  1. Alright sorry, It's an h20 express topwater. Someone else post one then. ;D
  2. During these boring winter days (there's not supposed to be snow on Oklahoma) I thought of something fun to do. After seeing all these "Plz Identify this lure" threads, and seeing the mad scramble of guesses I though this might be fun. Each person post a picture of lure (crankbait, buzzbait, crank, or topwater), and see if we can guess it.
  3. Is that a Flambeau AZ3 tackle bag? If it is, I have the exact same one. Neat idea with the extra boxes on top BTW.
  4. My Grandpa tried to convince me that Tennessee handles were the next big thing since sliced bread. They really don't do it for me. You tape you reel onto the rod (Teflon tape or plastic first aid tape works well). It's a major pain if you switch reels very often. The main advantage is no metal parts in cold weather.
  5. Well, this is the first winter I've ever spent after taking up fishing. This is one of the most painful winters I can remember. Seeing as how I can't get out on the water, I decided I needed something to occupy my time. I'm thinking about ordering some painted jig heads (no skirts) and making my own skirts to go on them. I have a few question for you jig guru's. Do you prefer hand-tied or banded-- which is easier? What is a tab? Is there some kind of tutorial I can check out for making skirts? Thanks a bunch.
  6. Hello everyone! We've seen many topics about Academy's house brand of mono (h20 express) lately, so I though I would bite the bullet and try some out. It costs $4.99 per 330 yards (0.02 per yard before tax). I feel that this is a good quality line for a great price. It comes packaged in an attractive blue and silver foiled package. I will be testing six lb. test in clear. The first thing I noticed was the limpness, and low memory. I would say it's comparable to Suffix Siege. Another thing I noticed, the line has very low stretch. When wet or dry the line would never stretch more that an inch before breaking. Both wet and dry tests showed the line breaks around 7 and 1/2lbs. The next thing I did was spool it onto my beater ul spinning setup. (An old zebco telescopic rod [.50 at garagesale] and a quantum bill dance 2000 sized reel [10 bucks at walls]. Almost zero memory in casting I was throwing a 5/16oz lead sinker. The line flowed very smoothly off the reel. Even when casting into a slight head wind (4-5mph) I did not experience any windknots. Another thing I noticed-- while dragging that sinker across our gravel driveway, I could feel very clearly when the sinker fell off one piece and onto another. I will definiting be using this mono on my crankbait and Ul rigs from now on. When the weather warms up some, I'll finish this review after some time on the water.
  7. Another thing to think about are garage sales. I've found many full bags of soft plastics for 25 cents each. Just the other day I got four brand new War Eagle spinners for a buck.
  8. I really enjoyed the game on the Xbox. There were two gems in the campaign imho. The level "We don't go to Ravenholm" (zombie-esque) one, and the final level. Nothing is more fun than using human bodies as shields/projectiles.
  9. I don't know if you'd want to hang these around you neck, but Gerber makes an awesome 2.5" pair of scissors made for cutting line. I love them to death. They sale for $2 a pair at Academy.
  10. A local discount store (Walls) has a small fishing section. They have, among other things, a very large collection of Yamamato baits, mainly Hula Grub and 6"grubs. They have a great color selection, and the bags are only 2$ a pop. Now, they (the bags) do look old; however, the plastic is still soft and supple. Do you think the baits would have any adverse effects from being old? Thanks Matthew
  11. I received an Academy house brand bc reel (Mettle) for Christmas. This was the first reel I've ever used (or even messed with for that matter) with centrifugal brakes. Well, I was ready to try her' out. So I pop open the side plate, and go to adjust the brakes. PING!!! One of the little brake weights goes flying into oblivion, never to be seen again. Now my question is this. Is the missing brake the same as one in the off position? If so, It won't affect braking performance-- correct? If not, my only option will be to steal a break of a display model ;D
  12. MattinOK replied to bilgerat's topic in Fishing Tackle
Aww.... Now is it time for a group hug?
  13. I have a premonition of the future. By 2010 we'll all be a year older.
  14. You've worn the same pair of boots for 35 years?! Wow... That is nice sturdy pair of boots right there. ;D
  15. My brand loyalties fall within the clearance bin! ;D
  16. How many different colors of the exact same plastic do you carry. I always try to have two colors of my baits at all times. I like green pumpkin or watermelon for murky water, and I prefer a black back/silver belly color for clearer water. What about the rest of you?
  17. Having a circulation problem in my legs and feet; this time of year my feet always get cold. I wear 800 gram Thinsulate waterproof hunting boots with 100% wool socks. You'll get used to the scraty-ness when you start appreciate the warmth. Wool will still insulate when wet, so that's a plus too.
  18. X2 not that I would swear like that, but if I did :'( :'( :'( > :-X
  19. Did you ask an associate? Sometimes they hide the good deals at my Academy, and I have to ask. For example: On Black Friday I wanted to buy one of the six piece swimbait kits for $30. They had it on an end-cap BEHIND the rods on that end-cap. It took me three different stock monkeys to find it.
  20. Another reason to physically remove Florida from the US. Gators, boa constrictors, Hurricanes, big man-eating fish. Nothing good comes from Florida :-X
  21. hahahahahahahahahahahhaahaha -breath- hahahahahahahahahahaahhahahah How can he laugh so obnoxiously so long?
  22. A few more good deals for Christmas 6 piece h20 express frog kit for $10 5 piece h20 express assorted crank kit $10 and my favorite senko alternatives http://www.academy.com/index.php?page=content&target=products/specials/hot_deals/fishing&start=0&selectedSKU=0171-03424-1000 They usually sell for $3 for 8 so that's a great deal. These have great salt content and shimmy.
  23. I really love academy's house brand hooks. They say made in Japan on the package, so I think they are rebranded Gamagatsu. They sell for $2.50 for a 10pack or $5 for 25. They are a great hook at a great price!
  24. I was going to order a few. I have not used Ti before, but I know it gives you a better feel for what's going on. Just haven't been able to justify the cost. Ti is titanium, W ("wolframite") is tungsten
