Regulators push 20% down payments on mortgages
I understand, but land isn't ask expensive up here. Even waterfront is as bad as some other places I've seen. The picture below is a lakefront home. 5,000 sq. ft., 5 Bedrooms, 5 full and 2 half bath. Full log and stone construction. It's been on the market for just over one year. Original price was $1.3M now reduced to $995k. This is NOT typical for our area, as I can tell you that the homes on either side of this place are probably valued in the $300k range. Quite a few smaller waterfront homes are in the $200k range in this county.

crappie and bass recepies
Depends on the fish. We will keep a few small bass out of a private lake I fish for bluegills as the bass are overpopulated and stunted. I treat those filets the same as I do the bluegills. Take the filets and dust them with flour mixed with Lowry's seasoned salt and lemon pepper to taste. In hot frying pan (400*) with a light coating of butter, it takes about 45 seconds per/side to cook completely. Walleye and lake perch usually get an egg bath and then rolled in cracker crumbs before deep frying. Lake Trout or Steelhead. I normally only gut and gill the fish, then stuff the body cavity with lemon wedges. Wrap in aluminum foil and cooked either on the grill or in an oven. At 350* I will cook for about one hour turning every 15 minutes. For salmon, either kings or coho I only smoke or boil.

Doel-fin
Years ago, I bought a used 335 Commanche with a 130hp Yamaha that had many of the same issues. A sluggish hole shot and at times it hopping like a frog. The previous owner had installed a Doel-Fin on it which did help the hole shot, but didn't do a thing to cure porposing. It took a new prop to cure that problem. If you can find a prop shop or perhaps a mechanic from your local marina to help you out. When I did it, I had a mechanic from West Michigan Wheel go with me right to the lake along with a selection of three or four props. We tried each one out, and found he one that gave me the best performance. I gave the shop enough cash to cover the cost of the prop before hand, and paid the mechanic out of pocket for his help. I also knew that if I damaged one of those props it was coming out of my pocket. All in all, it gave me the chance to work with someone who knew a lot more about such things as I did, and the company got a sale. I thought everyone won.

Regulators push 20% down payments on mortgages
I'm still trying to grasp the idea of spending$625K for a house. Case in point is a property that sold just down the road from us. 78 acres mostly mixed hardwoods with a 22 acre lake smack in the middle of it. Two story home of approx. 2,700 sq. ft. with a walkout basement (unfinished at time of sale), 4 BR 2 1/2 bath. Had a two car attached garage and a 32x40 12' high garage/workshop as well. House is relatively new as it was built in 2001. It was located on a gently sloped hill leading down to the lake where a dock and small boat house was located. Also, the property sits at the end of a deadend road is is surrounded on two sides by a large privately held property with extremely limited access. The other two sides abut a fairly large developement. The property has numerous deer and turkey hunting opportunities as all of the surrounding properties are closed to hunting. The Price? $369k! To me, this place had everything that an outdoorsman could have wanted. I can't imagine what you would have added to it to bump up the price by another $150k.

When will cereal companies
Simple cure is to marry a woman with a Tupperware collection! They make a container that works great for cereal, even has a small pop-top to pour out of.

Angler success : 99 % location/ 1% everything else???
F + L + P = Success! A lesson learned over thirty years ago from the pages of In-Fisherman has helped countless people become more consistent at finding and catching fish. Fish + Location + Presentation = Success! I can't remember anyone saying that you can accomplish this task by ignoring one or more of these parts.

How will gas prices effect your fishing.....
Just means more trips either closer to home, or road trips where I spend a few days instead of hours. Should result in less boat traffic which isn't all that bad for me directly. Won't help some of my clients who need the tourist trade. Unless I'm mistaken, any big rise in the cost of fuel will be short lived. As soon as people start using less, the price will again go down.

Talk to me....., Just Talk To Me !
I remember the place but haven't had the chance to get over there in a couple of years. The place was amazing. 10,000 sq.feet of inventory in a 5,000 sq.foot store!!! Funnier still was the fact that the guy who owned the place could tell you where everything was. There were times that you had to knock 2" of dust off of a box, but when you openned it up, what you wanted was always inside. Tons of bass and salmon baits all over the place. He had the greatest selection of Long A Bombers I've ever seen in one place.

Any one?
As soon as some of you folks get over your righteous indignation of others doing what is lawfully allowed, you may want to consider the fact that catch and keep fishing has been going on forever. Also, this area was pounded by Katrina which pumped untold gallons of saltwater into that area. Yet we somehow witnessed a record weight being caught. So what's the problem?

