  1. Pro or No-Pro, no one wants to ask their Father-in-law for help!
  2. Looks like the guy in the back's gonna' turn the outboard with his elbow and watch the other two take a dunk.
  3. Is C size thread too big for tying guides on a 9' 8wt SC III graphite blank? Appearance and action wise? Thanks for your thoughts!
  4. Can anyone direct me to a set of instructions to modify a pair of pliers to make a tool to remove/replace the pin that holds certain reel spools on the shaft? I had it and lost now can't find it again. Grrr Thanks
  5. I was up there several years ago. The lake is shallow and weedy. It's better known for producing good size large mouth. I would think this would be a good time of year as the fish move shallow again. Thousand Islands are close by and has better smallie action I think. You could easily do a combo trip. Several good camps and cottages available. I stayed at Roger's Camp Cottages. Have fun & Good Luck!
  6. There are several links in the "Rod Building Newbies with Questions" thread. One is for the Rod Builders Forum or just google it. Basically, you spread clear epoxy and add a drop of whatever color paint pigment you chose and gently create swirls with a tooth pick or brush. I haven't tried it yet but that's what I remember reading. Good luck!
  7. Welcome! You'll find this site informative AND fun on many levels. Enjoy & tight lines!!
  8. Like you, I fish almost all small ponds and lakes from the bank. I'm in Milford, PA and fish Pike County and Sussex County NJ. The dam, inlet and outlet are always good because they are one of the few pieces of structure available. Look for any visible cover, logs, over hangs, weed or depth lines and throw baits to imitate the forage base available. Use faster/slower presentations based on the mood of the fish. When they start feeding heavily in preparation for winter the senko and other finesse presentations aren't as critical. Cranks, spinners and worms should get you bites. Post your results and I'll do the same. Good luck!
  9. I believe the octopus and circle hooks are designed to not require a hook-set. You just take up the slack and apply light pressure against the fish and as he swims off the hook turns and embeds in the corner of the mouth. Also make sure the hook is sharp. Let us know if this helps. Good luck!
  10. Some baits are sold with the plastic tubing over the hook points. I save these to use for this purpose.
  11. I read an article awhile back recomending a maribou jig suspended under a bobber as a great option for big smallies in the fall. Has anyone tried this?
  12. Welcome. Great place to learn and just hang out if you got a few minutes! Where is Gibsonia? I'm in Milford, Pike County. ML
  13. Welcome aboard! Check out the New Jersey and PA threads in the NE Regional forum for some good local spots! Good luck!
  14. Welcome to the forum and return to fishing! Alot of great info on small pond and bank fishing can be found here. I'm in Milford PA right at the top of the Water Gap. You might also like the PA thread in the NE regional forum. Enjoy! ML
  15. Welcome to the boards. You'll love it!
  16. It's much easier said than done, but I've learned to take alot more satisfaction from doing something about what sets me off and it rather than flippin' out. I admire heroes like Clint Eastwood's characters, that glare and sneer are very cool!!
  17. I tested some "Flying Lures" in a swimming pool and found them to glide quite a distance on a 8' drop. I caught a few smallies fishing them under docks and into the scoured spots in bridge pilings on the river. Still they're basically just a tube bait with a creative rigging. The Jackall Craw looks to be worth a try.
  18. This definitely works. Just remember to adjust leader length for casting distance to maintain the desired distance from bottom. Good luck!
  19. Congratulations on that AWESOME catch and well written story!
  20. You can also use the Roland Martin method of holding the fish out at arm's length toward the camera say it's 5lbs maybe more! lol ;D
  21. x10 Lower your expectations for your own fishing whenthe kids are with you and you'll all enjoy it alot more. Take it from one who's been there, they grow up way to fast!
  22. The rattle trap style crank baits can be thrown almost anywhere. They are surprisingly weedless for a treble hook bait. Where they really shine is over the tops of submerged weeds. Just tick the tops and give sharp snap when you feel a weed grab on. More often than not, that snap will trigger your strikes. I also like them around the rip-rap in rivers and reservoirs. Welcome to the forum, it's an awesome place.
  23. I've got some micro tube baits that work great but they were given to me and I don't know the name. They're about 1/4" long, black with white belly and pink tail. If anyone know what these are and who makes them let me know.
  24. Just to add one more option on that floating lizard, I threw one last weekend T-rigged weightless as a top-water and over the pads. It was smacked by two good ones and I missed a couple others being over zealous. But the floating C-rig is where they shine.
