Don't overcomplicate things for a 10 year old kid. I don't honestly think leaders are needed with braid most of the time anyway but especially not for a kid learning.

Mono is also easier to deal with when he makes an errant cast into a tree or gets hung up. 10lb is probably what I would start with.

I'm not a fan of bulky coats and live in TX where it doesn't usually get very cold, so it's hoodies for me all winter long. I also have no hair, so a hood is mandatory. I have and wear zip ups and pullovers. I have different weights for different temps and different layering options. If I'm wearing it like a jacket and plan to take it off, I prefer zip up. If I plan to keep it on all day like a shirt, I like pullovers.

No I haven't. I saw them mentioned somewhere and decided to pick some up. Apparently these are a collab with Catch Co, if you go to tightropefishing.com they have the same jigs that aren't the collaboration. I'm not sure what is different other than the weedguard and maybe some colors.

A few more Christmas sale items came in today. I’m hoping the 743 will be good for 1/4oz swimjigs and these small finesse jigs. This is my first non cranking Dobyns but it feels great and balances well with the Steez. Also had to get a couple of Rozantes and Nanahans from the small jerkbait thread ?

It doesn't have a max weight. It's a magnesium framed reel with an SV spool, designed for more finesse applications. It can be used for anything but it's not considered a heavy duty reel. The Steez A has an aluminum frame and holds more line and is generally more robust.

I would get a Steez A or one of the new Steez A 2's for the techniques you listed.

That is sweet! I tried to buy an Enox BMJ from TW a few months ago but there was a mix up in their system and I never ended up getting it. I definitely want to try one though and their custom options are very intriguing.

LC Pointer 78 and Megabass Trick Darter are my 2 most productive small jerkbaits.

SV spools are just generally very forgiving. It isn't about the size. They have a stronger braking profile that helps prevent backlashes, which in turn is good for skipping. The downside is that most people report they don't cast as far as other non-SV reels. I am far from an expert and someone else might have more specific info but that's the gist of it. I can't help you with the Tatula comparisons as the only ones I own are the original Type R series and they are very different than the newer ones.

Agree with Tatulalard, those SV spools excel at lighter line and lighter baits. Soft plastics and finesse applications are generally what people use them for but it doesn't have to be limited to that. It should make a great skipping reel too if that's your thing. As mentioned, there are a ton of 34mm spools that open things up for that reel.

What model Steez is it exactly? Some are general use and some are finesse oriented for throwing light baits.

You’re a hard guy to buy for so I went with baits that have worked well for me this year. Oddly enough, I’ve had good results using those smaller Bellows Sticks as finesse jig trailers, so that’s why I threw them in. Merry Christmas! I use a mixture of Simple Green and water in the tank for cleaning most everything and acetone in a small jar for bearings. Mine is one of the rectangular ones sold on Ebay that was about $100, I don't know what brand it is but it was well worth the money.

Hmm.....That's an interesting theory. I'm a big fan of glass rods for crankbaits but not really for topwater baits. I haven't used either rod but the poppers would probably rule out glass for me.
