  1. I was lucky enough to get my wife, mother, and the in laws to pay for my first steez combo, god bless gift cards. She went total psycho when I walked out with a thousand dollars in one hand. It was worth it, and the monkey wants a new high speed combo.
  2. The mojo bass rod at eighty dollars or so feels better than the orange tool sticker, for almost half the price, and a revo sx works just fine on a lightning rod. But hey if you like being seen from a mile away, and looking like a tool, stick with that high dollar rod.
  3. Easy killer, your gonna screw it up for the rest of us who don't spout off.
  4. I have two of the 7ft mh on my revos. I've never seen a kistler, and the whole hunter orange thing is lost on me. My rods work fine with mono, and floro, but never use braid on a lightning rod. They work just fine for red I shads and traps over grass. At forty bucks they work just fine, plus you don't look like a tool on the water.
  5. I'm sorry if I came off as a smart ***. I thought you were moving up to the next tier of round reels when you got sold on last years overstock. my mistake.
  6. They sold you another shimano, I don't know witch model they sold you, but you didn't upgrade, you just bought a more expensive reel with the same features as your old reel. Maybe a better drag, weighs less, faster retrieve and few more bearings, but hey if you think you got a deal roll with it. My Cardiff upgrade would be a Calcutta gtb, or dc.
  7. I use a 7 ft mh rod for most of your list, I use a 7ft medium rod for top water. I don't carolina rig, and I don't use spinnerbaits.
  8. The majority of my fishing time is spent on bass, so I use a bait caster for everything. When I fish I power fish, with lures anywhere from a 1/4 oz to 1oz so a bait caster works better for me. I keep a few spinning, and spin cast reels around for my son and his friends to go jerk bluegill and crappie off the side of the boat. I have nothing against a spinning reel, until I learned how to use a bait caster I used a pflueger president, and an abu cardinal. I feel more comfortable with a bait caster. I might not be able to throw a 1/16 oz jig, but I can haul a big bass straight to the boat all day.
  9. I've never had a problem with price matching at bps, it might take a few minutes but they always come through. The Springfield store will match cabelas, and TW on all reels. I have friends who are vendors for bps, cabellas, wal mart, so I rarely pay retail for anything other than hooks and weights. I hope the poster enjoys his new JM signature reel.
  10. Any fluorocarbon clear white, black, or green has a better chance of getting the big bass bite. Green mono will work in most lakes, just like the clear mono. Green line blends in, red line sucks, and fluorocarbon works the best. I would go with the clear, just not the berkley brand.
  11. Try the elbow technique, use your elbows, not your arm, and back. On a six pin reel push all the brakes in then using only your elbows make a cast.
  12. As I said before, a split grip rod is a pimp/show off thing. My high end reels are paired with high end rods. My steez is mounted on a steez rod, one of my zillions is on a TD light and tough rod, and my new curado is on a new cumara rod. My point is if you buy the high end gear a split grip is a non topic. For the part time, or half time fisherman who mainly use spinning gear you dont need a split grip unless you're out for looks.
  13. I wont deny that my mojo with the awesome reel and reel grips looks sexy, it doesn't fish any better than a full cork handle. Sensitivity is in the tip genius.
  14. The BPS extreme is a great reel for the price and application. My base price on any reel is over three hundred bucks. I fish everyday, and a few tournaments so I need a reel that can take the everyday abuse and keep up with me. The extreme, and most other house reels are good for part timers/weekend crowd.
  15. I think it is way over priced, but it is a good reel for beginners.
  16. You don't need a split grip . If you are convinced that you need a split grip take the cherrywood back and get the Berkley AMP. A split grip has nothing to do with casting, they just look cool. Split grips look cool, but I can still cast just as far or better with a solid cork rod.
  17. I have the 7 ft mh spinnerbait mojo with an a nice Japanese reel that can flip and pitch all day on the front of the boat. I can also take it to the pond in the evening hours and open cast it for a mile. If you want a relatively cheap split grip rod the mojo is the way to go.
  18. I didn't pay for my steez, or the revo sx. I want to thank whoever came up with gift cards. Any reel of any brand is only as good as its user. Dont go out and blow two hundred plus bucks on a brand just because you think it will throw farther. If you cant control backlash with your thumb, a new reel of any brand wont help that.
  19. I use braid for red eyes, or traps because mono has to much stretch. I use mono on top water, and floro for the rest. I used to throw heavy braid in cover but a floro in the 17lb range works well for me.
  20. I hope strike king rolls out a knocker red eye in rayburn red, and tillapia. As for new reels mine still work just fine.
  21. I have tried all of them, even the skeet, and the winch. I still go back to the SX.
  22. I've had great luck with the bps 17 lb fluorocarbon.
  23. High dollar reels don't catch more fish, my five hundred dollar steez was out fished by a 33, and a wal mart micro lite last weekend. The high dollar reels are for the pro, or avid non tourney fishermen who need a reel that wont fail under pressure.Bass fishing is just like golf, you start out with always save cheap gear then the monkey shows up. The spinning reel will work just fine too as long as it has a tough drag
  24. The e7 is a great reel, the vbs takes some practice so good luck.
