatchery where you planned to buy the fish. Some fish are bred to survive certain waters in certain areas according to a local hatchery near my house. Other than that, i cant really give you an honest answer...