Talk to me....., Just Talk To Me !
How you doin' ya old Troll. I got a cousin who lives over in Whitehall. He told me he had half a lake of open water. Our guys are still parking side by each like they were in the church parking lot. Kentucky ! wow that's a long way, do they take American money that far south. I don't have none of that Confederate stuff ya know. As far as the ground hog goes we had that at the "Lutren" church in Norway Mi. when they had the lutefisk, and lefse dinner a couple of weeks ago....,UFFDA! ;D White Lake is openning up? That means the steelhead should start moving up the river! Time for me to beat feet over to Hesperia to see if I can catch something that looks like Francho gets. I was in Cadillac this morning and they are still driving trucks out on the ice up there. Looks like it will be close if I get my boat out of mothballs before I have to haul that down south. I'm not sure what kind of money they use down there these days, but I know you can't buy booze. No wonder they lost that war! ;D So it looks like I might be making a trip to Bessemer, MI the first part of May. Do you think the snow will be melting by then?

snooze
Dang, I haven't used an alarm clock in years. It doesn't matter what time I go to sleep, I'm always awake no more than six hours later. Typically up between 3am - 4am every day of the week. Thankfully, Fox Sports Detroit has replays of most of the Red Wings games about that time. It saves me from those west coast trips where they don't drop the puck until 10:30pm.

Talk to me....., Just Talk To Me !
Hey you grizzled old cheesehead, can you see over the wood pile yet? ;D Down here under the bridge is still in the deep freeze too. I don't think that stupid groundhog got his forecast right. Why don't you fire up the snowblower and dig out your boat. This troll is going down to Kentucky in a short six weeks to meet up with a bunch of these folks, you should join in.

What end of the lake do you fish in pre-spawn?
In other words, you plan on chasing the coldest water to extend pre-spawn -vs- spawn or post-spawn? That's different. Just using the reverse logic that most people use would most likely work. Might take a little time running with your temp gauge to find colder temps, but it could be done I suppose. I would suggest keeping a good log book so you can use it for future reference.

You're Invited to the 6th Annual BassResource.com Roadtrip!!!
You pretty much said it Mike. It's even dangerous in a 21 ft. bass boat, yes even in a Ranger. : I lost a cousin 2 years ago due to high winds on the lake. If it gets over 20 mph out of the south or north. Don't get worried though. The bay that the Moor's is located in is as big as most lakes and hold plenty of fish. It is protected from high winds in most spots. Another thought is that you can always load up and drive over the dam to Barkley. The north end of Barkley runs east and west. It's where I go when the wind gets up on Ky. and I'll probably be doing a lot of fishing over there anyway. Barkley has more shallow cover than Ky. This is starting to remind me of my days of running on Lake Michigan. There were a couple of times when the only reasonable option to get back home was to hitch a ride <on dry land> back to the truck/trailer to retrieve our boat. I guess we'll have to keep an eye on the weather report each morning.

One Green Tree - Pre Spawn Bass Tactics
Good job Matt! I take it that a lot of this brush was flooded stuff? Makes me wonder if besides being green, if there were other things about that certain type of bush that attracted the better fish. This might be one of those times when having an underwater camera might have shown something interesting to add to the story.

Martens and VanDam's exchange on the final day.
It's all part of the game, and KVD isn't the only one to do it. You see it in all kinds of competitive sports. Right now, Kevin can walk the walk. I will give credit to Martens though for one of the better quotes I heard. Roughly by memory "We have started to call him Kevin VanDam Him!" If you are going to get your butt kicked, you might as well have a sense of humor about it.

It just not meant to be...
Better to goof up on a test than to do it once you've graduated! It does happen. When I sold my building a few years ago, the buyer's banker who happened to be the local VP, had a number of mistakes typed into the paperwork. Had I not insisted in seeing these papers prior to the closing, the buyer would have had to spend close to $5k more! And yes, I did enjoy pointing out those errors to the buyer.

Call Me Jinx!!!!
I guess asking if you got room is out of the question haha. Trust me the worse thing that could happen would me falling in the lake with all my gear or braking all my gear. My curse doesn't rub off on others, that make things alot worse haha. If you promise to wear a Red Wings hat I can probably handle it. Of course if you break one of my rods, you'll have to spend the rest of the day in the wife's half of the boat. BTW, my half is the top!

They grow up so fast . .
A-Jay, that's only two of the puppies. Do you want me to come up and hold the other one? Please! It's really not fair that this old woman that I'm married to only allows me to have one dog while you guys have a whole pack. What kind of crazy thinking is that? If it was up to me, I'd have at least three or four more myself. Just this morning, the local paper included a copy of American Profile magazine. The main story is about the Seavey family and their dogs. Here's to hoping that you can catch up to them!

Boat Loans?
All good advice. The only thing I would add is that you should arrainge for that loan prior to shopping for the boat. This way, you'll have the chance to know what the loan will cost you monthly, and you can shop according to how much you can borrow. Watch out for any loan that forces you to purchase credit insurance!
