Academy's Tungsten weights
We finally may have a somewhat decent alternative to Tru-Tungsten at a reasonably affordable price... Yay!

Academy's Tungsten weights
I was just browsing Academy's new flier for this week, and I notice now they are selling Tungsten weights in their "H20 Express" brand. I can tell much from the catalog, but I will be going to Academy Tuesday and plan to look at some. Has anyone else seen these yet?

Buzzbait Bass
I had my scale with me, but the stupid batteries were dead. ;D I did get the measurements though. it was a tad of 20 inches.

Buzzbait Bass
After a short hiatus for bluegrassing, I am back to cause more trouble on our wonderful forum! I had a awesome trip the last two days. Around 6:00 P.M. I arrived at my favorite pond. It was lightly overcast, temps of around 80. Caught two on a Rapala Original Floated in gold, and eight on a buzzbait. These mark my first buzzbait fish. Quite an exciting way to catch bass, and addicting too. I caught 10 in a little over two hours, although none of them exceeded 1lb. The next morning is when the fun really began. I got to the pond and 6 A.M. and started again with the Buzz bait. I caught 2-3 more dinks, then noticed a big hub-bub a little way from me. I cast my buzzbait into the middle of a stump forest, and thought I had gotten snagged while before I could get my buzz bait on top of the water. Then this fish started pulling drag. It was the biggest bass I've caught to date, unfortunately my scale died, so I don't know the weight. I thought someone here might could help me with that. I'm holding the fish at arms length, with the camera held up to my face. I am guessing it was 3-4lbs. I also caught my first T-Rig fish

Two week trip
Just wanted to let you kind (and not so kind) folks know I'll be gone for a couple of weeks. Heading out to my first Bluegrass festival of the year. I'm ready to practice the three F's in my signature. Hope I don't miss anything to important. Talk to you all soon. Matthew Luce

Ugly Stick with braid?
The Lite version uses stainless guides. Really, since it is only $40 I would use the fire out of it for a year or so, and then go buy another if I wore the guides out.

FILPPING AND PITCHING...FISHING
MAYBE IF YOU TURNED OFF THE CAPS LOCK, SOMEONE WOULD ANSWER YOUR QUESTION. ONLY TYPING IN CAPS IS CONSIDERED RUDE AND IS DIFFICULT TO READ. Now, onto your question. Generally if you are going to be flipping, your going use a heavy rig. So it could be made for the higher weight spectrum. Also, many Shimano reels come with a larger than normal volume of grease and oil in them. Maybe try getting it professionally cleaned and see if that helps it.

Your tackle buying strategy?
I was just looking through my tackle bag, and started to think about something. What percent of your tackle do you pay full price for? About half of my collection has come from garage sales (I've found 20 brand new packs of soft plastics for 25 cents each, NIP spinners and cranks for $1), and sales/clearances/closeouts.

stupid question?
There should be a screw right next to the Abu Garcia logo on the crank side. Unscrew it and the palm plate should come off. See the last image of this page. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewaburevosx.html

Mann's Baby 1-minus Alternatives.
I found one of a Baby 1-minus at a clearance bin at Wally. I really like the bait, and I have gotten some good fish on it. I also like it because it is hard for a shorebound klutz like me to snag it. Now, against the day that I lose it-- what are you favorite similar baits. I know companies like LC and Megabass are good, but I'm thinking more in the 5-10$ range.

Shimano Clarus spinning rod
Then I would go with the 7'. I feel it gives you more control and backbone; plus you eek' out a little more casting distance.

Going to try an Avid
The Avid Pearl is fuchsia, not pink. Knowing the difference between fuchsia and pink is not helping your case. If you hold out, maybe you can get the Dancing with the Star - Tom Bergeron Signature Series BTW, who do you think will take home this season's mirror ball trophy: Nicole or Evan. Dang, I'm whipped Eh, maybe he is going to move to California to fish it? ;D

Shimano Clarus spinning rod
I have a 7' Med Fast spinning rod (not a Clarus). I really think for a shorebound angler a 6'6" or less is preferable. If your going to be throwing cranks and worms, I would definitely go with the M Fast taper. I just recently purchased a M F rod, and I really enjoy the action. I think it is a really good balance of fast and slowness. You can't go wrong either way though.

What rod should I get for baitcaster?
IMHO you should wait till 40 becomes 70-80. So many good choices in that range. Clarus, Vendetta, Carbonlite, Premier, and I could go on and on.

Something to brag about.
Looks like Christmas in May is here for me! I have been talking to several builders, and getting estimates for a custom rod. I settled on EJTaylor, because he does beautiful work, and also because he gave me a truly unbelievable good deal on this rod. Sorry for the pictures. I'm still not completely used to this new camera. It is 6"8 Light 1/4-5/8 oz with a moderate (more like mod-fast IMHO) built on a Castaway blank. Never trying a CastAway blank before, I was pleasantly surprised. It really is quite sensitive. I cast a pitched a 1/4oz. jighead around, and with my eyes closed I could tell when I was going through grass, sand, or gravel. American Tackle Aero spinning reel seat, custom made cork/burl cork handle, splits with no foregrip, marbling, a tiger wrap between the splits, a beautiful gloss blue finish, and chrome Alconites in the New Concept layout. It also has my class rod inscription: "Matthew Luce, A Beka Academy, Class of 2012". It balances perfectly with my Shimano Sedona 2500. Let me tell you all something. If you have ever even thought about getting a rod from EJTaylor-- do it! He is wonderful to deal with, and I would order another custom in a heartbeat if I had the money. Now for the fun part-- Pictures! I never realized how much difference custom made. I could have gotten a fairly nice off-the-rack rod for this price. It almost feels like it has some inherent "mojo" to it from being hand made. ;D

Just to clarify
I bet a lot of people loose there baits because of not losen they're drags!

I'm sure it is a wonderful site, but google translate makes it say interesting things. For example, in the article about guide cleaning it says... "Please see I-Ku guide. It's evidence that if you neglect your daily Penicillium seems like floating. If you clean rag and cleaning focused on the state if clean water. Let's not forget to wipe the frame and followed the guide." Good way to kill some time. ;D

Braid Recommendations
My grandpa who has used every braid since the old kevlar stuff only uses two kinds. The old Stren Superbraid, and PP. He spooled up with some Ultracast Invisi-braid when he didn't bring any of his own braid with him. Me and him neither one liked. Very prone to splitting and fraying, and it is almost sticky so casting isn't that great either.

Braid Recommendations
That's a lie, you had 80 lb. Spiderwire braid on all of your Zebco 202's when we fished together last summer. that was spearmint flavored dental floss. It's almost identical to FireLine but way cheaper. Wow, I've never thought of that. Wonder if my dentist can get me 1000 yd. spools? Do you think the spearmint flavor increase or decreases the number of strike you get, and should I use a FC leader?

Bought a reel for my son
Isn't this one of the BPS reels that are made from carbon fiber?
