Quality spinning reel around 150-200
go with the Pflueger, they make excellent spinning reels...

My biggest catch yet!
i keep a pair of those gloves around for when im catfishing. keeps from getting my hand all slimey and allows me to grab them in the mouth when their bellies are too fat to get my hand around... nice flathead...

Does this look like a good spinning reel?
I've never had that sideplate issue with my Supreme, but now i will be checking it just for due diligence. My Supreme has been excellent to me and so has my Trion. I just got two Presidents this year(a 35 size and a 40) but havent had much of a chance to fish them but they seem like excellent reels so far. I've never been dissappointed in any of my Pflueger spinning reels. They have great price points too, i would be hard pressed to be spending my money on other spinning reels as long as Pflueger continues to maintain their quality and excellence in spinning reels...

Best spinning real combo between $50-75
Here is what i would do, especially if flying to your destination. When you get there go to Wal-mart or a similar place, buy a cheap 20 dollar combo and use that for trout, when youre done give it to a local kid. You avoid having to travel with a rod/reel, and you make some lucky kids day...

Line curling
this. a little resistance on the line will take care of the coils. wether it be a weight tied on, casted out and reeled in a few times; or it be resistance from a lure like a crankbait or spinnerbait being reeled in, or and actual fish tugging on the other end of your line...

New to bass fishing
go with the ugly stik gx2 or the Lite Pro, those berkleys are prone to breaking. I've caught a lot of bass on my Ugly Stik Lite Pro 5'6 Light rod, up to 4.5lbs being the biggest, great for throwing weightless soft plastics too

Tons of Bass in this lake, no bites though in a YEAR!!!
I finally witnessed this spawning carp thing for the first time this year when at Smith Mountain Lake, they were rolling everywhere in large groups and typically close to the bank. though i did see some rolling in really deep water in front of a dam. my only regret was not throwing out a weighted treble hook and snagging a couple to use for cutbait for catfishing the nights i was there, and freezing the rest for later use...

What do you do when you get "bumped"?
sometimes using the same bait but changing the color will turn those little bumps into inhalations...

OK, So I'm a Jerk...
and whats your problem with this? so long as theyre legally fishing that is. It shouldnt bother you one bit. you fish your way, bucket fishermen fish their way. you can make all the assumptions you want, but it doesnt make you right and them wrong as long as know laws are being broken. i get pleasure from catching the fish, not showing it off to others... i agree 100%

OK, So I'm a Jerk...
do you really want to start this discussion again? as long as someone is fishing legally its their right to keep fish...

Losing Too Many Fish Lately
im speaking in terms of a viable way to test line stretch, not how to set your drag...

What Were They Trying to Do?
i dont think its a case of idiocy as many surmise, i think its actually pretty smart. get your bait to the bottom and keep it from drifting back parallel to the bank every 10 seconds. and i imagine the bait gets plenty action in the current. its pretty much just a slip rig...

Losing Too Many Fish Lately
i dont think even using that scenario aids you in any discussion...

Losing Too Many Fish Lately
i dont think hanging a weight from line is even close to being an accurate way to measure line stretch, there are just too many variables missing to measure it that way.

Bank fishing
define fishing them correctly please... i've caught senko fish by dragging them slow on the bottom(pausing and not pausing), dead sticking them, hopping/yo-yoing them, swimming them, burning them across the top, etc... a lot of baits are much more versatile than people think...

Smith Mountain Lake
I assume you mean love, and yeah i love fishing there too, its my favorite place to go in the entire world. just such a relaxing environment. its taken me over 10 years to learn to catch the fish i do in the lake though. im mostly limited to fishing from my uncles dock, but occasionally do get out on his boat for some fishing. i study lake maps for SML, and when the water was extremely low i took pictures of the dry lake bottom and shallow water areas around his dock and studied them. places i didnt know there was a stump there underwater, now i do. i know where rock piles are. i know where humps are, i know where the creek channel is even though i cant reach it casting from the dock. you should probably do some map study. the thunderstick is probably better thrown at night and parallel to the bank. but i have caught daytime largemouth on it in open water 3-6 ft deep. the jointed thunderstick has produced for me, the non-jointed one has not and appears to run funny in current. as for jigs, i have never caught a thing on a jig anywhere, but apparently they do work at SML on some of the deeper structure. there are lots of craws in the lake. how cruel is the lake? over ten years and im still waiting to catch my first SML smallmouth bass, it has eluded me for way too long...

Losing Too Many Fish Lately
FC line does have stretch. i dont think line is the problem at all in this instance. in fact many people here dont use braid when crank fishing because the no stretch properties of braid causes them to rip the lures out of the fishes mouth on hooksets/during the fight.

Bank fishing
are you fishing in a pond, lake or river? its much harder to catch bass from the bank of a large lake or river than a smaller pond

deadsticking for bass
i wouldnt define dead sticking as letting a bait sit 30 seconds then moving it. to me dead sticking is throwing your bait out and leaving it sit quite some time before moving it. I have a friend in NC, when we used to go pond hopping he always had a berkley red shad shakey worm he would throw out on a spinning reel, he would leave the bail open and prop his rod up somewhere. he then would go fish with another rod and keep an eye on the red shad worm rod. when he noticed his line slowly moving off the spool he would run for it and i swear everytime he caught probably what was the biggest bass or one of the biggest in the pond doing this. it might of took 45 minutes for that to happen, but it was ALWAYS a big bass...

Fishing line gets cut
you should try mono in 12lb Sufix Siege or Trilene XL, should be plenty for largemouth or peacocks. until you learn a little more about lines ignore all the talk of backing for braid and leaders and the likes. also be sure not to spool too much line onto the reel, leave about an 1/8inch lip around the spool on your reel. but it really would help if you could tell us the size of your reel, if you dont know then post a picture of it...

How many fish have you caught this year?
whens the last time you were skunked? can you even remember lol
