  1. It is a $30 rod, you get what you pay for. That being said, I have never had an issue with powerpro or fireline braid cutting guides on any of the rods I own. You want a rod that can fish 3/8 - 1/2oz jigs, big worms, carolina rigs and swimbaits... In the $100 range: BuCoo Casting BCC-6-17 H 8 12-25 lb 3/8 to 1oz. 7' $109.99 Will do everything you want and cast light swim baits. Your not going to get much more out of a rod than light swimbaits that will also do well in all the other areas you seek. Most technique specific swimbait rods are all rated in the multiple ounce range. But you will be able to throw light swim baits with that without a doubt. If your looking for a more expensive rod I'd say as dink suggested the Powell Flipping Rod 7'6" Mag-Hvy 766 is rated for 1/4oz - 2oz lures, so that would let you toss heavier swimbaits, I am planning on purchasing this exact rod in the near future as my heavy flipping / swimbait rod.
  2. Some of you may remember a few weeks ago I had purchased an STX on ebay, received it and it turned out to be either a) the wrong ratio reel or a different handle that wasn't part of the original reel. Well I had called the seller, who treated me a bit poorly telling me I should just sell it off to someone and finally agreed to refund my money if I sent the reel back first. Well I played it safe, filed a dispute through paypal, got all the info in there, seller never replied in the paypal dispute. I called the seller once again and was told they had responded in paypal and I must just not be able to see it and to send the reel back immediately or I would not get a refund. I once again called paypal and explained this to them, they checked everything and stated that the seller had attempted to post no comments about the dispute, and recommended I escalte the case to a claim. Well I took their advise, wrote up a little summery of what had taken place, and the paypal rep escalated it to a claim for me. Both the seller and I were sent emails, stating that the seller had 10 business days to respond to the claim and work out a plan ie: seller formally agrees in paypal to refund me upon recipt of the reel. Well 10 days went by and the seller never responded... I contacted paypal this morning and they refunded the money to my account and notified me it was my option to now return the reel or keep the reel, that they do not require or expect me to return the reel as the seller had been given ample time and notification of the situation. So now I have my money returned to my account and the STX still sitting on my desk. Debating to be the nice guy and return it or just keep it.
  3. I would want it on anything I was throwing into pads. That being said, it is a personal preference, Dan made some good points yesterday about mono being sufficient. I have used Fireline Braid and recently tried out the Power Pro, so far I am prefering the Power Pro. But its really like comparings apples to apples. Never thrown the suffix braid.
  4. What kind of braid are you using? I've used fireline braid and powerpro and had no issues with this on any of my rods. I have heard some of the older braids did before they started making them rounder... maybe try switching. If your looking at the $100 range, I would go with the BuCoo over the mojo any day of the week. The Falcon BuCoo 7' H. Will let you throw light swim baits, frogs, flip and pitch jigs etc. I recently handled one at Cabelas and I was very impressed for the price, not as nice as the higher end $200+ price tag rods but for a $109 for the 7'H it was extremely nice. There are also some good reviews on the forums about them that I have read.
  5. I would talk to him and see if he knows the regulation. If not explain it to him. If he is a jerk, report him. Problem solved.
  6. wait what? That doesn't make sense... lol

If you are fishing pads, you want 65# braid. No questions asked no exceptions. I don't agree with that. It's not going to be optimal, but you could get away with 20lb Hybrid, just make sure you get the fish to the surface as quick as possible. Well, the break point of a lilly stem is around 16-18# if I remember correctly, get a 4-5# fish on there wrapped around 1 stem and your in trouble. Not to mention if he dives and gets around 2 stems or add in the slop... I'm going to have to respectfully disagree Dan, The 20lb hybrid may be sufficient for recreational angling, but in a tournament situation there is no way I would touch it fishing frogs.
  9. Thats a tough one... was hard between rage toad and zoom horny toad for me. But had to go with the horny toad. I prefer black with blue legs or solid white. (The chartreuse used to be my go to but it is now out of production, JJ's Magic can be used on white ones and works pretty well.) I use an Owner 5/O Twistlock hook.
  10. ... i just threw up a little bit in my mouth.
  11. may have to try this on my Revo S thats a bit beat up. Tutorial would be great! Paint types / clear coat etc.

If you are fishing pads, you want 65# braid. No questions asked no exceptions. Tighten the tension knob or something... I don't really see what the difference is between birds nesting with braid or with mono, takes equal effort to get it out. Shouldn't be fishing a tournament with gear your not comfortable and confident in.
  13. Whats football without a little trash talk
  14. Yeah like these Appalachian guys who think they got a shot in their first game
  15. Yeah but the Ima Roumba's are worth every penny of that $16 (The albino is my favorite though not a dark color like your seeking). If you think $16 is a lot don't get into swim baits Other things you could try, black on black buzzbaits ( I prefer cavitron but any will do). Just so many good things to choose from... poppers, spooks, prop baits... take your pick. Maybe a black horny toad
  16. I was looking for something similar and a friend mentioned to me that 60-100# mono works very well to achieve the same effect your trying to.
  17. Top one is probably around 3#- 4oz big head but he's thin. Good catch none the less. Try some zoom horny toads in white or black... and hang on.

*Rated R equivalent*, don't waist your time if you don't like crude humor. These guys have some pretty funny stuff. I laugh everyday when I go to work how much this video relates to how I view my boss, at least in the beginning, then it just gets a little crazy.
  19. Anyone tried this out? Thoughts on it? Comparisons to KVD Line Conditioner?
  20. looks like he saw someone else pull a 10#er out of his spot while he was taking the pic! ;D
  21. I don't drink on the water, shore fishing is another story though.
  22. If UV rays and minerals that are natural in fresh water can degrade line over time I'm sure chlorine takes a toll on it.
