  1. Too bad you don't know someone that can build you a Rod with the seat and grip you want. ?
  2. The OG zillion is a workhorse. The new version can't hold a candle to it.
  3. If your fishing slop with a frog or otherwise larger guides are the way to go.
  4. Half the brakes on is a good starting point but everyone and situations are different. Trial and error is the only way to get your answer.
  5. The problem is not in design but rather the handling of the inexpensive store combos. I can go on any given day and find one on the shelf with no cap at all. Just swap it and you should be fine. Look stuff over closely before buying.
  6. Neither is "better" it's just s matter of which features are important to you.
  7. Look at the lure weight ratings instead of the power label to get a better idea how the rod will fish. St croix's idea of m, mh and Hvy tend to be a little heavier than others.
  8. Where's the break ? Maybe repair is an option?
  9. That's my understanding. I use a couple belly guides right after the stripper. I lay out my spiral wraps so the transition guides just keep the line off the blank not part of the actual guide train. It's a little harder to accomplish with a slow or revolver wrap.
  10. I did a rewrap on an couple Allstars last summer . The spacing wasn't too bad but I didn't follow it exactly. Lightening the guide train did wonders for the rods.
  11. That's a good deal. A spools $30 give or take with shipping.
  12. Looks right from what I can see from this angle. If worn the leading edge will have a groove in it. I'm pretty sure cleaning and oiling the rest will take care of it.
  13. Yup. Simple Green, perfect solution etc will do as well. I also dip in alcohol to displace raining moisture and speed drying.
  14. A clean bearing will spin easily and quietly and come to rest gradual not stop suddenly. If they've been neglected for ten years they may be worn out. Can't say for sure with out see them in person.
  15. A smaller stripper without appropriate hight is counter productive. The same performance can be achieved with other guide trains like Fujis KR concept but the Microwave spinning absolutely works and is a no brainer to setup for novices.
  16. The only part I disagree with is the need to disassemble. Shielded bearings are greased too and they can be flushed thoroughly without tampering and a roller clutch is no where near as tight. Every time the rollers are popped out and pressed back the fitting is stressed to some degree. Like I said though there's more than one way to skin a cat.
  17. They aren't a terrible reel. The same holds true for most reels. my recommendations will help you get the most from it without pouring money down the drain.
  18. I think you're torturing yourself needlessly. 10# braid is ideal for a small spinner like that for handling, casting and presentation. If you're hell bent on Fluoro I'd limit it to 5# on that small a spool and use conditioner.
  19. There's more potential harm than good to come from tampering with the components of a roller bearing. Completely unnecessary. But to each his own.
  20. The frame is the base of he whole reel. If you want s metal frame wheel you need to factor that in your purchase. Even if available it wouldn't be cost effective. Flush the bearings and consider a Carbontex drag and maybe super tuning.
  21. See if the kick lever that the ratchet hits is deeply grooved. A deep (frame off) cleaning may very well free up the clutch assembly.
  22. How fast a car, or pretty of a girl should you have ? Kidding aside Roadwarriors list of three starting combos is dead on. Welcome and enjoy the forum and the sport. No pressure.
  23. Of all the reasons to use a leader line shyness is at the bottom of my list. Coloring the line is easy if it gives you confidence won't hurt anything.
  24. The K2 is what I was referring to and agree pricey is a better adjective than over priced. They are nice blanks.
